Environmental Considerations
Climate Control

DO NOT expose the machine to extreme variations in temperature
and humidity as this could decrease both performance and longevity.

Operate and/or store the machine at room temperature
and in a dry, contaminant free environment.
Lighting

Ensure the entire working area of the machine is well lit.
Ventilation

Consider the ventilation system requirements
according to the type and amount of material being processed.

Consult the SDS and MSDS to determine any special requirements.
Clean Working Conditions

Keep the machine and the working area clean and clear of obstructions.
Corrosion

Some of the machine components are subject to corrosion in an unfavorable environment.

DO NOT expose the machine to free flowing water-based fluids or lubricants.

DO NOT expose the machine to acidic or alkaline substances.

Intended Use
Machines are designed to machine or cut:
wood, engineered wood, plastics, aluminum and non-ferrous metals,
metal composite materials, steel using a plasma cutting head, vinyl,
paper, cardboard, foam, fabric, rubber, and similar materials.
Foreseeable Misuse
These machines are NOT designed to cut or machine:
stone or similar products, glass, phenolic, and related materials.
If you are uncertain, contact AXYZ International or a qualified support service.
DO NOT process hazardous materials or products
including any substance that is or contains a flammable,
toxic, explosive, corrosive, infectious, oxidizing, or reactive agent.
Doing so could result in equipment damage,
serious injury, or even death.
Disposal
The majority of the machine components can be recycled.
Only qualified persons should disassemble the machine.
Recycle or dispose of the components according to your municipal guidelines.

Materials Suitable for Cutting
The following is a brief overview of some commonly processed materials.
If you are uncertain about processing a specific material, consult your supervisor or an AXYZ representative.
Do not use the machine to cut extremely hard material, such as carbides.
Doing so could damage the machine and/or injure you.
Plastics – All plastics, including the “hard” plastics such as polycarbonate, cast or extruded acrylics, corrugated, and UHMW
Wood – Most natural types of wood, other wood-based materials, including MDF, plywood, and other composite boards
Non-Ferrous Metals – Such as aluminum, brass, copper, and derivatives
ACM - Most types of ACM, including those with stainless steel or titanium
Composites and Laminates – Many types of composites and laminates
Foams – Most foam-based materials
Rubber – Hard and soft rubber and neoprene
Leather – Both natural and imitation
Card Stock – Thick, multiple layers, and single layer carton
Other – Cork, foil, vinyl, felt, textiles, and more

Rules and Guidelines
It is your responsibility to read, understand, and follow all of the safety rules and guidelines.
Rules of Operation
Follow these rules to help ensure your safety when operating the machine.
Failure to comply with these Rules of Operation could result in death or serious injury.

DO NOT remove any of the machine-mounted warning labels
or the mandatory signs in the work area.

DO NOT disable or remove any safety devices or guarding.

DO NOT operate the machine after the consumption of alcohol or the use of narcotics.

DO NOT operate the machine if you have taken medications or drugs
that could cause drowsiness or loss of attention.

DO NOT operate the machine while wearing rings, watches, chains,
loose clothing, neckties, or untied long hair.

DO NOT use the machine as a workbench or hammer on the tabletop.

DO NOT stand or lean on the machine while it is in operation.

DO NOT remove any cut material while the machine is running.

DO NOT adjust any tooling, misters, or extractor hoses during operation.

DO NOT attempt to brake or slow down the machine with your hands or any foreign device.

DO NOT attempt to repair the machine, unless you are qualified.

DO NOT open the electrical enclosure(s) while electrical power is enabled.

DO NOT use pressurized air, washers, or free flowing liquids to clean the machine.

Guidelines
These guidelines will help you to operate the machine safely.

Ensure that all operators have access to and understand these instructions.

Read, understand, and comply with the warning labels on the machine
and the mandatory signs posted in the work area.

Wear the required PPE (personal protective equipment) at all times.

Ensure that anyone near the machine knows how to perform an emergency stop.

Only authorized persons should enter the working area while the machine is in operation.

Look for and remove any loose parts, work pieces, or tools left in the operating area,
before starting the machine.

Keep the working area clean and free of obstructions, such as waste material.

When machining combustible material, keep the correct type of fire extinguisher accessible.

Keep chemicals and flammable material away from electrical equipment and moving components.

Verify that the machine is in good working order for production.

Verify that the emergency stop pushbuttons, machine guarding, and all other safety devices
are functioning correctly.

Ensure that the cutters, knives, and/or engraving tools are in good working condition.

Verify that the mister(s) are functioning correctly.

Ensure material to be processed is securely held.

Stay clear of moving parts when the machine is in operation.

Operator Qualifications
It is your responsibility to ensure that only qualified persons operate this CNC router.
Operation of this machine by an unqualified operator
could result in serious injury or death.
The following operator qualifications apply:

Complete a course of training that is acceptable to and approved by AXYZ International and your company.

Be knowledgeable about the basic design, operation, cleaning, and maintenance of the CNC router.

Be knowledgeable about the types of material that are processed with the CNC router.

Be knowledgeable about the specific tools and configuration of the machine.

Be knowledgeable about the control devices, such as the warning lights, visible and audible signals, and safety systems.

Be able to disconnect the main electrical power supplied to the machine.

Be able to disconnect the main pressurized air supplied to the machine.

Be able to operate the CNC router in a safe manner, according to the safety rules and guidelines,
and to maintain the required operational logs and records.
You must:

Operate the equipment by following the instructions contained in this manual.

Follow all WARNINGS, CAUTIONS, and other notices.

Ensure the machine is properly maintained before commencing with operation.

Processing Material
It’s important to understand the potential hazards associated with processing certain materials.
Read and understand the following information concerning the varied conditions.
Combustibles
When processing materials such as cardboard, MDF, or other wood products,
the risk of a fire exists. Ensure access to a suitable fire extinguisher.
Refer to the SDS or MSDS to determine the specific requirements.
Dust Explosion
Processing materials such as MDF or other wood products creates dust.
The risk of a dust explosion exists. Use a suitable dust collection system.
Toxic Fumes and Dust
Processing materials such as MDF, plastics, and some composites
may cause exposure to toxic fumes, gases, or dust.
Refer to the SDS or MSDS to determine any potential risks
and take appropriate measures to control these risks.

Sharp Edges and Splinters
Materials such as metals, natural wood, and some composites may have sharp edges
and/or splinters that could cut or pierce your hands, arms, or other parts of your body.
Wear cut-resistant gloves and protective clothing.
Hot Materials and Waste
Processing plastics and metals generates heat in both the material being cut
and the debris. This increases the risk of skin burns.
Use heat resistant gloves when handling hot material after cutting.
Heavy or Awkward Sheets of Material
When loading/unloading heavy or awkward material onto the table,
consider working with an assistant.
Also consider the use of appropriate lifting gear and rigging,
including suitable panel lifters and similar equipment.
Material Hold-down
When processing porous or irregular-surface materials,
alternate methods of hold-down are required.
Use clamps or fixtures to secure the material.

Protective Features
Emergency Stop Pushbuttons
The machine is equipped with Emergency Stop pushbuttons that, when pressed, halt all motion.
Familiarize yourself with the location of these pushbuttons.
The CONTROLS and INDICATORS section provides more information.
Fixed Machine Guards
The machine is equipped with several protective covers that
prevent you from coming into contact with hazardous components.
DO NOT operate the machine without these guards.
A tool is required for their removal.
Without the guards, you may come into contact with
components that could seriously injure or even death.
Carriage
This plate covers the drive and electrical components.
Devices
These covers are unique to each type of device.
Refer to the OEM literature for more information.
Gantry Legs
These covers restrict access to the X-axis drive components.

Pressure Foot
The pressure foot and bellows are attached to the spindle.
They help prevent accidental contact with the cutter.
Retraction of the pressure foot and/or bellows may be required
during cutter inspection or manual tool replacement.
DO NOT operate the machine without
the pressure foot and bellows properly installed.
Coming into contact with rotating cutter bits
or debris could seriously injure you.

Personal Protective Equipment - PPE
Operators and other persons working near the machine must wear protective equipment
in accordance with the machine configuration, material, and process requirements.
Hearing Protection
Wear hearing protection when machining noise is excessive.
Examples: When cutting some metals, plastics, or hard materials.
Eye Protection – Face Shield
Wear eye/face protection during all machining operations.
Special eye protection must be worn during Plasma cutting.
Mask or Respirator
Processing some materials may create airborne toxins.
Wear an appropriate mask or respirator.
Refer to the SDS or MSDS for specific information.
Suitable Gloves
Wear suitable gloves when handling sharp edged or hot materials.
Cutters are sharp and may also be hot during changeover procedures.
Clothing
Wear protective clothing when working with sharp edged or hot materials.
You may also come into contact with contaminants, such as dust, debris, or lubricants.
Footwear
Wear safety rated footwear when working with material over 20 kg. or 40 lbs.
or where a cut hazard exists.

Dust and Debris Collection Systems
During the machining process, dust and debris may be produced.
Cutting certain materials, such as MDF and other wood products,
creates dust that could explode. Ensure that the machine
is equipped with a properly functioning extraction system.
Failure to comply with this warning could result in,
property damage, serious injury, or even death.
Each pressure foot is equipped with an outlet
for the connection of an extraction hose.
Ensure each extraction hose is attached directly to a collection system
or to the corresponding outlet on the vacuum manifold.
The hose must be connected to a suitable extraction system.
Before starting the machine, ensure the extraction system
is free of obstructions and in optimal working order.
Failure to do so could result in material or tool damage.

Hazard Labels
Ensure that all of the hazard labels are displayed according
to the direction provided in this segment of the manual
and that they are in legible condition.
Electrical Enclosure
All operators must be aware of the implications of these labels.
Failure to do so could lead to serious injury or even death.

What model of machine are you working with
and where the serial number is
Serial Number
Also located on a label on the electrical enclosure.
Identifies the specific machine
AXYZ International tracks information about the machine,
including ownership and location, based on the serial
number.
Please report any modifications or change of ownership.
Doing so helps AXYZ to provide you with pertinent support.
Model Number
A combination of the table series and length of the table
The first digit denotes the nominal table width in feet.
The last two digits signify the table length in feet.
E.g. this 5010 table is 5-feet wide and 10-feet long.
Automatic Tool Changer
“ATC” shows that the machine is equipped
with a tool changer.

Major Components and Function
Determine the devices and configuration of your specific machine.
Carriage
Your machine is equipped with either single or dual carriages.
Devices are mounted to the carriage.
Devices
Router spindles, pressure feet and options, knives, drills, engravers,
misters, vision system, braille, print head, and more.
ATC Automatic Tool Changer
This optional unit is mounted to the gantry leg.
It allows automatic selection and installation of cutting tools.
Gantry
The beam, support by two legs, spans the width of the table.
Your machine may be configured with the dual gantry option.
Material Hold-down System
The spoil board on the tabletop protects the machine surface
from cutter damage and is a part of the vacuum hold-down system.
Table
The rigid steel frame is fitted with an aluminum deck.

Table Overview
Popup Pins
These optional pins help you to quickly
and accurately align the material for processing.
They are usually located across the front
and along the left side of the tabletop. (Not shown)
Tool Tip Sensor
If there’s no ATC, a tool tip sensor
is installed at this corner of the tabletop.
Hold-down System Manifold
Located near the front of the machine
under the tabletop.
Linear Bearing Rails
Mounted on either side of the table frame.
Guide the gantry along the length of the table.
Linear Gear Rack
Mounted below the bearing rail,
it provides drive motor engagement.

Material Hold-down System
Material for processing can either be held by vacuum
or it can be manually clamped to the deck.
Vacuum Source
The table’s vacuum system is connected to either a pump or blower.
Refer to the OEM literature for information about your equipment.
Spoil Board
Use either a standard MDF or precision board.
Fasteners secure the board to the tabletop.
“T” Slot Deck
Used for securing clamps or fixtures to the tabletop.
Hold-down Vacuum Manifold
Supplies vacuum to the various zones in the tabletop.
May be fitted with manual valve handles (as shown).
Zone Diagram
Identifies the table’s vacuum zone configuration.
Corresponds with the numbers on each valve or switch.

Gantry
The gantry beam is supported above the tabletop by two legs that
move along linear bearing rails attached to either side of the table.
The gantry beam guides the Y-axis carriage motion.
The beam may have a cantilever at either or both ends,
depending on the carriage configuration and/or
the automatic tool changer option.
Dual gantry systems allow separate processing
at either end of the table.
Drive System
The gantry legs contain the X-axis drive system.
There are two drive motor options:

Stepper motor with a drive belt and pulley system

Servo drive system with a planetary gearbox
There are two gear rack options:

Spur gear (usually for stepper drive)

Helical (angled) gear (usually for servo drive)

Automatic Tool Changer
This optional device allows for seamless, multiple-router-tool processing.
There are three capacities: 7, 21, and 33 tools,
as identified by the number on the cover.
Router Spindle
Equipped with a quick tool release feature, the HSD spindle
releases the tool onto the raised tool cup.
Tool Tip Sensor
Determines the exact position of the tool in the spindle.
Automatic Cover
Opens to allow the actuator to raise the tool cup.
Closes after the tool change to help prevent contamination.
Tool Carousel
Machine controlled to receive and deliver
the appropriate tool for the process.
Actuator
Raises the cups to either receive a tool from the spindle
or insert the selected tool from the carousel into the spindle.

Carriage(s)
The machine is either equipped with one or two carriages.
On dual carriage machines, Carriage #1 is on the right side
and Carriage #2 is on left.
Device Connectors
There are up to four positions and the corresponding connectors
for cutting devices such as routers, knives, and drills.
Each position is numbered sequentially from right to left.
Options
Such as the AVS, misters, and printers
are mounted directly to the carriage and
are not assigned a numbered position.
Linear Gear Rack
Mounted to the top of the gantry
to provide drive motor engagement.
Z-Plate
Ball screw driven assemblies are fitted to positions
where routers or knives are mounted. They allow
the cutting device to be raised and lowered.
Linear Bearing Rails
Mounted on either side of the gantry to guide the carriage.

Device Options
Various devices cut and shape the material.
Other devices assist in that process.
This section provides information about:
Routers – Spin a bit that cuts the material
Pressure Feet – Help reduce the risk of contact with cutting tools,
may help in material hold-down, and dust and debris collection
Knives – Slice or crease material
Drills – Make holes in material
Engraver – Marks/cuts into the material
Mister – Lubricates the cutter
Vision System – Locates registration marks on prints
Print Head – Prints on the material
Braille System – Installs braille characters
Dust and Chip Collection – Removes dust and debris from the cutting area

Routers
There are two basic types of cutting tool attachment,
as shown and described below.
Learn more about changing the cutter bit
in the OPERATING PROCEDURES chapter
Cutting Tool Change section.
Routers vary in horsepower and operating speed.
Refer to the OEM literature for more information
about your specific the router(s).
ELTE - Collet Spindle
The collet is compressed by a covernut
to hold the cutter bit (tool) in the spindle.
Routers are equipped with sharp cutting bits
that may not stop spinning immediately.
Always ensure the router spindle has completely stopped
and use approved gloves to handle the cutter.
Coming into contact with the sharp cutting tools
could seriously injure you.
HSD - Quick Release Spindle
The cutter bit is secured to a cone.
The spindle captures the cone.
A pneumatically actuated quick release
can be manually activated by pressing
the button or is automatically activated
by the tool changer (ATC).

Pressure Feet
The assembly is fitted to bottom of the spindle and helps
to prevent operator contact with the router bit.
Both types of pressure feet are part of an effective dust and debris
collection system and may assist in material hold-down.
High Capacity
This assembly rides on the surface of the material being cut.
The cutter depth is determined by the spindle’s Z-plate position.
With the optional Nose Rider Collar (not shown)
The assembly rides on the surface of the material being cut
to ensure a consistent cutting depth independent
of variances in material thickness.
This option is primarily used for processing ACM.
Universal 5Y
This assembly rides on or just above the surface
of the material being cut. It does not compensate
for variances in material thickness.
Manually set the fixed height.
DO NOT operate the machine without the pressure foot
and bellows (if applicable) properly installed.
Coming into contact with rotating cutter bits
or debris could seriously injure you.
There are two types of pressure feet and
they can be equipped with various options.

High Capacity
This assembly rides on the material during processing.

Pressure Foot Assembly
This assembly is pneumatically raised for tool change
and then lowered during processing.
Bellows
Helps to prevent accidental contact with the cutting tool
and assists in effective dust and debris extraction.
Extraction hose
Connected to the dust and debris collection system.
Interface
Various options such as a donut or brush are attached to the base.
Raised position
Provides cutter access for inspection and replacement.
Lowered position
Uses the weight of the spindle and foot to assist in material hold-down.
Processing position
The interface rides on the surface of the material while processing
to ensure a consistent cut depth despite variations in thickness.

Universal 5Y
Rides at a fixed height either on or just above the material

Fixed stop
Raises and lowers the pressure foot with Z-plate/spindle motion.
Bellows
Helps to prevent accidental contact with the cutter.
Contains the dust and chips and enhances extraction.
Extraction hose
Connected to the dust and debris collection system.
Interface
Various options, such as a donut or brush, are attached to the base.
Ride height adjustment
Use this knob to set/lock the processing position of the pressure foot.
Clearance position
With a raised Z-plate/spindle, obstacles can be cleared.
Ride height position
Set the position of the pressure foot when it is lowered for processing.
Processing position
The spindle/cutter can independently raise and lower while processing.

Options
The following parts enhance the performance
and capabilities of the pressure foot.
Nose Rider Assembly
The collar and ring are placed between the
pressure foot assembly and the bottom of the spindle.
Manually adjust the collar ring to set the cutting depth.
The foot/collar is pressed against the bottom of the spindle.
An optional reducer bushing is required for some spindles.
Bellows Seal
Helps prevent accidental exposure to the cutting tool
and significantly assists in dust and debris extraction.
Donut and Brush
Help prevent marking of the material
and assists in dust and debris extraction.

Knives
There are two basic types of precision knives,
as shown and described below.
Knives are equipped with sharp cutting blades.
Learn more about installing cartridges and knives
in the OPERATING PROCEDURES section
Knife Blades segment.
Tangential
Use extreme caution when handling the blades.
Coming into contact with the sharp edges
of the blades could seriously injure you.
Oscillating
The blade or wheel follows
a determined cut path.
Various types of cartridges hold
the knife blade, cutting wheel,
or creasing wheel.
The blade moves up and down
while following a path to cut through
materials such as foam or cardboard.
Blades are manually installed.

Drills
There are two basic types of drills,
as shown and described below.
Drills are equipped with sharp cutting bits.
Use caution when handling them.
The edges could cut you.
Single pneumatic or electric drill
The photo shows two drill units
mounted beside each other.
The unit is pneumatically actuated
and is either pneumatically
or electrically driven.
The manual drill chuck
secures the bit.
Multi-spindle drilling head
The pneumatically actuated unit
is either configured with 5 or 9 bits.
Activate any combination of bits.
Refer to the device specific
documentation
for more information.

Cold Air Gun
Mounted beside the router spindle,
this pneumatic unit directs cold air at the cutter.
Used to improve edge quality and prolong cutter life,
when processing acrylics and plastics.
Engraver

To remove the bit assembly from the router spindle:
1. Ensure the spindle has completely stopped rotation
and that it is in the raised position.
2. Remove or raise the pressure foot.
3. Carefully hold the cone to prevent it from falling when released.
Either use protective gloves or avoid contact with the bit.
4. Press the green button on the spindle to release the bit assembly.
5. Lower the bit assembly clear of the spindle/pressure foot.

Router Bit Replacement – HSD Spindles
Procedure continued from the previous page
To replace the bit:
1. Depress the cone lock-in plunger.
2. Place the bit assembly into the holder,
aligning an orientation flat at the top.
3. Release the plunger and verify that
the assembly is locked in place.
4. Use the wrench to loosen and
remove the cover nut.
5. Remove the collet and the cutter bit.
6. Inspect/clean the cone,
collet, and cover nut.
Refer to Servicing the Tools
7. Place/snap the collet into the cover nut.
8. Insert the bit into the collet.
Expose about a ¼” or 7mm of the shank.
9. Install the sub-assembly into the cone.
10. Use the wrench to tighten the cover nut.

Processing Considerations
Operator Qualification
Ensure that the machine operators are trained and that they have access to the AXYZ support services.
Type of Tool
Select and properly install the optimal bit or blade for the type of material you intend to process.
For production, do not use adaptor bushings to reduce the collet size.
Excessive Heat

Heat can destroy the router bit.

The denser the material, the faster the feed rate to help minimize heat.

If the feed rate is too slow, the friction causes bit burning.

To help prevent excessive heat, do not allow the bit to dwell in the cut.

Use a mister or cold air gun when possible.
Condition of the Machine

The condition of the machine directly impacts its ability to perform.

Maintain the machine according to AXYZ recommendations.

Solution: Check for and reset any pressed Emergency Stop pushbutton(s).
2 Possible cause: The Main Power Disconnect switch is in the OFF position.
Solution: Turn the switch to the ON position and press the ON pushbutton.
3 Possible cause: The main electrical power supply is OFF.
Solution: Turn the supply power ON.
4 Possible cause: Blown fuse
Solution: Have a qualified service technician check and/or replace
the main power disconnect fuses and fuses 21 & 22.
If you have verified that none of the conditions listed above are causing the problem,

Edge Deterioration and Bit Breakage
These conditions apply to both router bits and engraving tools.
1 Possible cause: Incorrect bit selection/installation
Conditions: Bits are designed to cut particular materials and to perform specific types of cuts.
Selecting an incorrect type of bit could lead to unfavourable results.
Bits must be selected according to the desired results.
Solution: Ensure that you select a suitable bit for processing the material and that you install it correctly.
2 Possible cause: A dull bit
Condition: A dull bit causes friction, which results in excessive heat that burns the bit.
Solution: Ensure that you are using a sharp bit. Replace (DO NOT sharpen) dull bits.
3 Possible cause: Defective collet
Condition: The collet and covernut may be contaminated or defective/out of balance,
which causes the bit to slip, be askew, and/or vibrate in the holder.
Solution: Clean and inspect the collet. If it’s worn or damaged, replace it.
4 Possible cause: Lack of cooling and/or lubrication
Condition: Excessive friction/heat causes bit degradation and leads to tool failure.
Solution: Ensure that you are providing adequate cooling and/or lubrication to the bit.

5 Possible cause: Incorrect feed rate or spindle RPM
Condition: If the feed rate is incorrect in relationship to the spindle RPM,
the friction causes excessive heat and burns the bit.
Solutions: Adjust the feed rate and/or spindle RPM
according to the bit manufacture’s recommendations.
6 Possible cause: Material hold-down
Condition: The material vibrates or shifts during processing.
Solution: Ensure that the material is properly secured to the tabletop
and that the vacuum pressure is adequate.
7 Possible cause: Machine condition
Condition: Rounded corners could be an indication that there is
a mechanical problem in the motor drive or transmission system.
Out-of-square parts could indicate that the gantry is out-of-square.
Solution: Ensure that the machine is in optimal working condition.

2. Wipe the components with a damp cloth.
Use a 50/50 mix of Isopropyl alcohol and water to dampen a soft cloth.
3. Manually move the carriage and gantry to gain access for cleaning.
4. Then use a vacuum or soft brush to remove the dust and debris
from the tabletop, side rails, and frame.
5. Wipe the structural components with a damp cloth,
dampened with the 50/50 mix.
If you remove the lubrication from the gear rail(s)
during the cleaning process, the rail(s) must be
lubricated again before commencing with operations.

Clean and inspect the cone (tool holder)
and spindle tapers, collets, and covernuts -- daily.
Refer to the tooling OEM literature for
instruction.
Failure to comply with this notice could
result in tool damage and affect the cut quality.
HSD Spindle Taper and Cone
Inspect both the spindle taper and the outside of the cone.
Contamination or damage can allow inconsistent gripping of the cone,
which results in slippage that causes excessive tooling wear.
This affects both the cut quality and reduces tool life.
Premature spindle failure may also occur.
Remove the contamination.
Collet, Inside Cone, Covernut
Resin accumulates on the collet and the inside of the cone and covernut,
which affects the concentricity of the tool and causes poor cut edge quality.
To avoid this condition, remove the resin build-up.

ELTE Spindle, Collet, Covernut
Resin build-up causes the collet to grip inconsistently in the ELTE spindle taper, resulting in slippage.
The slippage causes wear, which affects the cut quality and reduces tool life.
Premature spindle failure may also occur.
To avoid this condition, remove the resin build-up.
Wear and Damage
Check the collet and covernut for wear and damage.
Replace as required.
Collet life span is 3 months,
based on an 8-hour production day.
Covernut
Inspect the inside taper and threads to ensure it is clean
and free of burrs and that there is no wear or damage.
Remove the resin or replace the nut, as required.
A faulty covernut can cause the collet to be skewed,
which results in poor cut quality and could
damage the collet and/or bit.

Yearly, lubricate and replace specific bearings

Electrical Enclosure Fan
Monthly, service the filter
Disable the electrical power
Remove the grill
Clean or replace the filter
Disconnect the pneumatic supply coupler
Empty and clean the filter cup
Refer to the OEM literature

DO NOT operate the machine
without a clean filter, properly installed.
A clogged filter restricts the airflow
and no filter allows contaminants
into the enclosure. Both conditions
could cause equipment failure.
Pneumatic Supply Filter
Monthly, clean the cup
Disable/disconnect the supply
Refer to the OEM literature
for more detailed information.
Firmly grasp the coupler
when disconnecting
the pneumatic supply hose.
Failure to securely hold the coupler
could result in hose whip, which
could result in minor or moderate
injury.

Lubricating the Machine
Monthly, clean, inspect, and lubricate the following components
Disable the machine according to your company’s procedures
Gear Racks

Clean the rack with a brass wire brush.

Wipe the rack with a damp cloth.
Use a 50/50 mix of Isopropyl alcohol and water to dampen a cloth.

Manually move the carriage or gantry to expose the entire rack.
Coming into contact with the grease
could cause skin and/or eye irritation.
Wear protective gloves and eyewear.
Refer to the SDS for more information.

Linear Bearing Blocks
Grease the Z-plate blocks
Monthly, clean the rails and lubricate the bearing blocks

Wipe the rails with a soft brush and/or cloth.

Use a grease gun to lubricate all of the bearing blocks.
Usually two blocks per rail. Use Multi-Purpose Bearing
Grease or Synthetic Bearing Grease.
You may need to move the device, carriage, or gantry.
Grease the four carriage blocks (Y-axis)

Z-plate Ballscrew

Monthly, clean the screw and lubricate the bearings

Lower the Z-plate and manually lift and support the spindle,
to gain access to the grease fitting.

Wipe the screw with a soft brush and/or cloth.

Use a grease gun to lubricate the ball bearings in the nut.
Use Multi-Purpose Bearing Grease or Synthetic Bearing Grease.
Heavy lifting is required to raise the spindle.
Use proper/approved-lifting techniques.
Failure to do so could cause you serious injury.

Trident Knives

Monthly, clean and lubricate the gear racks

Lower the two Z-plates (knives) and wipe clean
the gear racks with a brass brush and/or a cloth.

Use a clean brush to apply grease to the exposed racks.
Use white lithium grease.

Raise the Z-plates and clean and grease the racks.
Raised Z-plate
Sharp blades on the knives can cut you.
Use caution when working near the knives.
Failure to do so could cause you injury.

Changing the Spoil Board
The condition of the spoil board directly affects the performance
of the vacuum hold-down system.
Disable the machine according to your company’s procedures
1. Use your machine to cut (and drill if required) the replacement spoil board.
2. Disable the machine.
3. Turn OFF the power to the vacuum hold-down system.
4. For a Precision Grid,
remove the screws that fasten the existing board to the tabletop.
5. Remove the existing spoil board.
6. Vacuum and wipe the tabletop to ensure it is clean.
7. Inspect and replace the vacuum zone gaskets, as required.
8. Position the new spoil board onto the tabletop.
9. For a Precision Grid,
install the fastening screws.
