• World-wide research survey on children’s
subjective well-being
• Aim to improve children's well-being by creating
awareness among children, their parents and
their communities, but also among opinion
leaders, decision makers, professionals and the
general public
• By collecting solid and representative data on
children’s lives and daily activities, their time use,
and in particular on their own perception of their
well-being

The first wave
• The data is from surveys of children aged 8, 10 and 12
in fourteen countries.
• For 8 year olds we have over 8,400 responses from 8
countries
• For 10 year olds we have over 9,000 responses from 11
countries
• For 12 year olds we have over 16,900 responses from
11 countries
• Data has been checked and cleaned and cases with
high levels of missing data and response patterns have
been removed
• For the analysis the data for each country has been
weighted equally by gender

The current phase - main advantages
• At least 1,000 children was surveyed in each of the three age
group in every country. A total of 45,000 children
• Representative sample of a country or region
• Deep translation (language and cultural) and profound
testing of the questionnaires (focus groups and depth
interviews)
• A combined large international database
• The ability to explore a broad picture of findings that
compare the SWB of children from varied countries around
the globe
• Advanced analysis. e.g.: validating tools and new indicators,
similarities and differences in the children's lives
