Fresh, Healthy and Delicious Cuisine at
Neehee’s Indian Vegetarian Street Food
L
ooking for a deliciously
different alternative to the
restaurant scene? Neehee’s
at 45656 Ford Road in Canton
offers a unique taste of Indian
Street Food, vegetarian style!
This bright orange and yellow
restaurant has a great ethnic
vibe for healthy, fresh and
flavorful food.
Owner Rikesh Patel explains that
Indian Vegetarian Street Food
is a step up from the traditional
American hot dog vendor. “In
India there is a large vegetarian
population, and traditionally
workers would be looking for a
nutritious, high protein meal to get
them through the day,” explains Patel.
Patel introduced the concept here in the Detroit
area back in 2003 while selling it out of his Indian
grocery store. “There wasn’t any place around
here that offered it,” says Patel. Indian Vegetarian
Street Food was a hit at the store, so with his
brother Vrijesh as his partner, Patel opened
Neehee’s in 2008.
On the menu are items such as “chaat”, which is
defined as a savory Indian snack. One of the more
popular chaat items is the chole bhature, which
is a spicy blend of chick peas served with deep
fried bhatura, an Indian bread. Its taste is almost
reminiscent of a vegetarian chili.
There is a variety of sandwiches including the
popular Bombay Veggie Club Sandwich.
A combination of beets, tomatoes, potatoes and
cucumbers are layered with cheeses and chutney
for a mouth-watering experience!
The flavors of Indian Vegetarian Street Food
reflect the different cultures and regions of India,
as does Neehee’s menu. These delicious items
range from soups and sandwiches to full dinners
made with beans, vegetables, and Indian spices.
There are even Indian Chinese offerings, including
rice and noodle dishes.
Chick pea bowl with bread “chole bhature”,
sandwich“Dabeli”, round barrel with soup and
sauces “masala dosa”, mountain salad “bhel puri”,
Indian Chinese dish “garlic baby corn”.
Neehee’s is fresh and nothing is ever made from
frozen ingredients. In fact, the only frozen item
you’ll find is their delicious homemade ice cream,
made “old-fashioned” style, with ingredients
like fresh rose milk, exotic fruits, pistachios, and
falooda seeds, which promote good digestion.
With over 130 menu items, there is so much to
choose from! Neehee’s prides itself on exceptional
quality in food and service, in a family-friendly

The Canton Downtown Development Authority (DDA)
was created in 1984 in accord with Michigan’s Public
Act 197, as a way to encourage economic growth
along what was envisioned to become the community’s
primary retail corridor. The Act authorizes the capture of
a portion of the property taxes paid by property owners
and businesses to be used to promote economic vitality
for the defined DDA District.
Canton DDA
The Canton Downtown Development Authority is an
appointed 12 member Board consisting of Canton resident
members, along with business and property members
from within the DDA District, the Township Supervisor
and a DDA Coordinator. They work together to implement projects in the DDA District which is located along
a three-mile length of Ford Road from just east of Lotz
Road and continues just west of Canton Center Road.
Property owners and businesses located in the district are
automatically members of the DDA. A portion of their
property taxes is used to support economic development
activities that serve to retain existing businesses and
attract new business to the area.
The Board meets on the third Wednesday of each month
at 8:00 a.m. in the Supervisor’s Office of the Canton
Township Administration Building. The meetings
are open to the public. The DDA Board encourages
residents, business owners, property owners, and
other interested parties to attend. There is always an
opportunity for citizen comment.
Having a strong and active Ford Road commercial
district benefits all of Canton. The ShopCanton brand
adopted by the DDA, in partnership with the Canton
Chamber of Commerce, encourages residents to
“shop local” and invites shoppers from neighboring
communities and visitors to experience all that the
Canton Community has to offer.
Projects the Canton DDA is involved in include:

•Streetscape Improvements with Streetlights,
Brick Garden Walls, and Landscaping
•Relocation of Overhead Utility Lines to Underground
•Wayfinding Banners and Signage
•Public Art Exhibits (in conjunction with

established by the Canton Downtown
Development Authority.
Look for
the fresh,
newly
printed
banners
going up
this fall!
The system of color-coded banners found
on the decorative street lamps is numbered
by blocks so that finding your way around
Canton to your favorite shops and restaurants
is a snap!
The colored blocks run east and west on
both sides of Ford Road to assist in locating
everything from salons, to shoe repair or your
favorite grocer.
