Pure Magic
Darkness shrouds the stage. The atmosphere
in the venue is electric, charged with the
crowd’s nervous energy. The STANDBY
switch flips with an audible click, and those
glowing power tubes come to life. The
spotlights flood the stage as the anticipation
reaches fever pitch.
You hammer out an opening chord, and the
excitement boils over. Yet you keep your cool,
confident that you have all the tools you need
to let the creative juices flow. You know that
a simple toe-tap on the Stageboard is all it
takes to unleash a tsunami of tone. Night
after night, never settling for compromises.

The Magic of Tone
Hi, I‘m Robbie Gladwell; I am a professional musician,
guitar luthier and music journalist. I‘m still touring
with Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, have contributed
to UK Guitarist Magazine as Dr. Robert for the last 25
years, and have my own guitar and amp workshop Dr. Robert‘s Guitar Surgery.
But my background has always been in electronics
and, fortunately, making vacuum tubes, both audio
and specialist devices. Having used tube amplifiers
for many years I have become worried about the
increasing likelihood of tube failure due to the lack of
consistency and quality control during manufacture.
So I contacted my friends at Hughes & Kettner to see if
they could come up with an engineering solution. Like
me, they were frustrated by the lack of a source for
consistent high quality tubes.
We jointly decided to tackle this problem head on
by visiting the major tube manufactures and going
through their manufacturing process. We discovered
several areas that required improvement and to this
end we set up our own testing system here in Germany.
This system helps select and grade tubes to a high
specification, so that you the musician, experience the
ultimate in tube tone & technology.

All but indestructible, Attax shrugs off the hard
