created - and it’s still going strong 80 years later.

All persons who enter the grounds and use the facilities on said grounds for the
purpose of exhibiting, displaying, competing, seeing the exhibits and being entertained by the attractions of the Fair, on in any other manner participating in the
Fair, do so at their own risk.
The Ox Hill Community Agricultural Fair Association will not intentionally
show or permit to be shown any dangerous attractions on the grounds. However,
the showing of certain attractions requires that spectators be reasonably watchful
of the conduct of their children, and although the Fair will take every precaution,
it will not be responsible for any personal injury or property damage suffered by
reason of any attraction shown or exhibited during any time.
ENTRY INFORMATION
1. Entry deadline is August 12, of the current fair year. Any entry postmarked
later than August 12, will not be accepted. All entries will be made according to classification.
2. An entry fee of 10% of the first place premium for each entry is required for
all exhibitors, except Department 10, 4-H or Vocational.
3. ALL Entry fees must accompany the entry list at time of entry. Entries
received without entry fees will not be accepted. Please make checks
payable to: Ox Hill Fair or O.H.C.A.F.
4. It shall be the responsibility of the exhibitor to properly name the article or
breed of livestock that is entered. Entry tags must be attached securely to the
article or stall.
5. Entry Tags can be mailed to you by enclosing a self-addressed stamped
envelope with your entry list. You may also pick your tags up in the Exhibit
building on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 at 10:00am.

Exhibitors must deliver their articles or stock to the designated areas and
inform the Superintendents of their arrival. The Superintendents of each
department will assign the entries to their respective areas and have full
control over them during the time they are on the grounds. Each exhibitor
hereby acknowledges and undertakes to observe the Rules of the
Association.

2. Reasonable care will be taken to protect all exhibits on display from all injury and damage, however, the Fair Association shall not be responsible for
any accident which may occur to any animal or article exhibited at the show.
The exhibitor shall hold it blameless and indemnify it against any legal proceedings arising from any such accident.
3. All exhibits are required to remain on the fairgrounds until the completion of
the fair. All exhibits must be picked up on Sunday, September 11th between
the hours of 10:00am - 12:00pm. If this is not possible, please inform the
fair office by calling 724-397-2661 or contact a fair officer prior to Sunday.
4. Names are not permitted on exhibits until after judging and judges shall not
look for exhibitors names or numbers before awarding prizes.
JUDGING
1. During judging, no one but the judges, State Fair fund Officials, Superintendents or such officials as judges may deem necessary, will be permitted in
the judging area. Anyone in violation of this rule will forfeit all premiums.
2. During judging, no one but the Judge, State Officials or Superintendents may
be in the judging area. No one shall communicate with the judge while
awards are being made, except the above mentioned to answer questions
proposed by the Judge. Any exhibitor interfering with the judging process
will forfeit any premium to which they would otherwise be entitled.
3. Premiums for First, Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth place will be awarded in
each class where articles are worthy of a prize. Where there are fewer entries
in any class than the number of premiums offered, the judges may, at their
discretion award a prize or prizes of such grade as the entry deserves. The
Fair Association reserves the right to withhold premiums awarded in any
case in which it shall appear that the regulations have not been complied with
or that fraud or deception have been practiced or attempted.
4. Any exhibitor who shall tear off a premium card will forfeit the premium and
be excluded from competition. No article or animal shall be entitled to more
that one premium.
5. The decision of the Judges shall be final in all cases, except where mistakes,
fraud or misrepresentation not discovered at the time of the award is proven.
6. Any disputes that arises in regard to register, etc., shall be settled by the
Board of Directors.

7. Purity of blood as established by pedigree, symmetry, size, early maturity
and general characteristics of the several breeds or animals are to be considered by the judges in making their awards.
SAFETY
1. The Chief Marshal, under the direction of the Directors, will have command
of all police personal on the grounds and see that order is preserved through
out societies jurisdiction. Policemen will be sworn in as conservators of the
peace, acting under the orders of the Chief Marshal. It shall be their duty to
arrest anyone creating disorder or violating any of the “Rules of the Association”.

2. Any person entering the grounds under the influence of drugs, alcohol or
with intoxicating liquors and or drugs in their possession forfeits their rights
to the fairgrounds for the remainder of the fair.
3. The Fair Association reserves the right to search any person or vehicle that is
expected of concealing weapons, drugs or alcohol. All illegal articles found
become property of the Fair Association. In cases where weapons have been
found, the rightful owner can claim what is rightfully theirs at the Fair
Office after hours.
4. There is zero tolerance for betting, pool selling, peddling and immoral conduct. Including intoxication, alcohol, drugs and weapons. Anyone found of
such conduct and convicted shall be subject to a fine of not less than $25.00
or more than $100.00 and will be removed from the grounds.
5. No person shall remain on the grounds after hours except by permit from the
Directors.
6. No pets permitted on the fairgrounds, except for service animals.

7. Only one camper permitted for each family exhibiting in the barn area.
8. The Fair Parking Superintendents reserve the right to command a safe parking area. Those demonstrating unsafe driving or behavior will be removed
from the fairgrounds.
9. Any persons seeing violations are encouraged to inform any Police or Fair
personnel immediately.
SUPERINTENDENTS
1. The Superintendent of each department will be furnished by the Secretary
with a book in which all entries of their department are recorded. Superintendents shall show or point out to the Judge all articles or animals in their
respective departments for premiums. The Judge shall enter all awards in the
department book. The Superintendents shall return the entry book to the
Secretary as soon as the Judges and Superintendents have completed the
judging and signed off on the book.
2. Cards will be furnished by the Secretary which contain the entry number and
class, which must be attached to or above the article or animal entered.
Superintendents are to see that the cards have been attached to all articles and
animals when placed. All entries will be made in strict compliance with the
offered premium list and awards made in accordance. Entries will not be
changed from one class to another after entry is made. If there is any question as to the regularity of the entry to compete in any given class, the Judge
shall determine the same and rule out any article or animal that is not properly entered.

3. Superintendents and their family members may enter in any department but
can not act as a judge. No person shall be allowed to act as a judge in any
class wherein they may be an exhibitor.
4. Superintendents of a Department reserve the right of refusing to accept any
entry. Furthermore, the Superintendents reserve the right to bar from competition animals, baked goods, products from soil or any manufactured articles
that do not possess sufficient merit to warrant recognition.
5. Fair Management may at any time order the removal of any exhibit or part of
an exhibit in poor condition during the fair.

6. While it is the full intention and desire to pay all premiums in full, as advertised in the premium book, yet should any contingency arise by reason of
unfavorable weather, etc.., the Board reserves the right to pay pro-rata; upon
the gross receipts after deducting the expense and the amounts so paid shall
discharge the obligations of the Association for the entry.
7. Fair Management reserves the right to amend or add to these rules as its
judgment may determine.
HEALTH RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR LIVESTOCK
All animals admitted to Show or Fair shall be identified by a unique and permanent ear tag, tattoo, brand or records of unique physical attributes. Animals
known to be infected with or exposed to any contagious, infectious or external
parasitic disease or restricted by quarantine may not be assembled for show
purposes. All animals must comply with applicable State 7 PA Code or Federal
9 CFR rules. Any animal not in compliance will be rejected and not shown.

Any animal admitted to a Fair must be accompanied by an official BAHDS
health certificate indicating compliance with applicable state and federal regulations. All animals must have Certificate of Veterinary Inspection dated May 1,
of the current year. The health certificate will be valid through the entire fair
season, except for swine. All show animals should be held in isolation for at
least 30 days after return to the herd of origin.
It is the responsibility of each exhibitor to care for all animals in a manner that is
responsible and ethical
1. It is the exhibitors responsibility to keep the space they occupy in a clean and
sanitary condition.
2. Animals should be well fed and have access to clean water.
3. When on exhibition, each animal must be under halter. Any type of rough
handling which could harm the animal is prohibited.
4. Transportation of animals should be safe and considerate of the animals wellbeing. Use caution when loading and unloading.
5. Junior exhibitors should have assistants on standby if needed.
6. All exhibitors must be present with their animal for judging or they will not
be judged.

2. All equine animals must have tested negative for EIA by an official test within the 12 months prior to the opening date of the exhibition. A copy of the
official test results must accompany each animal to its final destination.
Foals less than 6 months of age accompanied by a dam which meets the
above requirements are exempt from EIA testing requirements. If the foal is
not accompanied by the dam, a copy of the dam’s test results must accompany the foal to its final destination.
3. Horse and other equidae assembled for exhibition, competition, or sale
should be immunized to prevent contagious respiratory disease not less than
15 days before the show. Exhibitors are advised to consult their veterinarians regarding proper conditioning and vaccination of their animals at least
thirty days prior to the event.

an accredited veterinarian, stating that the animal was indeed vaccinated.

poster contest at agriculture fairs. Participating fairs will hold their own
contest and submit one poster for each age group to the state level for
additional judging and cash prizes.
CRITERIA FOR THE STATE CONTEST
1.
Only one poster per student, per age group may be submitted.
2.
Poster size must be 14” x 22” or 14.5” x 22”, equivalent to one half of a
standard poster board. Over sizes will not be judged.
3.
This years theme is “Know Your Farmer”. Other themes will be
disqualified at the state level.

Only one poster per age group may be forwarded for the state competition.

RULES and REGULATIONS FOR ALL CATTLE
1.
Exhibitors will be expected to display or parade their animals as directed by
the superintendent: to accept the stall assigned without controversy; to keep
their animals in an attractive appearance, and to cooperated with Department 2 officials in every way that may serve to increase the educational
value of the show.
2.
It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to know the judging schedule. Stock
must be in the ring promptly on call and a failure to comply with the order
renders exhibitors liable to be ruled out of competing.
3.
All exhibitors must be present with their animal for judging, or they will not
be judged.
4.
Decorations with ribbons or ornaments previously won by animals at shows
shall be prohibited until after the awards have been made in their respective
classes by the judges.
5.
Exhibitors - All cattle must be on the grounds Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016
before 3:00pm. Cattle may be released on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016 between
the hours of 10:00am and 12:00pm.

Get-of-Sire, consists of three doe from a particular sire with not more than one
under 1 year old and not more than one animal from every multiple birth allowed.
Get-of-Sire need not be owned by the exhibitor. Entries in this class shall be
made in the name of the sire.
3.
Produce of Dam shall consist of two doe of different ages, the produce of one
dam need not be owned by the exhibitor. Entries in this class shall be made in the
name of the Dam.
4.
A Dairy Herd consist of three milking doe of one breed, any age.
5.
The Senior Champion Class consist of all 1st place winners in 3 classes or Doe
one year old and under 2, in milk and older animals.
6.
The Junior Champion Class consist of all 1st place winners in classes 2 and 3 or

All breeds recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association are eligible for
competition and are to be judged according to the latest standard of perfection of the
association.
2.
The latest rules of the American Rabbit Association will govern.
3.
Pen must consist of three (3) rabbits.
4.
Each exhibitor limited to 2 entries per class.
5.
Each exhibitor must sign a statement as to the rabbit being free from health
disorders.
6.
No rabbit may compete in more than one class.

general home economics in a comprehensive high school are considered as
qualifying. All entries shall be approved prior to the fair by a member of Pennsylvania Department of Education, Agriculture or Family and Consumer Science
staff, or their designated representative.

In selecting vegetables for exhibition, choose such specimens that would bring the
highest market price. Do not select the largest, select medium size specimens. If
at all possible, do not mix varieties.
The following factors are generally used by an expert vegetable judge.
a. Trueness to variety type. If at all possible, pick the specimens from one variety.
b. Uniformity in shape, size and color
c. Be sure to pick out a perfect specimen, then select the others as similar to it as
possible. Never mix specimens of different maturity.
d. Protect from dirt, disease, infection, and mechanical damage. Select specimens
that are perfect and show no blemishes of any kind.
e. Condition and maturity. Be sure that exhibits are of high quality.
f. Potatoes should not be washed. Remove soil using a soft cloth or brush.
g. Tomatoes should have stem removed. Carrots, beets, etc. should have tops
(leaves) removed from vegetables leaving about (2) two inches of stems.
Read premium material, carefully following all rules and regulations. If any entry
calls for five specimens, be sure to exhibit that number; do not enter four or six.
In any instance, your exhibits will be disqualified if the correct number of specimens is not entered.
All specimens must be in a Ziploc bag.
1.
No article can compete as more than one entry; that is an article can be
judged but once.
2.
All clothing must be laundered and ironed.
3.
Each exhibit to be judged on workmanship, worth of article, appropriateness
of material and design.
4.
Article must not have been exhibited before at the Ox Hill Fair.
5.
One entry per class, per exhibitor.

All Youth Market animals must be owned and in possession of the exhibitor by
June 1st of the current year, with the exception of rabbits which must be owned
and in the possession of the exhibitor by August 9 of the current fair year.
2.
All animals must be tagged/tattooed by fair official at given date and time.

The fair has the right to accept entries until stall space is filled.

All Youth Market animals will arrive on the fairgrounds Sunday, September 6th
between 1:00pm and 4:00pm. All animals entered will be sold at the Youth Market Sale on Saturday, of the fair at 1:00pm. Each exhibitor may show and sale 2
animals of each species. 1 meat pen and 1 meat rabbit.
5.
The fair has the right to withdraw animals that are uncontrollable or unthrifty from
the fair. All animals must be of market quality. Exhibitors must be able to prove
to the superintendent that they can control their animal.
6.
Livestock exhibitors must follow all state health regulations for livestock entries.
Health papers must be presented to the committee/superintendents upon unloading
any livestock on Sunday of the fair.
7.
All animals will be weighed immediately after unloading Sunday of the fair. All
market lambs are to be slick shorn prior to weigh-in. All goats must be body
clipped no more than 16 days prior to the fair.
8.
ANY animal exceeding the maximum weight or failure to meet the required minimum weight will be disqualified.
9.
A market goat must no show any signs or characteristics of being a dairy goat. Any
goat showing signs of being a dairy goat can not enter the market class

10. Youth exhibitors are expected to be present and in control of their own animal for
the show and sale. Any exception to this rule must be cleared with the superintendents prior to showing the animal.
11. If upon slaughter, any treatment to the animal, (drugs, fitting chemicals,
etc.) causes the carcass to be condemned, the loss will be at the exhibitors
expense.

RULES & REGULATIONS GOVERNING VEGETABLES

12.
Notice to exhibitors and parents: Any inappropriate or unprofessional
behavior, including any foul language, or kind of substance will not be
tolerated. Any such action that arises will be addressed by the committee
and the Fair Board of Directors. Any and all decisions will be final.
13.
Any misprints will not be accepted by the committee. The committee has
any and all final say in such matters.
14.
All rules added to or withheld from above will be in the Ox Hill Community Agriculture Fair bylaws. For a complete copy, please see a committee
member.
1.
In selecting vegetables for exhibition, choose such specimens that would
bring the highest market price. Do not select the largest, select the medium
size specimens. If at all possible do not mix varieties.
2.
The following factors are generally used by expert vegetable judges

Trueness to variety type. Pick specimens from one variety.
b.
Uniformity in shape, size and color.
c.
Be sure to pick out the perfect specimen, then select others as similar as
possible. Never mix specimens of different maturity.
d.
Protect from dirt, disease, infection and mechanical damage. Select
specimens that are perfect and show no blemishes of any kind.
e.
Conditions and maturity. Be sure that exhibits are of high quality.
f.
Potatoes should not be washed. Remove soil by using a soft cloth or
brush.
g.
Tomatoes should have stems removed. Carrots, beets, etc., should have
tops (leaves) removed from vegetable leaving about 2 inches of stems.
3.
Read premium material carefully following all rules and regulations. If an
entry calls for 5 specimens, be sure to enter that number; no more or less.
4.
Display on a paper or Styrofoam plate with a sealable clear bag.
