You don’t need big horsepower, and expensive machines to
operate a Min-Till operation.

When it was suggested that we tried the 3 metre on our own
McCormick 120hp tractor on some heavy OSR stubble just out of the
back of our yard, there was a fair bit of scepticism a) as to whether
the tractor would pull it/lift it and b) the job it would achieve on our
heavy clay soil.
The McCormick was light on the front end, but with only 400kg of front
weights, that could easily be rectified. It pulled comfortably at 8-10KPH.
The job it did was staggering! At 150-200mm depth, the wide sweep
shares moved, boiled and mixed everything, leaving an excellent tilth
for drilling, in one pass. The DiscBond Steel Packer on the rear with
the notched press wheels left a weather-proof finish.
At a time when farm operating margins and inputs are
under serious scrutiny, it was a real eye-opener to see how
much can be achieved on heavy land with one pass, by such an
affordable tractor and cultivator.
