TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF AUCTION
1 The sale is an unreserved auction of birds listed in the catalogue.
2 The Auctioneer reserves the right to accept or refuse any bird or birds without having to state any reason or rea sons thereof.
3 Western Suburbs Budgerigar Society Inc. act as an agent only in respect of the goods to be auctioned and is not responsible for
any faults or defects in any lot.
4 All statements in the catalogue or attached to the show cage as to origin, genuineness, provenance or condition of any lot
should not be relied upon as statement or fact. Intending purchasers must satisfy themselves as to the sex, colour, variety, origin,
age, genuineness and condition of any lot in which they may be interested.
5 The birds on display must not be interfered with or subjected to judging sticks, pens or other similar objects.
Note NO SMOKING applies to the use of the Auction Hall.
6 Carry cages will not be allowed into the main body of the Auction Hall until the conclusion of the auction.
7 Each person attending the auction will be required to register as they enter the Auction Hall. Any person who chooses not to
comply with any or all of the auction conditions will be respectfully denied entry to the Auction Hall. Exception will be made for a
wife, children, etc. accompanying a registered bidder. The registration form will require your name, postal address, phone number,
club name and signature.
8 Each registered person will then be given a bidders number. As a successful purchaser of any lot you are required to show this
bidders number to the auctioneers clerk to prepare your receipt for payment. Your bidders number is to be returned at completion of
the sale.
9 Each lot will be sold to the highest bidder. Any person unfamiliar with auction practice should ensure that the auctioneer
correctly acknowledges their bids. It is suggested that bids be called out, or that a certain bid is called for, that the intending
purchaser raise his/her bidders number in the air to attract the auctioneers attention for this bid.
10 After the fall of the hammer no party will be allowed to retract his or her bid, and subject to the vendor having the right to bid,
the highest bidder shall be the purchaser. In the event of any dispute arising, the lot in dispute shall be put up again and the
Auctioneers decision shall be final.
11 On the fall of the hammer, each lot shall be at the Purchasers risk of expense. The sale shall be paid for on conclusion of the
day’s sale. Until payment in full of the purchase money is made the property in the lot shall not pass to the Purchaser.
12 To prevent inaccuracy in delivery, no lot can be removed during time of sale, unless with the specific agreement of the Vendor.
All lots must be removed at the completion of the sale or as specified at the time of the sale.
13 Payment for goods on the day shall be by bank letter of credit, cash or money order, unless prior arrangements have been
made. If any successful bidder shall fail to pay for their purchases on the day, the vendor or his agent have the right to resell the lot
in any manner they think proper.
14 At the end of the Auction each successful purchaser of lots will be required to take their purchases with them. They shall
proceed to the payment table where they shall pay the purchase price and be given a receipt. This receipt will be required for the
collection of the birds purchased.
15 Proof of payment will be a receipt from the auctioneer's clerk. Purchasers are required to take a carry box or cage and receipt to
the collection point, on production of the receipt the collection clerk will gather the show cages containing each of the lots you have
purchased.
16 Neither the Vendor, the Auctioneer nor any of the assistants will be touchi ng the birds once they are sold - it will be the
responsibility of each Purchaser to handle their own on collection and transfer them to your their cage.
17 THE SHOW CAGES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE PURCHASE PRICE AND ARE NOT FOR SALE.
18 Any bird passed in will be returned to owner.
19 The vendor will not be paid out on the day of the sale. Payment will be by club cheque as soon as possible after the sale, but
not later than 14 days thereafter. Payment to the vendor will be less a commission of 10%, as agreed with Western Suburbs
Budgerigar Society Inc. Interstate vendors will bear all costs of transportation of birds and any other miscellaneous costs, as
advised in advance by WSBS. WSBS will provide transportation to pick-up birds from airports and any food /housing cost to
shelter birds by WSBS members, prior to auction. If vendor elects to have someone else (other than WSBS designated member)
care and transport birds to auction venue, it shall be at vendor’s expense.
Bidders unable to attend – No problems!
Prior agreement:
We can have you set a limit on any lots of interest prior to the auction and we will have somebody bid on your behalf of you to that
limit. Of course if the bird sells for an amount under your limit you only pay the lesser amount.
Alternatively we can set up phone bidding for you on the day of the auction. You then have the ability to listen in on any lots you may
be interested in and bid via the telephone.
Funds would have to be placed in our bank account prior to the auction. Air Freight costs of purchases would also be included in
those funds if required.
For all further details please contact our Club Secretary Mick Avery on 0414528643 or Owen Haddick 0418 146 688.
2011 AUCTION BREEDER PROFILES:
MARK & REBECCA FELLOWS are a husband & wife team whom have returned to breeding budgerigars in 2003 after
completely selling out in 2001.A relatively new stud of birds based predominately on Gazzard bloodline. Although reluctant
exhibitors, some of the more notable results are, three Grand Champion awards all with different birds. Five NSW State
representatives & one National win. A stud which takes pride in the overall health and well being of its stock while also keeping
in sight its aim to breed the modern day bird.
GARY GAZZARD
has been breeding budgerigars for 27 years. He imported birds in the early nineties from P&C Pilkington
and Eric Lane along with a Binks bird obtained later and they are the foundation of his current stud. Gary is an inductee of the
ANBC Hall of Fame and a Nationally accredited judge. Gary has been successful on the show bench with 9 National Logies and
numerous state representatives, has won the Newcastle Annual show 5 years in a row. The main varieties he breeds are
normal's ,dark factors , spangles , cinnamons and opaline cinnamons of which all have been successful on the show bench.
JIM & JUDY FLETCHER the Budgerigar has been very much a part of our lives as Judy and I have been breeding and
showing Budgerigars for 42 years and both had them as a hobby in our early teenage years. We have followed the National
Shows around Australia each year since 1988 and only missed one show due to my illness in 2006.
I passed the inaugural ANBC ’ s judging examination in 1990 and was the Judges Committee Coordinator for quite a number of
years. I have previously had National judging appointments in 1992, 1996, 2004 and 2011. We breed approximately 200 young
birds a year with our main line stemming from Garry Gazzard with Stephen Mow and Alan Rowe lines linked.
After the completion of each breeding season we carry a stud of approximately 350 birds. In the last two showing seasons in
Tasmania we have won 6 out of 8 Champion Young Bird Awards and 7 out of 8 Champion Bird of Show awards with a team of
birds from our stud. Our most memorable award would be the National Show at Rockhampton 2010, when our Normal Light
Green Cock won the normal green class and the accolades we received for the quality of this bird. He and his siblings have
now become the key bloodline in our current line of birds.
The varieties we breed are: Normal's, Cinnamons, Spangles, Yellow Face ( English & Aust. ) Dominant Pied and Lacewings.
Judy and I are very proud of what we have achieved with our birds over many years as the quality of the bird is very much consistent throughout the stud.
HENRY GEORGE (South Queensland) has been Australia ’ s
most successful breeder at National level
since 1990, having won 21 firsts, 22 seconds, and 19 thirds, along with countless minor placings. In total Henry
now has won 28 firsts. In the last sixteen years, excluding the four years he judged the Nationals. Henry has had
over 174 birds benched in the South Queensland team. In 2004 Henry was the first breeder admitted to the
ANBC Hall of Fame. His success has been obtained with Normal Greens, Grey Greens, Greys and Blues,
Dominant Pied, Yellowfaced Blues, Opalines, Red Eyes, Cinnamons, Spangles, Clearwings, Recessive Pied and in the Hens
class. The stud is based on Mannes but also contains many English bloodlines including Sadler, Moffat, Binks,
Pilkington, Snell, Sherman, Topliss, Watts, Wheeler, Norris, Wheatley and Cox. These lines have been blended
together over many years to form the super stud it is today.
ALLAN REID has a stud based on the finest English and German bloodlines. In thirty years of exhibition Allan has taken
many top awards with a range of varieties including a number of Grand Champions. The most notable of these was his win at
the 1995 BSNSW Annual Show. Whilst Allan no longer attends shows as frequently as he once did he still maintains a stud of
budgerigars of exceptional quality with occasional outcrosses of super birds from the aviaries of Gary Gazzard, Bob Smith,
Clint Ault, Mark Fellows, Cec Gearing and P. Dodd, Ray Welshman and Sheppard & Flanagan.
2011 AUCTION - BREEDER PROFILES
SHEPPARD & FLANAGAN this partnership was formed in 1990 and has proven to be one of Australia ’ s
most
prominent breeding partnerships having gained notoriety in ANBC Hall of fame with 15 National wins to their credit. They
are breeders of many variety birds.
PETER THURN is the Secretary of the Melton Club and breeds Normals, Cinnamons, Dominant Pieds, Albinos,
Spangles, Fallows and Clearbodies. His stud is founded predominantly on bloodlines from Champion Melton breeder,
John Flanagan with infusions of Rowe, Bridgeman, Hunter, Baxter and Howes ( c learbody ) bloodlines. Peter was elevated to Champion exhibitor status in 2009. Peter has won Numerous Shield classes and 2 Diplomas. At National level,
Peter has won 4 classes – Albino ( 2008 ) , Clearbody, Dominant Pied and Fallow ( 2009 ) as well as a 2nd placing
( D om Pied ) , and a 3rd and 5th placing in the Fallow class.
JEFF LLOYD & SONS (Western Australia)
have bred exhibition budgerigars since 1977. Jeff qualified as a
National Judge in 1991 and has since judged three National Championship Shows. Varieties bred include, Normal Green,
Violet, Dominant Pied, Clearbody, Greywing, Yellowface and Lutino. Success at Nationals include three 1st places, ten
2nd places, a third and a fourth. At the 2009 National Show, 6 birds represented Western Australia, gaining 2nd places in
Greywing and Clearbody, a fourth in Normal Grey as well as being represented in Dominant Pieds.
At the 2010 National Show in Rockhampton gained 2nd place in Normal Grey and 9th place in Clearbody. Specialising in
Violets, Dominent Pieds, Lutino ’ s , Clearbodies & Yellowfaces.
VIC MURRAY & DAVID SPINK MS6
Vic & David have been breeding & showing in partnership for about 12
years in the Open section with elevation to Champion this year. Prior to forming the partnership both breeders had been
involved for many years as individuals from Juniors back in the 60 ’ s through to Open, with the usual time out for work &
family commitments. The stud is slightly different to many other partnerships, as there is one bird room and flights where
the hobby is shared. The varieties covered include most of the normal ’ s plus, Lutino, Double Factor Spangle,
Clearwing & Blackeye. The stud is made up of several leading bloodlines, with an emphasis diversifying families to keep
fertility levels up. The aim is to strive to get depth of quality across all varieties and be able to compete regularly at
National level.
GEOFF TONKIN
Geelong Budgie Club member and Champion breeder, Geoff Tonkin has a large and prolific stud of birds. Normal,
Spangles, Dominant Pieds, Greywings and Ino ’ s are the main varieties bred. Tonkin birds are consistent performers on
the show bench both at Diploma and Shield level. In 2008 Geoff won the Melton Diploma with an
outstanding Yellow Face Grey, which went on to win the Young Bird Shield and National Yellowface class. One of
the fancy ’ s quiet achievers, Geoff ’ s birds regularly attracts high prices at his club ’ s auction. The quality of Geoff
Tonkin ’ s birds at the Melton Blue Ribbon Auction will speak for themselves.
PETER TIRANT Peter Tirant is a Champion breeder and Melton Club member. His stud is founded on David
Bishop ’ s birds. In fact the Bishop bred winners of the Opaline and Lutino classes at the 1999 Nationals were the
foundation birds of the Tirant stud. Specialising in Opalines, Inos, Cinnamons, Spangles and Normal's, Peter’ s birds are
renowned for their showmanship and feather quality. Peter ’ breakthrough National win came in 2008 with a win in the
Lutino class – a variety for which he is well known for.
