(106 minutes.) 3 Saturday, June 4 (cont.) 7:00 PM Great Courses DVD Presentation Gathering Place Monday, June 6 7:00 PM 2nd Summer Outdoor Concert Bark Point Ramblers Blue Grass Band Corpening Fitness Terrace (Rain location, Fellowship Hall) Since their founding five years ago, the Bark Point Ramblers have been entertaining audiences around the Triad with a mix of bluegrass, folk, and old time country songs framed by informative and humorous patter. The band features harmony and solo vocals, and includes guitar, banjo, dobro, mandolin, accordion and double bass. The band performs 40-50 shows a year, and several of the members have played together for more than 30 years–with the Home Moravian Church bluegrass band, and Petrous Ridge (a long-lived ensemble at Wake Forest Medical School). A veteran of World War I, Charles Rainier (Ronald Colman) has lost all memory of his life before the war. Left to wander, Rainier meets a showgirl, Paula (Greer Garson), with whom he falls in love. Rainier and Paula are soon happily married, but when Rainier travels out of town, a car hits him -- erasing the memories of his life with Paula, but restoring those of his life before the war. This Charlotte-based band has wowed their audiences with their performances at the WTVI PBS Charlotte Downton Abby preview party, the Kyle Petty & Morgan Castano rehearsal dinner, and are always a favorite at the Curry & Company’s High Point furniture market showroom. The musicians include this year’s Galax bluegrass Fiddle champion, Glen Alexander; Flutist, Sharon Fogarty; Vocalist/Guitarist, David McGuirt; Bassist, Scot Caviness. RSVP by June 29. Must have six for class to make. Less than six will increase class fee. The Alexander Technique was developed by F. M. Alexander, a 26-year old Australian orator in the 1890’s who lost his voice when speaking. His mind/body technique allowed him to access his full self and his primary coordination, and thereby restore his voice. In this introductory series, we will learn how to access and improve overall coordination through normal physical activities such as speaking, walking and rising from a chair. Seagrove Pottery Festival Trip Friday, July 15 Leave at 9:30 AM, Returning approx. 6:00 PM We will visit the Museum of NC Traditional Pottery as a group, then we'll wander Main Street in Seagrove at our own pace visiting the many pottery shops. We'll gather together again and travel to the Seagrove Family Restaurant for lunch. After lunch, as a group we'll visit two potter's studios. On the way home, we will stop in Candor for fresh peaches and homemade peach ice cream. This will be an independent trip with time allotted for self-directed activities. This trip will require extensive walking, and getting in and out of the bus multiple times. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your ability to participate in this trip, please talk with Janice. We anticipate returning between 5:30–6:00 pm. We will eat Dinner at Arbor Acres. Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the last century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story.
