Baldwin (Tom Hanks) moves to Seattle with his
son, Jonah (Ross Mallinger). When Jonah calls in
to a talk-radio program to find a new wife for his
father, Sam grudgingly gets on the line to discuss
his feelings. Annie Reed (Meg Ryan), a reporter
in Baltimore, hears Sam speak and falls for him,
even though she is engaged. Unsure where it will
lead, she writes Sam a letter asking him to meet
her at the Empire State Building on Valentine's

Bark Point Ramblers Blue Grass Band
Corpening Fitness Terrace
(Rain location, Fellowship Hall)
Since their founding five years ago, the Bark
Point Ramblers have been entertaining audiences
around the Triad with a mix of bluegrass, folk, and
old time country songs framed by informative
and humorous patter. The band features harmony
and solo vocals, and includes guitar, banjo, dobro,
mandolin, accordion and double bass. The band
performs 40-50 shows a year, and several of the
members have played together for more than 30
years–with the Home Moravian Church bluegrass
band, and Petrous Ridge (a long-lived ensemble
at Wake Forest Medical School).

in Historical Perspective

Dr. Campbell is a professor at Appalachian State
University who specializes in North Carolina history
and contemporary political history. Whether
discussing his book, Senator Sam Ervin, Last of the
Founding Fathers, or discussing civil rights in NC
or another topical NC political issue, Dr. Campbell
brings a wealth of expertise and insight.

I, Charles Rainier (Ronald Colman) has lost all
memory of his life before the war. Left to wander,
Rainier meets a showgirl, Paula (Greer Garson),
with whom he falls in love. Rainier and Paula
are soon happily married, but when Rainier
travels out of town, a car hits him -- erasing the
memories of his life with Paula, but restoring
those of his life before the war. While he returns
to his previous life, Paula tries to find a way to be

The “Reverend” Jonas Nightingale, an electrifying
performer and con artist, is traveling with his
ministry when his bus breaks down in a small
Kansas town. The part-time reverend and fulltime crook pitches a tent and invites the locals
to a revival. The sheriff, a woman named Marla
McGowan, is determined to stop Jonas from
separating the townspeople from their money,
and Jonas’ real challenge arises when he meets
the sheriff and her son. Come see what happens
when love forces an ultimate cynic to take a real
leap of faith in this gospel, honky-tonk-filled show.

New York City-based fashion photographer Dick
Avery (Fred Astaire) is struck by the beauty of
Jo Stockton (Audrey Hepburn), a shy bookstore
employee he's photographed by accident,
who he believes has the potential to become a
successful model. He gets Jo to go with him to
France, where he snaps more pictures of her
against iconic Parisian backdrops. In the process,
they fall for one another, only to find hurdles in

The Little Big String Band presents a night of
great swing music of the 20s and 30s! This
Charlotte-based band has wowed their audiences
with their performances at the WTVI PBS
Charlotte Downton Abby preview party, the Kyle
Petty & Morgan Castano rehearsal dinner, and
are always a favorite at the Curry & Company’s
High Point furniture market showroom. The
musicians include this year’s Galax bluegrass
Fiddle champion, Glen Alexander; Flutist,
Sharon Fogarty; Vocalist/Guitarist, David
McGuirt; Bassist, Scot Caviness. Enjoy their lively
performance as you’re taken back to the good ol’
days of swing. Bring your dancing shoes, or just
kick back and enjoy the performance. This is an
outdoor performance.

The Alexander Technique with Judith Saxton

Cost $50.00 for the three week class series. RSVP
by June 29. Must have six for class to make. Less
than six will increase class fee. The Alexander
Technique was developed by F. M. Alexander, a
26-year old Australian orator in the 1890’s who
lost his voice when speaking. His mind/body
technique allowed him to access his full self and
his primary coordination, and thereby restore his
voice. In this introductory series, we will learn
how to access and improve overall coordination
through normal physical activities such as
speaking, walking and rising from a chair.

Seagrove Pottery Festival Trip
Friday, July 15
Leave at 9:30 AM, Returning approx. 6:00 PM
We will visit the Museum of NC Traditional
Pottery as a group, then we'll wander Main
Street in Seagrove at our own pace visiting the
many pottery shops. We'll gather together again
and travel to the Seagrove Family Restaurant
for lunch. After lunch, as a group we'll visit two
potter's studios. On the way home, we will stop
in Candor for fresh peaches and homemade
peach ice cream. This will be an independent trip
with time allotted for self-directed activities. This
trip will require extensive walking, and getting in
and out of the bus multiple times. If you have any
questions or concerns regarding your ability to
participate in this trip, please talk with Janice. We
anticipate returning between 5:30–6:00 pm. We
will eat Dinner at Arbor Acres. Bring money for
your lunch and purchases. RSVP by July 5.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's first collaboration
remains, in many ways, their most innovative,
having set the standards and established the
rules of musical theater still being followed today.
Set in a Western Indian territory just after the
turn of the last century, the high-spirited rivalry
between the local farmers and cowboys provides
the colorful background against which Curly, a
handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm
girl, play out their love story. Cost $13.00. RSVP
