Bonne course chers coureurs ! 5 2015 ATHLETES’ GUIDE 65 k | 125 k ULTRA-TRAIL HARRICANA DU CANADA Presented by Trail Running Competition Although the competition is open to all, we take it very seriously and, regardless of your fitness level, each participant will be treated as an experienced athlete. Timekeeping for all races will be ensured by the firm Sportstats. IMPORTANT A minimum set of equipment is required in order to be allowed to participate in this event. It is to be noted that such equipment consists of the bare minimum based on the capacities of each runner. Furthermore, the UTHC is a race to be completed in semi-autonomy. Semi-autonomy is defined as being autonomous between two Aid Stations. It involves a satisfactory level of food, clothing and safety so as to ensure that runners can adapt to any problem that may arise or that can be foreseen (bad weather, physical problems, injuries, etc.). Race bibs can be picked up on Friday, September 18, between 1 p.m and 9 p.m. at the Mont Grand-Fonds ski resort. Mandatory Equipment • Minimum 1 litre of water • Reserve of food •Whistle • Survival blanket (1.4m x 2m minimum) • Wind/rain top with hood for bad weather • Matches / lighter • Head lamp with extra batteries / flashlights for the 125K Optional Equipment •Gloves • Tuque (warm running hat) • Bell (bears) • Mobile phone. While there is no reliable cellular phone service on location, runners can still bring their own cellular phone for the race. Text messages may eventually get through. Weather 6 Charlevoix has a cold and wet climate in September. The weather is a very important factor not to be overlooked. You are in Canada and it is autumn. If it rains, the rain will be icy. Hypothermia is often a source of problems for many athletes (cold hands). SUNRISE: 6:27 am SUNSET: 6:49 pm AVERAGE WEATHER AVERAGE HIGH: 15°C AVERAGE LOW: 3°C 2015 ATHLETES’ GUIDE 65 k | 125 k ULTRA-TRAIL HARRICANA DU CANADA Presented by Timing and online tracking (Live coverage) Timing is done by Sportstats. Results will be live online. You can visit www.sportstats.ca where you will find the results. Sportstats Live Race Alerts on Facebook and twitter Participants and spectators can receive and follow the race with the Facebook Sportstats application. What Facebook notifications / Twitter Sportstats? From the website Sportstats (www.sportstats.ca) you can track a participant and have updates on your personal Facebook wall and / or your Tweeter wire. According to the detection points on the course. General Rules Any competitor who fails to comply with UTHC rules may get a warning, a time penalty, or be disqualified. • Make sure that your bib number is visible at all times on the front. • Always remain on the marked course. • Pacers are prohibited. • Pick up your litter and dispose of it at the Aid Stations. • Walking sticks are allowed. • Under no circumstances are earbuds, iPods, radios, mp3 players or others allowed on the course. • Sportsmanship is required from all participants. You may be disqualified in the event of unsportsmanlike conduct. • The most basic rule is that each athlete must be autonomous; i.e., he or she may not receive any kind of assistance during the race. • No animal is allowed on the trails. • There is a cut-off time to avoid being eliminated. It is a realistic and achievable time based on the last year back pack time. Runner’s Code • • • • • Semi autonomy is a requirement. Make sure that you carry adequate equipment. Both courses are in the wild. Please refer to the Mandatory and Optional Equipment lists. Provide assistance at all times to any runner in danger. Spirit of cooperation is a requirement. Smile and enjoy the scenery. Trail Markers At every 250 m, there will be a pink ribbon or a small flag showing the number of kilometers remaining. The unmarked course will be shown using orange water-based paint on the ground. 7 2015 ATHLETES’ GUIDE 65 k | 125 k ULTRA-TRAIL HARRICANA DU CANADA Presented by Shuttle One way shuttle. These consist of a paramedical and medical group specialized in pre-hospital care with state-of-the-art equipment. Most aid stations will have such equipment and paramedics will be on location. NEW: Use your mobile device to browse the interactive maps of the UTHC created on ONDAGO. Even without cellular signal you can see your location on the map because the application only uses your GPS, make sure you download the map before you move on trails. Available for: iPhone, iPod Touch using iOS 7.0 or later and on Android 4.0.3 and more Support crew and Drop Bags Once you get your bib, we will provide you a The North Face dropbag. As soon as you get out of the shuttle bus, you will leave this bag identified with your bib number and your name. A tear off section will be available on your bib to identify it. It will also be your dropbag once you get to the finish line. So we suggest that you include spare clothes and towel for a nice hot shower. For runners of 125k, this bag will be shuttle twice. The first time at the 54th kilometer to the aid station Hautes-Gorges Park. The night has been difficult and this bag will help you to adjust to day mode. Depending on your driving speed, plan headlamp or spare batteries you will have a second night. In addition, plan more or less hot running clothing. Only 125K runners can be helped by a support crew. The role of the crew is to offer comfort, equipment and food to the runner. The team is allowed only at these two refueling stations: at the Parc des Hautes-Gorges and at the Split- BMR. Access to the Hautes-Gorges Park is simple since it is a large provincial park. This station is under the authority of SEPAQ and placed behind the main chalet host. You must share space with park visitors. Access to the Split-BMR is on foot. Follow the beacons installed along the road or shuttle from the ski resort of Mont Grand-Fonds. The resort is around 6K away. Download the application ONDAGO on your cell phone to view the interactive map of locations. 10 2015 ATHLETES’ GUIDE 65 k | 125 k ULTRA-TRAIL HARRICANA DU CANADA Presented by Aid stations Marmotte - Operated by Captain Dominique Lapointe Bananas, peanuts butter, pretzels, regular chips, Coca Cola, dried dates, sports drink NUUN (electrolytes), Gnocchi, oatmeal, boiled potatoes, Cheddar cheese, pita, chicken noodle soup.
