Meet the Director
Fall 2008
The Dream Begins here...
DALE SUMERSILLE
Director of Recreation
Many of you may have already had the pleasure of meeting the new Director of Recreation at the Ojai
Recreation Department, out in the community or even at the SK8 Ojai event last June. For those of you who
have not encountered her yet, we would like to give you this opportunity to find out who is at the helm of
the ship in Recreation. Dale joined our department at the end of last January after prevailing as the leading
candidate through the City’s extensive hiring process. Her background in recreation is extensive. She holds a
Master’s degree in Business Administration from CSU Stanislaus and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Recreation
from the University of the Pacific. She has worked in Recreation for more than two decades, with ten of those
years in Recreation Management.
It is all this experience that allows her to bring so much to the table at our department. She is familiar
with all facets of recreation, and has constructive ideas to assist us in continuing our successful programs
while increasing our efficiency. Dale has the ability to listen, observe and facilitate supportive improvements
without micromanaging. Our department has benefited from the positive changes that she has made in a short
period of time. She is passionate about recreation, successful programming and efficient operation. She is
committed to not only the staff within our department and our city, but to both people and organizations in
our community.
Dale has an open door policy. We, as a staff, seek her guidance regularly. Feel free to drop by and meet the
wonderful, capable, experienced and highly motivated new Director of Recreation.
