Korea has a rich cultural history spanning back over 5000 years. At the heart of Korean culture lies its
distinct cuisine, with flavors to suit all tastes and an abundance of vitamin-rich vegetables.
A traditional Korean meal consists of a bowl of rice, a bowl of light soup [optional], a variety of tasty sauces
and condiments, and a large selection of side dishes called banchun. The most famous of the side dishes is
Kimchi, a Napa cabbage pickled in a red pepper chili sauce. Kimchi is the lifeline of Korea and is eaten at
every meal. In addition to the famous cabbage, Kimchi, there are dozens of equally delicious varieties.
In the traditional meal setting, all the dishes are brought out together and eaten together much like a
medieval banquet, with the various flavors and textures of the dishes complimenting and accentuating each
other.
So when you order a meal with your friends, share and share alike. It’s all in the spirit of the Korean meal.
