Service Instructions TAT SI08-04 Issued: Model SR22 w/ Turbonormalizer COMPLIANCE RECOMMENDED: Tornado Alley Turbo considers these Service Instructions to be RECOMMENDED. It is recommended that these instructions are accomplished during the next scheduled Continued Airworthiness inspection. This is a reoccurring service that should be accomplished at the predetermined time intervals recommended by Tornado Alley Turbo Inc. EFFECTIVITY All Cirrus Design SR22 equipped with a Tornado Alley Turbo Inc. Turbonormalizing System. APPROVAL Engine Technologies, Inc., the Turbonormalizing System STC holder, has approved all technical data in these Service Instructions that affect the type design. PURPOSE The purpose of these Service Instructions is to inform SR22 owners and operators of the Tornado Alley Turbo inc. approved procedure for inspecting and testing the Cirrus SR22 Cabin Heat Augmenter/Tailpipe assembly for signs of cracking. The objective of this inspection and test is to ensure that there is no possibility of introducing exhaust into the cabin of the aircraft by way of the heating system. This test is a part of the Continued Airworthiness inspection. This test is an approved alternative to the current method of Tailpipe Borescope Inspection, and fulfills the FAR Part 23.1125 requirement for inspection of the Cabin Heat Augmenter/Tailpipe assembly for induction leaks. DESCRIPTION These Service Instructions contain procedures to gain access, inspect, and test the Cabin Heat Augmenter/Tailpipe assembly for induction leaks. WARRANTY INFORMATION Due to the fact that this test is required as part of the Continued Airworthiness inspection, the test and test kit are not covered under warranty. If, however, a leak is detected, contact Tornado Alley Turbo Inc. for specific warranty considerations. MANPOWER REQUIREMENTS Gain access, Removal of scat tubing, Inspection, Pressure Test, and Replacement of scat tubing: 1 man hour. WEIGHT AND BALANCE Weight change: None. MATERIAL INFORMATION Left and Right Tailpipe with Cabin Heat Augmenter Tailpipe Test Kit ALL ETI-SR22-115-1 (NOT PROVIDED) 1 ea 1 ea The Tailpipe Test Kit P/N ETI-SR22-115-1 can be ordered from Tornado Alley Turbo Inc., for $195.99 Tornado Alley Turbo, Inc. 300 Airport Road Ada, Ok 74820 PH (580)332-3510 TAT SI08-04 Page 1 of 7 The test kit consists of a Regulator/Gauge assembly, 1 pair of 1” adapter couplings, and 1 pair of 1¼” adapter couplings. Use the appropriate size adapter couplings for your tailpipe. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS 1. Gain access by removing both upper and lower cowls. 2. Locate the tailpipes and identify the heat exchanger on each. 3. Remove scat tubing from both inlet and outlet tube of the heat exchanger. Attach the Regulator/Gauge assembly to the adapter coupling. Ensure that the valve is closed (handle perpendicular with assembly), and the regulator is fully closed (knob turned completely to left). Tornado Alley Turbo, Inc. 300 Airport Road Ada, Ok 74820 PH (580)332-3510 TAT SI08-04 Page 3 of 7 6. Attach assembly to air supply. Open valve (handle parallel with assembly) and open the regulator by slowly turning knob to right. 7. Adjust regulator to read 16PSI (±1 PSI) Tornado Alley Turbo, Inc. 300 Airport Road Ada, Ok 74820 PH (580)332-3510 TAT SI08-04 Page 4 of 7 8. When the gauge reads 16 PSI (±1 PSI) fully close the valve (handle perpendicular with assembly) and detach air supply from the Regulator/Gauge assembly. 9. Watch the pressure gauge to see if there is any drop in pressure for a minimum of 3 minutes. Tornado Alley Turbo, Inc. 300 Airport Road Ada, Ok 74820 PH (580)332-3510 TAT SI08-04 Page 5 of 7 10. If after 3 minutes, the pressure gauge still reads 16 PSI (±1 PSI), then the heat exchanger has successfully passed the test and the three testing components can be removed from the tailpipe and the scat tubing can be replaced. 11. If the pressure drops to less than 15 PSI over the 3 minute time frame, then it is critical to locate the source of the leak. To determine the source, it is necessary to spray the entire system down with soapy water and look for bubbles indicating an air leak. Pay particular attention to the adapter couplings as they may not have been tightened enough during initial assembly. 12. If any leak is detected on the portion of tailpipe behind the heat exchanger, it is possible for engine exhaust to enter the cabin through the heating system. This is a potentially dangerous and unacceptable situation and the tailpipe will need to be repaired or replaced. Note the location of the leak and call the Cirrus Service Center for warranty replacement.
