August 2nd Beach Regulations So that our beaches can be maintained safely for all to enjoy, several rules have been established. 1 Beaches are guarded daily from 11:30am – 5:30pm until August 19, 2012. 2 Dogs are not allowed on any beach. 3Alcoholic beverages and smoking is not permitted by law at any beach area. 4Boats are not permitted in designated swim areas. 5 Certain floatation items are allowed with the permission of the lifeguards. 6PFD’s are available for loan with a $10 refundable deposit at the lifeguard office. Please bring your child(ren) to the beach and remain with them. Keep them “within arms reach” as all swimmers swim at their own risk. B arrie is an amazing place to be in the summer, especially on Kempenfest weekend – what has become known as Barrie’s annual homecoming weekend. In fact, it is one of the largest outdoor arts and crafts festivals featuring over 350 artisans, antique show, food, midway, children’s activities, and an amazing live entertainment line-up that attracts over 200,000 in attendance and all of the economic spin-offs for the community. universal language of music carry you away. Daytime programming is free, while evenings have a $5 charge at the gate. It began 41 years ago with local charities and service clubs joining forces to raise funds. Today, the festival has blossomed into one of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals year after year, raising over $250,000 for various community projects. Kempenfest is also the venue for the annual Kempenfest Bay Swim – a 2000 metre challenge taking place Saturday, August 4th at 9:00am starting from Centennial Beach. Anyone can participate for a fee of $10.00 and medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each age class. Optimist Antique Show Be Green! One of the biggest attractions, the antique show includes over 40 Ontario exhibitors with authentic collector items such as jewelry, furniture, toys, and so much more. All proceeds go towards supporting local youth. Get your workout in while on your way to Kempenfest! This year there will be a free Bike Corral at Kempenfest made available thanks to a Celebrate Ontario grant. Put your bike in the secured area and relax knowing it’s safe and sound while you shop. The service pilot operates on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays until September 3, 2012. For each day of service, six trips will bring passengers to Union Station in Toronto, two will originate at Allandale Waterfront GO Station making all stops, and four will originate at East Gwillimbury GO Station also making all stops. The six northbound trips will depart Union Station with two trips making all stops to Allandale Waterfront and four trips making all stops to East Gwillimbury. GO Buses will meet the East Gwillimbury trains and make all stops to and from the Barrie Bus Terminal.
