Head Coach Rickey Bustle…
Louisiana head coach Rickey Bustle has guided the Cajuns for seven seasons and enters his eighth year in 2009.
Louisiana has won six games and been bowl-eligible in three of the last four seasons.
The last time that happened at UL was 1993-95, when the Cajuns won at least six
games for three consecutive seasons.
Coach Bustle won 23 games in his first five seasons with the Cajuns from 2002-06,
including 11 of the last 17 games. UL won only nine games in the five seasons prior to
Bustle’s arrival from 1997-2001.
Bustle saw his winning percentage increase each of the first four seasons since taking the
job in 2002, but regressed to .500 in 2006. His 6-6 record in 2006 was only deemed a
regression because of the high standards and raised levels of expectations by the Cajuns
and their fans. In fact, Bustle’s 12 wins from 2005-06 were the most in a two-year
period since 1994-95.
Louisiana went 4-1 at home in 2008, marking the sixth season under Bustle that the
Cajuns have been .500 or better at home. Bustle boasts a 23-19 (.548) career record at
Cajun Field. By comparison, UL was 6-19 (.240) at home from 1997-01.
In addition to raised expectations, Bustle has brought professionalism and discipline to the program. From 2002-08, the
Cajuns 525 penalties are the fewest in the Sun Belt Conference and UL boasts the fewest penalties per game over that
span.
The Cajuns went 6-5 (.546) in 2005 to mark UL’s first winning record since 1995.
Along with a winning season in 2005 came a share of the Sun Belt Conference championship thanks to five straight wins to
end the season. After starting 1-5 (0-2), Louisiana roared back into the SBC race with a come-from-behind road win at
Middle Tennessee. From there came a homecoming win over Troy in overtime and a second comeback road win, this time at
North Texas. A Senior Day victory over Florida International set-up the season finale at Louisiana-Monroe. The Cajuns
rocked the Indians 54-21, claiming the first school title since the 1994 Big West crown.
Bustle was given a two-year contract extension following the 2005 campaign, which lengthens his contract through 2010.
QUICK NOTES ABOUT COACH BUSTLE
 Coach Bustle won 23 games in his first five seasons with the Cajuns from 2002-06, including 11 of the last 17 games. UL
won only nine games in the five seasons prior to Bustle’s arrival from 1997-2001.
At the half under Coach Bustle-
At Home: Leading (17-2), Trailing (3-15), Tied (3-2)
On Road: Leading (10-4), Trailing (4-31), Tied (0-1)
 The Cajuns have won seven games when trailing at the half – 10/18/08 vs. Arkansas St. (trailed 10-7), 11/10/07 at Middle
Tennessee (trailed 21-14), 11/18/06 at FIU (trailed 7-3), 10/7/06 at Houston (trailed 21-10), 10/22/05 at MT (trailed 10-7),
9/17/05 vs. Northwestern St. (trailed 21-20) and 11/2/02 vs. Idaho (trailed 21-17). In the comeback road victories at UH &
both games at MT, the Cajuns not only trailed at the half, but at the end of the first and third quarters, as well.
 The Cajuns have lost five times when leading at the half – 10/31/09 at Florida International (led 14-10), 9/8/07 vs. Ohio
(led 20-10), 10/13/05 at Arkansas St. (led 16-7), 10/6/05 vs. FAU (led 10-7) and 10/9/04 at New Mexico St. (led 21-13).
 UL is 16-12 under coach Bustle one week after a victory. Conversely, UL is 16-31 one week after a loss. Note: The
Cajuns are 2-3 two weeks after a win and 1-2 two weeks after a loss when there is an open date (two full weeks) in between
games. (The results of season openers are not reflected)
 Coach Bustle is 1-8 in coach’s challenges, while opponents are
1-8 against the Cajuns in challenges. UL had an official’s video
review at #24 Illinois overturn a call on the field to give the Cajuns
a rushing touchdown. UL had four fumble recoveries overturned
by a video review (at Troy 2006, vs. FAU 2007, at North Texas &
at Troy 2008). Bustle won his first challenge on Oct. 13, 2007 at
Arkansas State. The ruling on the field of an Indians reception was
overturned.

2009 Ragin’ Cajuns OFFENSE
UNDREA SAILS
CHRIS MASSON
Quarterback
Running Back
• Masson has completed at least 16 passes and thrown for 150-plus yards in all
but two games this season.
• Before his season-ending injury, Undrea Sails rushed 97 times and only lost 14
yards. His average per carry was 4.5 yards and per game average was 72.0 yards.
• Masson is averaging 19 completions per game and is on pace for 228
completions which would rank as the most in a single season. His 190
completions are the most by a rookie starter since Jon Van Cleave tossed 224 in
2001 (Jerry Babb had 146 in 2004; Jake Delhomme tossed 145 in 1993).
• At the time of his injury, Sails ranked fourth in the Sun Belt Conference in
rushing yards per game (72.0) and in the Top 75 nationally.
• Chris Masson’s 283 passing yards vs. Southern rank as the 24th most in a single
game in school history. At FIU, he recorded his second-highest total with 254
yards – that was his third straight game with 200-plus yards passing.
• Masson is on target to become the first quarterback since Jerry Babb (2,345) in
2004 to pass for 2,000 yards in a season (on pace for 2,360). Masson enters the
UL Monroe game needing only 33 passing yards for 2,000.
• Louisiana rushed for at least 100 yards in the season’s first nine games. That
included three straight 100 yard efforts against teams from an automatic bid
BCS league. The 230 yards gained at WKU were a season-high.
• With Sails leaving the WKU game with an injury, Yobes Walker became the
featured back and finished with 24 rushes for 94 yards.
• In his first collegiate start, Walker carried the ball 21 times and gained a careerhigh 105 yards vs. Florida Atlantic.
• Masson’s 220 yards passing at MT marked the fifth straight game over 200
yards. During the stretch he is 110-of-174 (63.2%) for 1,116 yards and five TDs.
• Walker has rushed 89 times in Sun Belt play, the fifth-most attempts. In SBC
games he ranks seventh averaging 54.5 yards per game.
• Brad McGuire had 11 rushing attempts for 59 yards at WKU. He ran six times on
third down, converting five times. He also picked-up first downs on two other
rushes, meaning seven of his 11 rushing attempts garnered a first down.
• Marlin Miller moved to running back the week of the Arkansas State game. In
two weeks at running back he carried the ball 14 times and gained 50 yards.
• McGuire posted three rushing TD’s vs. FAU – most by any UL player this season
– and leads the team with four rushing TD’s. His first two carries of the contest
went for TD scores.
• Fullback Matt Desormeaux collected his first career touchdown catch on his
third career reception in the Cajuns game at WKU.
LADARIUS GREEN
CHRIS FISHER
Receivers & Tight Ends
• Marlin Miller led the wide receivers group with 22 catches for 246 yards
through eight games before moving to running back.
• Louis Lee leads all current wideouts with 22 catches for 285 yards (13.0 ypc).
• In his first game at running back Miller rushed 11 times and gained 33 yards. He
also led the team with eight receptions.
• Andrew Joseph posted career-highs in receptions (5) and yards (60) at ASU. He
followed up with another five reception game at MT (gained 30 yards).
• Luke Aubrey leads the team with 34 receptions. Combined with Ladarius
Green’s 20, the tight ends tandem has 54 catches through 10 games (5.4
receptions per game).
• Ladarius Green was added to the 2009 John Mackey Award midseason watch
list, released by the Nassau County Sports Commission last Monday.
• In Green’s absence (last 3 games), the wide receivers have caught 50 passes – 13
from Joseph and 10 apeice from Lee and Richie Falgout.
• Green hauled in 11 passes for 132 yards in the LSU and Nebraska games
combined. It marked the best two-game reception stretch of his career. The
six catches at LSU were a single-game best.
• Richie Falgout has four career touchdown passes. Falgout’s career passing line
is 4-of-4 for 110 yards and four touchdowns. His career passing efficiency stands
at 661.00. The oddity of the situation is that he’s yet to catch a touchdown pass.
• As a unit, the running backs have lost only 31 yards on 247 carries.
Offensive Line
• Seniors Chris Fisher and Brad Bustle are both on the 2009 Rotary Lombardi
Award preliminary watch list. Fisher is also on the Rimington Trophy Watch List
and Outland Trophy Watch List.
• Senior Kyle Pirtle, and juniors Jonathan Decoster and Ian Burks round out the
returning starters. The five would have started all 12 games together last season
if Burks hadn’t been limited by a back injury and not been a starter in week 10.
• All five returning starters lined up for the Cajuns’ first snap of the first three
games this season. The string was snapped when Chris Fisher sat out the
Nebraska game with a shoulder injury. Redshirt freshman Jaron Odom started
in his absence and Ian Burks shifted to center.
• The returning five starters have started a game together in 20 of the past 22
games – dating back to 2008. The group has combined for 162 career starts.
• The line prevented opposing defenses from recording a sack in the first three
games. Louisiana ranks 8th in the NCAA stats for fewest sacks allowed.
• The line opened the pathways for UL’s rushing attack to gain at least 100 yards
in the season’s first nine games. UL averages 143.3 rushing yards per game.
• In back-to-back games against BCS opponents (Kansas State & LSU) the o-line
did not surrender a sack.
• Behind the line’s guidance, Chris Masson has passed for 200-plus yards the last
five games and is on pace for the first 2,000-yard season since Jerry Babb in ‘04.
the 2009 ragin’ cajuns
2009 Ragin’ Cajuns DEFENSE
ANTWYNE ZANDERS
HALL DAVIS
Defensive Line
• The defensive front is wealthy with upperclassmen. Seniors Hall Davis, Chris
Lanaux and LaQuincy Williams join talented juniors Terrell Richardson, Jordan
Topp, Sharrick Moore and Jermaine Rogers.
• Leading the defensive line in tackles is Derreck Dean with 30. Topp and
Richardson follow with 20 and 18, respectively. Davis, Tyrell Gaddies and Chris
Lanaux have each registered a sack; Davis has three sacks, Lanaux two.
• Dean is tops on the line with 14 solo tackles. Rogers has nine solo stops.
• Five D-linemen have at least two TFL’s: Davis, Gaddies, Lanaux, Moore and
Richardson. Davis and Gaddies are tops with 3.5 TFL’s.
• The defensive line collected five of the Cajuns’ seven tackles-for-loss against
North Texas. Six different defensive linemen were involved. At FIU, the D-line
registered two sacks (Gaddies and Davis each posted a full sack).
• Dean and Davis each forced a fumble at FIU. Topp and Richardson each tallied
a fumble recovery. At ASU, Dean forced another fumble and Topp collected
another fumble recovery (third recovery of the season).
Linebacker
• Antwyne Zanders is 2nd in the Sun Belt and 41st in the NCAA in tackles per
game. He has registered at least six in each game. He is the leading tackler on the
team with 89 tackles (57 solo) - 15 more tackles than the next player (Fleming).
Zanders is averaging 5.7 solo tackles each game, second in the Sun Belt.
• Zanders was named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week
following the Kansas State game. He led UL in tackles for the second straight
game, posting 15 (14 solo) vs. Kansas State. Dating to last season, that was his
fourth straight game with at least nine tackles.
• Zanders tallied 10 tackles against FIU, his fourth double-digit effort of the season,
and second in as many games. In the FAU game, he posted 2.0 TFL’s to increase his
season total to 7.0, a team-high.
• Grant Fleming posted back-to-back games with double figures in tackles (NT &
WKU). He posted 12 vs. NT and 10 at WKU. He collected 10 tackles at MT. In SBC
play, he is averaging 8.8 tackles per game which ranks fourth in the league.
• Fleming has forced three fumbles - a team-high.
• As a group, the defensive line contributed 16 tackles and limited Southern’s
ground game to only 115 yards on 36 carries.
• Through eight games, the team’s top three tacklers are linebackers. Zanders
leads the way with 89 followed by Fleming (74) and Daylon McCoy (55). The trio
has accounted 140 solo tackles and 14.0 tackles-for-loss.
• The defensive line stepped up and contributed three of the Cajuns’ five tackles
for loss at LSU. Hall Davis’ TFL was the Cajuns’ first sack of the season.
• McCoy stuffed the stats sheet at FIU. He made a career-best 13 tackles which
included eight solo stops, 1.0 sack, 1.0 TFL and a fumble forced.
GERREN BLOUNT
SPENCER ORTEGO
Secondary
• Gerren Blount is in the Top 50 in the NCAA for interceptions per game, ranking
37th. Dwight Bentley and Maurice Rolle, Jr., are tied for 58th. It’s breakout
seasons for Bentley and Rolle, Jr., who each entered the season with no career
INTs.
• Blount, Bentley and Rolle, Jr., rank third in the Sun Belt in actual number of
interceptions with three apiece. Blount has the “hot hand” picking up an INT in
two of the last three games (FIU, ASU) to increase his career total to nine.
• The secondary has accounted for 11 of the Cajuns’ 13 interceptions.
• Bentley was named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week
following the North Texas game. Against the Mean Green, he recorded two INT’s
and returned one 70 yards. It was the sixth-longest return in UL’s history.
• Leading the secondary in tackles is Dwight Bentley and Orkeys Auriene.
Bentley is tops with 46 while Auriene has 35. They combine for 65 solo stops.
• Bentley and Rolle each recorded their first career interceptions in the Southern
game. Those turnovers led to back-to-back scores by the Cajuns in the second
quarter that upped the lead to 28-12 going into halftime.
• Rolle collected his second interception of the season picking off KSU’s Carson
Coffman at 2:19 to return the ball to the Cajuns. After the interception, the Cajuns
marched down the field in 12 plays, covering 73 yards for a TD and a 14-2 lead.
• Blount led the team with nine tackles at LSU and recorded an INT.
Special Teams
• Special teams are extremely important to Coach Bustle and the work has always
paid off under Bustle, as the Cajuns have blocked 41 kicks since 2002 – the third
most in the nation.
• Chris Richard (extra point) and Orkeys Auriene (field goal) blocked kicks in the
Florida Atlantic game. Auriene’s led to a defensive PAT score. The most recent
blocked kick was La’Quincy Williams blocking a field goal attempt at MT.
• Tyler Albrecht attempted his first career collegiate field goal vs. Kansas State
and was good from 48 yards lifting Louisiana to the 17-15 victory.
• Following his game-winning kick vs. KSU, Albrecht was named Sun Belt
Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
• Albrecht had a fantastic game at WKU. Kicking in temperatures in the mid40’s, he scored 12 points on a perfect 3-for-3 effort on both field goals and extra
points. He nailed a 49-yard FG and a pair of 25-yard kicks. Those efforts landed
him Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors. For the
season, Albrecht is 7-of-9 on field goal attempts. He is the only kicker in the Sun
Belt Conference to make four field goals of 40+ yards.
• Spencer Ortego has placed 12 punts inside the 20 – upping his career total to
36. He’s enjoying a personal best 41.6 yards per punt average this season.
• Ortego boomed two punts vs. Southern, netting 108 yards (54.0 avg). He placed
one inside the 20 and held SU to two yards on punt returns. For his efforts, he
was named Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

• Since 2001, the Ragin’ Cajuns have boasted 34 players
on their roster from the state of Florida.
• Currently, the Cajuns are one of the top-5 schools in the
nation outside of the state of Florida to recruit the Sunshine
State.
• The Ragin’ Cajuns currently have 20 members of the 2009
roster from the state of Florida.
• Here is a look at the schools in the Bowl Subdivision
who raid the Sunshine State for the most talent: Troy (28),
Middle Tennessee (27), Michigan (21), South Carolina (20)
Ragin’ in the NFL
The Cajuns have been a dominating “mid-major” presence in the NFL this decade and have
a proud tradition of Super Bowl champions.
Twenty-seven (27) Cajuns have appeared on an NFL roster since 2002, including 18 who
have played for Coach Bustle.
Former Cajuns have seven different Super Bowl rings. Ike Taylor, who started at
cornerback for the Steelers in Super Bowl XL and XLIII, as well as Brandon Stokley, are the two
Cajuns that each boast a pair of Super Bowl rings.
Ten different Cajuns have appeared in the Super Bowl, with Taylor and Stokley the only
players making multiple appearances, although Stokley was inactive with Indianapolis in Super Bowl
XLI – he started at wide receiver for Baltimore in Super Bowl XXXV.
In an extraordinary feat, the Cajuns have been represented in the big game in each of the
last four seasons, five of the past six and six of the last nine Super Bowls.
Only 19 schools have been represented in each of the last four Super Bowls and just one from outside the BCS. Alabama,
Arizona State, Auburn, Boston College, California, Illinois, Louisiana, Louisiana State, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina,
Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue and Texas can boast former players in Super Bowls XL, XLI, XLII
and XLIII.
The Cajuns saw Taylor start XL, Charles Tillman start for the Chicago Bears in XLI and Stokley as an inactive member of the
Indianapolis Colts. Antwain Spann played for the New England Patriots in XLII before Taylor and Arizona’s Michael Adams last
season.

Things You Need to Know
Spreading the Joy …
Fifteen different players have scored a
touchdown this season (Aubrey, Bentley,
Desormeaux, Gautier, Hill, Joseph, Lawson,
Lee, Masson, McGuire, Miller, Sails, Shankle
and Yobes Walker, Wolfe)…Just 13 players
found the Promised Land last season for the
highest scoring team in school history.
Cool Under Pressure…
The Cajuns offense has scored six times with
less than 90 seconds left in either the second or
fourth quarter…UL drove 80 yards in nine
plays, scoring a TD with 1:27 left in the second
quarter vs. Southern…Against K-State, UL
went 73 yards on 12 plays to score a TD with
0:05 left in the second quarter and then drove 37
yards on 10 plays to kick the game-winning
field goal with 0:32 remaining in the
game…Versus North Texas, UL drove 58 yards
on eight plays to score the game-winning TD
with 0:27 left in regulation…The Cajuns
traveled 84 yards on six plays to score a TD
with 1:07 left in the second quarter at FIU…At
Middle Tenn., the Cajuns quickly moved 72
yards in 1:03 (nine plays) to score a touchdown
with nine seconds left in the second quarter.
100 Tackles a Possibility …
Linebacker Antwyne Zanders has 89 tackles
through nine games, putting him on pace for
107 tackles…That would mark the highest
tackle total since safety Damon Mason had 135
tackles in 1996…Linebacker Kelcy Dotson had
112 tackles that same season for the Cajuns.
Long Drives …
The Cajuns have put together 21 drives greater
than 60 yards this season…Sixteen of those
drives resulted in a touchdown, while two others
ended in a field goal.
Veteran O-Line (part 1)…
The Cajuns are one of just 13 FBS schools
returning all five starters to their O-line…UL
joins Clemson, East Carolina, Florida State,
Georgia, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee,
Minnesota, Rutgers, San Jose State, Southern
California, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
Veteran O-Line (part 2)…
Entering the 2009 season, the Cajuns current
offensive linemen had combined for 113 career
starts…That ranked second in the NCAA,
behind only Colorado State (125)…Others are
UAB (107), East Carolina (101), FIU (101),
Notre Dame (100) and Virginia Tech (100).
Big XII Home Success…
After defeating Kansas State by a final score of
17-15, the Cajuns are now 2-2 at home vs. the
Big XII…UL beat Texas A&M 29-22 in 1996,
while losing to Oklahoma State in 1997 and
Texas Tech in 1999…The Cajuns are winless on
the road victory versus the Big XII (0-14).
Blocking the Opposition
Since Coach Bustle’s arrival, the Cajuns have blocked 41 kicks (‘02 – 7, ‘03 – 5, ‘04 – 4, ’05 – 7, ’06 – 6, ’07 – 3, ’08 – 3, ‘09 – 6). Scoring
on special team’s blocks has been special for the Cajuns, accumulating seven touchdowns, one safety and one defensive extra point. Chris Richard
blocked an extra point vs. FAU that was scooped by Dwight Bentley and returned for the second defensive PAT in school history. Richie Falgout
blocked a punt vs. North Texas and Andrew Joseph returned the ball 33 yards for a TD – the second longest blocked punt return in school history. In
2004, Michael Adams blocked a field goal vs. Arkansas State which was returned 80 yards for a touchdown by Terryl Fenton. It was the Cajuns’
third blocked field goal returned for a touchdown in the last two seasons. In 2003, the Cajuns returned two blocked field goals for touchdowns to set a
NCAA single-season record. Pat Lamy secured a Michael Adams block in the season opener at South Carolina and raced 89 yards for the score and
Antwain Spann ran for a 45-yard touchdown vs. FIU following a Derace James block. In 2002, Charles Tillman blocked a Minnesota punt out of the
end zone for a safety. Tillman later stuffed two punts at Arkansas, with the latter returned 18 yards for a touchdown by Wendall Williams.

OT FACTS
Since the NCAA adopted the overtime format in 1996, the Cajuns are 3-5 in OT games. UL fell in four
overtimes to North Alabama, 48-42, on Oct. 11, 1997, and then in one overtime the very next game versus UL
Monroe, 28-21, on Oct. 25, 1997. Playing in back-to-back overtime games was only the second occurrence in
NCAA history at that time. The Cajuns are 3-3 in the extra session since losing those two overtime games, needing
one OT to top Wofford, 37-34, on Nov. 20, 1999. The following season, Louisiana played its first road overtime
game, falling in double OT at Middle Tennessee, 41-38. Rickey Bustle’s squad avenged that road overtime loss in
Murfreesboro in 2000 with a heart-stopping 57-51 4OT win at MT on Nov. 15, 2003. Bustle won again in overtime,
this time at Cajun Field on Oct. 29, 2005, topping Troy 31-28 in single OT. Bustle’s first OT loss came on Oct. 20,
2007, falling to Florida Atlantic in the first OT, 39-32. He lost his next OT game, 20-17 at FIU on Oct. 31, 2009.
Bustle is 2-2 in overtime games.

Contacting Student-Athletes
MEDIA MEMBERS SHOULD NEVER CONTACT A STUDENT-ATHLETE DIRECTLY AT ANY TIME. That
contact rule begins the minute the S-A enrolls in school as a freshman until the time they run out of
eligibility – offseason and summers included. Contact includes, but is not limited to, in-person interviews
outside of an athletic event or practice, phone calls, text messages, e-mail and any other form of online
communication (i.e. Facebook, MySpace, etc.). Student-athletes have been instructed to immediately
terminate any contact initiated by a member of the media. Player interviews MUST be arranged through
the SID office. During the season, select Cajuns players are available to the media twice a week, typically
Tuesdays and Wednesdays. To arrange an interview before or after practice, please call or e-mail Daryl
Cetnar at least one day in advance. Players will not be available for game-day interviews until the
post-game press conference. Interviews will always be scheduled around a student-athlete’s academic
schedule.

Record Crowd Witnesses Cajuns Victory
Albrecht’s Kick Lifts UL Over K-State
Cajuns Play Tigers Tough
LAFAYETTE-After trailing 12-7 in front
of a sold-out, record crowd at Cajun Field,
Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns football team scored
a string of 35 unanswered points to comeback
and cruise to a 42-19 victory over Southern.
The attendance of 41,357 broke the
previous attendance record of 38,783 against
Texas A&M on Sept. 14, 1996.
It was the first meeting between both schools.
Louisiana quarterback Chris Masson turned in an impressive
debut in his first career start. The Miami native completed 18of-24 passes for 283 yards and tossed two touchdown passes.
It was the 24th highest passing output in school history.
Undrea Sails was the leading rusher for the Ragin’ Cajuns (10). He piled up 114 yards on 19 carries with one score.
The highlight of the evening was a 42-yard touchdown
pass by wide receiver Richie Falgout - the fourth of his career
on his fourth career attempt - which triggered the string of 35
straight points that carried the Cajuns to victory.
The Cajuns jumped out to an early 7-0 lead mid way
through the first quarter. A 1-yard touchdown run by Masson
capped off a 12-play, 81 yard drive.
The Jaguars responded with scores on their next two
touches - each time a touchdown pass from Bryant Lee to
Juamorris Stewart – for a 12-7 lead after one quarter.
Falgout’s TD toss returned the lead to UL for good at the
12:21 mark of the second quarter.
The Cajuns’ defense then recorded inteceptions on SU’s
next two touches. Sails accounted for two more Cajuns scores
before the half, giving the hosts a 28-12 edge.
The UL defense held SU off the scoreboard until 1:15
remaining when Jeremiah McGinty added 1-yard TD run.
LAFAYETTE-Tyler Albrecht made his first
collegiate field goal attempt one to remember.
The junior from Destrehan converted a 48yard field with 32 seconds remaining to lift
Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns to a 17-15 victory
over Kansas State.
Albrecht’s heroics sealed the Ragin’ Cajuns
(2-0) first win over a BCS conference school since Sept. 14,
1996 (Texas A&M).
The attendance of 16,431 set a new record for the first two
home games of the season. Combined with attendance from
the Southern game, 57,788 fans came to Cajun Field during the
first two weeks of the season. The previous record was 57,030
set in 1996 after games against Texas A&M and Houston.
Offensive miscues led to a slow start for UL. The third
mistake of the day cost the Cajuns a couple of points. After a
bad snap from the Cajuns’ 8-yard line, Chris Masson was forced
to run out the back of the end zone for a safety.
Louisiana was able to regain the lead at the 9:37 mark in the
second quarter. Undrea Sails was able to find the end zone on
a 13-yard run, capping off a 7-play, 61-yard drive.
K-State was deep in UL territory twice and both times the
Cajuns defense got a stop. With 2:14 remaining in the first half,
Masson directed a 12-play, 73 yard drive capped off by a 1-yard
TD pass to Luke Aubrey with five seconds on the clock.
The Wildcats added a pair of fourth quarter scores and by
the 8:08 mark were ahead 15-14.
The Cajuns defense forced the Wildcats into a three-andout on their next possession. That set up UL for the gamewinning drive which started with 3:50 remaining in the
contest. Masson completed an 18-yard pass to Ladarius Green
to move Louisiana closer to field goal range.
BATON ROUGE-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns
kept pace with the ninth-ranked team in the
nation in the first half, but LSU’s defense stood
tall in the second half and the Tigers pulled
away for a 31-3 victory.
After one half of play, the Cajuns were
keeping pace with the Tigers. The defense
held LSU to 150 yards while the offense gained 127 yards.
The Tigers needed only seven plays to add to their lead in
the third quarter. Jordan Jefferson found Brandon LaFell for a
20-yard touchdown pass at 10:53 and it was 24-3.
UL made it LSU’s goaline on the next possession, but was
stood up four times by the Tigers’ defense.
After that opportunity the LSU defense would not allow UL
to get any further than the LSU 25 yard line the rest of the
game and that came on the game’s final drive as time ran out.
The Cajuns nearly recorded a safety on the ensuing
possession but officials ruled that Keiland Williams’ forward
progress was stopped at the LSU 1-yard line.
The two teams started the game swapping drives that
produced no points. On the team’s third possession, UL went
three-and-out the Tigers parlayed that into a touchdown score
from Jefferson to LaFell at the 3:09 mark.
The Cajuns worked the ball to midfield, but Chris Masson
was intercepted by Chad Jones. A return to the UL 23 followed
by a personal foul set the Tigers at the UL 11. On the next play,
Trindon Holliday scampered 11 yards for a TD and a 14-0 lead.
Tyler Albrecht got the Cajuns on the scoreboard at 11:26
with a 40-yard field goal.
On the next possession, the Cajuns turned the ball over on
downs after starting the drive on their own 45-yard line. LSU
chewed up the final 6:18 of the half and added a field goal.

Cajuns Shutout at No. 25 Nebraska
Fourth Quarter Rally Gives UL Victory
Cajuns 2-0 in SBC After Win at WKU
LINCOLN, Neb.-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns
met 25th-ranked Nebraska in a game that not
only marked the Cornhuskers’ homecoming,
but 300th consecutive sell-out of Memorial
Stadium.
Nebraska used a series of big plays to take
a 34-0 lead just 24 minutes into the game and
never looked back, taking the game by a final score of 55-0.
UL did manage to rush for 100 yards against the
Cornhuskers’ defense - the fourth straight game this season
with 100-plus yards rushing.
Chris Masson completed 13-of-22 passes for 102 yards. For
the second straight outing his top target was Ladarius Green
who hauled in five receptions for 68 yards.
After a three-and-out and short 34-yard punt by the Cajuns,
NU needed only three plays and 45 seconds to increase its
lead to 10-0.
A 32-yard pass from Masson to Green pushed the Cajuns
into NU territory late in the opening quarter. UL was unable
to capitalize, as Tyler Albrecht’s 50-yard field goal attempt was
short.
Zac Lee found Chris Brooks with a four-yard touchdown
pass to pad the hosts lead to 20-0 with 12 minutes remaining
in the second quarter.
Two Cajuns turnovers then led to a pair of quick scores by
the Cornhuskers that upped the lead to 34-0 at halftime.
Louisiana was unsuccessful at moving the ball in the
second half which resulted in the shutout. Of their second half
drives (five total), four ended in a punt and one ended with a
fumble lost. On only two drives did the Cajuns get a fresh set
of downs and the longest drive of the second stanza came on
team’s final possession (10 plays, 28 yards).
LAFAYETTE-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns were
able to fight their way back from a 10-point
disadvantage - after allowing North Texas to
score 24 unanswered points - to claim a 38-34
win over the Mean Green.
Louisiana scored a pair of fourth quarter
touchdowns to stun the Mean Green. Chris
Masson completed the comeback when he connected with
Marlin Miller for a touchdown pass on third-and-goal with 27
seconds remaining.
After entering the fourth quarter down 34-24, Louisiana was
able to pull within three points at the 9:29 mark after a 17-play,
80-yard drive. A Brad McGuire was able to run a quarterback
sneak from the one-yard line for the touchdown.
After North Texas moved the ball to their own 48-yard line
on the ensuing possession, the Cajuns defense held strong
on three straight plays and forced a punt. Following the
punt, Masson completed a 20 yard pass to Louis Lee to the
NT 38-yard line which put UL on track for the eventual gamewinning tally.
After a Jeremy Knott field goal put NT up 3-0, Dwight
Bentley intercepted a fourt-and-four pass attempt by Riley
Dodge and returned it 70 yards for the Cajuns first score.
The teams traded scores and were tied at 10-all. Masson
broke the tie with a 25 yard scamper into the end zone after
NT was called for pass interference on the previous play which
negated a UL turnover on downs.
UL built a 14-point edge just minutes later after a blocked
punt by Richie Falgout was scooped up by Andrew Joseph
and returned 33 yards for a score that made it 24-10.
A pair of rushing touchdowns by Lance Dunbar on NT’s
next two touches forged a 24-all tie heading into halftime.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Louisiana’s Ragin’
Cajuns posted a 30-22 victory over Western
Kentucky on Saturday evening at chilly L.T.
Smith Stadium. Temperature at kickoff was
48 degrees.
The Cajuns’ defense used two interceptions
and a fumble recovery to generate excellent
field position for the offense. Through three quarters, the
Cajuns average starting position was their 35-yard line. That
helped the Cajuns generate enough points to hold off WKU.
Quarterbacks Masson and Brad McGuire provided an
excellent compliment to each other for the second straight
week. Masson finished the game 16-of-25 for 204 yards.
He threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another.
McGuire did not attempt a pass, but ran 11 times for 59 yards,
including six that converted on third down.
The Cajuns finished 12-of-19 on third down, while holding
WKU to 2-of-8.
After WKU struck first scoring on a 29-yard touchdown pass
from Kawaun Jakes to Rod Johnson, it was all Cajuns after that.
Louisiana answered, marching 72 yards in 11 plays, scoring
on a two-yard touchdown pass from Chris Masson to Matt
Desormeaux.
On the team’s next possession, Tyler Albrecht nailed a 49yard field goal to give the Cajuns a 10-7 lead with 2:07 left in
the first quarter. An interception by Maurice Rolle, Jr. put the
offense back on the field at the Cajuns 43-yard line. Six plays
later, Masson found Javone Lawson with a 19-yard touchdown
pass to increase the Cajuns lead to 17-7.
The Cajuns were dealt a crushing blow to their offense in
the second quarter, as running back Undrea Sails injured his
leg and ankle and was carted off the field.

Owls Spoil Cajuns’ Homecoming Game
FIU Steals Victory From Cajuns in Overtime
Cajuns “D” Big in Win at Arkansas State
LAFAYETTE-Brad McGuire rushed for three
scores, but the effort came up short as Florida
Atlantic spoiled the 64th annual Homecoming
contest with a 51-29 win.
The loss was the first for Louisiana in Sun
Belt Conference play and first at home.
McGuire’s three rushing TDs were an
individual game-high for UL and increased his season total to
four. He finished the game with seven carries and 33 yards.
On the game’s opening drive, FAU’s Rusty Smith connected
with Chris Bonner on a 70-yard touchdown pass.
Just over one minute later, the Cajuns evened the score
following a FAU muffed punt return. Chris Masson hit Marlin
Miller on an underneath route for a 13-yard score at 12:03.
The teams traded scores before the first quarter expired the
score was even at 14-all.
UL seemed to have caught a break when Chris Richard
blocked an FAU extra point attempt and Dwight Bentley
reutrned in for a defensive PAT. However, the Cajuns were
forced to punt the ball away.
Smith and the Owls were able to light up the scoreboard
again on the following drive and upped the lead to 27-16 with
6:51 left in the first quarter.
The Cajuns came out in the second half and hit the ground
running. Yobes Walker carried the ball nine consecutive times
rushing for 52 yards. McGuire capped off the drive with a 10
yard plunge that dropped the deficit to 27-22.
The Owls had an answer for each UL score, though, and
Smith’s 64-yard touchdown pass to Bonner put the Owls up
41-29 with 2:57 left to play in the third quarter.
FAU put the game out of reach after driving 17 plays, using
up 9:36 of game clock after taking over with 14:50 remaining.
MIAMI-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns wasted
too many chances on Saturday afternoon,
falling 20-17 in overtime at FIU stadium.
The two teams were locked in a defensive
battle most of the game until the final
minutes.
The Cajuns marched down into the FIU red
zone with less than three minutes to play and faced a firstand-goal at the FIU six-yard line. The Cajuns could only get to
the two-yard line and settled for a 20-yard field goal by Tyler
Albrecht.
FIU then moved 69 yards in 13 plays, scoring on a threeyard fourth-and-goal pass from Paul McCall to Greg Ellingson
with 10 seconds showing on the clock.
In overtime, FIU scored first on a 24-yard field goal by
Dustin Rivest. The Cajuns attempt to answer in their portion
of overtime was blocked.
Terrell Richardson recovered a fumble on the second FIU
snap to give the Cajuns the ball on the FIU 30-yard line. Three
plays later, Yobes Walker rumbled into the end zone from oneyard away, scoring his first career touchdown.
FIU tied the game late in the first quarter thanks to a 12play, 80-yard drive.
The Cajuns mounted only 25 yards of offense in the second
quarter until a long drive gave UL the late lead. Masson
directed the team 84 yards in six plays, taking only 1:13 off the
clock. Masson connected on long passes of 18 yards to Marlin
Miller and 20 yards to Falgout. The Cajuns led 14-7 following a
40-yard pass from Masson to Louis Lee.
In prevent mode, the Cajuns’ defense watched the Panthers
go 60 yards in 10 plays, kicking a 26-yard field goal to close the
gap to 14-10 at the break.
JONESBORO,Ark.-Louisiana’s
Ragin’
Cajuns did something that no Cajuns team
had done since 1997 - win in Jonesboro. The
Cajuns built a 21-3 lead and then held on for
a 21-18 victory.
With ASU trailing by just three points and
nearing scoring position at the Cajuns 39-yard
line, Lance Kelley made a remarkable interception along the
sidelines to stop the Red Wolves in their tracks.
Yobes Walker gained five yards on each of his first three
carries to help the Cajuns run out the clock and secure
victory.
Kelley’s interception put an end to a fourth-quarter rally by
ASU which saw backup quarterback Ryan Aplin lead the Red
Wolves to two touchdown scores.
Despite allowing two late scores, the Cajuns defense was
magnificent. The Cajuns collected three turnovers thanks to
a pair of interceptions and a fumble recovery against the Red
Wolves. ASU was 0-for-10 on third down.
The Cajuns were handed excellent field position after an
opening three-and-out by the Red Wolves. UL marched 56
yards in 11 plays, scoring on a one-yard quarterback sneak by
Blaine Gautier.
Chris Masson’s fourth rushing score of the season gave the
Cajuns a 14-0 lead with 3:07 left in the first half. The hosts cut
the Cajuns lead to 14-3 thanks to a 36-yard field goal by Josh
Arauco.
UL racked-up 204 yards of offense, while holding ASU to
just 61 total yards in the game’s first 30 minutes.
In the third quarter, Masson scored his second rushing
touchdown of the game on fourth-and-goal from the twoyard line, giving the Cajuns a 21-3 lead.

MT Overtakes Louisiana in Second Half
MURFREESBORO, Tenn.-Louisiana had
a 17-14 halftime lead, but couldn’t hold off
Middle Tennessee, falling 34-17.
The hosts regained the lead with the
opening possession of the second half and
never looked back.
Starting from their 40-yard line, Dwight
Dasher ripped off a 46-yard rush to the Cajuns 14-yard line.
After a false start penalty, Dasher connected with Garrett
Andrews on a 19-yard touchdown for a 21-17 lead.
After allowing only four sacks all season, the Cajuns fell
victim to five sacks by the Blue Raiders.
Chris Masson finished 25-of-43 for 220 yards and one
touchdown, but the Cajuns couldn’t get the ground game
going, finishing with only 73 yards on 32 carries.
Dasher was 16-of-25 passing for 219 yards. D.D. Kyles had
177 yards rushing as MT rolled to 506 yards of total offense
- 335 in the second half.
The Cajuns took the opening kickoff and drove 79 yards in
14 plays to grab an early 7-0 lead.
Six plays into MT’s first possession, Dasher hit Patrick
Honeycutt with a 17-yard touchdown pass to tie the game.
UL took a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter on a 24-yard
field goal by Tyler Albrecht.
After the Cajuns blocked a field goal attempt by MT, Jamari
Lattimore stepped in front of Masson’s next pass attempt and
returned the ball 20 yards for a touchdown and a 14-10 lead.
The Cajuns re-took the lead with nine seconds remaining
in the second quarter on a seven-yard pass from Masson to
Vernon Wolfe. The score capped a nine-play, 72-yard drive that
lasted just 1:03. The score marked the sixth time UL scored in
the final 90 seconds of a half this season.
