Ever since Brock’s Plywood Sales, Inc. was started in 1961, it has been
expanding, but in different areas.
Now the business has grown together, with all departments at the same
location. Everything is under one huge roof.
It all started innocently enough as the brainstorm of Maurice Brock, back
in 1961. He had an idea to sell plywood in an old truck garage on a property
next to his house.
The garage was small, only 575 square feet, and all he sold was plywood. So
he added nails, then a few 2 x 4’s and business began to boom.
Maurice’s hard work, fair prices and quality service had turned the business
into a pretty big enterprise. It was a far cry from the one-man business that
had started a few years before.
In the early 60’s, he constructed a new 55’ x 60’ building on Ten Rod Rd. It
was put up in the backyard of the homestead to store the additional building
materials. The expansion was far from over. In 1968 a new office and showroom
was constructed on Ten Rod Rd next to the family home.
By 1974, it was time to expand to add the flooring showroom and warehouse.
In order to do this it was necessary to tear down the family homestead. In
addition, throughout the 70’s two other warehouse buildings were constructed
to house all the lumber, millwork and roofing materials.
In 1978 Cochecho Bottling was purchased for additional storage as well as
to be able to get products shipped by railcar.
As Brock’s continued to grow, in 1984 a major addition was put on the
Cochecho Warehouse to store additional inventory.
The current 25,000 square foot showroom was constructed in 1988 and
Brock’s changed their address from Ten Rod Rd to 298 North Main St. This
location is still home to over 50 employees. In 1989 they remodeled the former
showroom on Ten Rod Rd to the current window and door shop.
In 2004 the main lumber barn, built in the 70’s, was torn down and replaced
with a state of the art metal building to house the lumber and plywood.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Scott Brock became president in 1998.
Scott has been involved in Brock’s since childhood. Maurice remained
extremely active in the business until 2010. Continued by the 3rd generation,
Evan Brock, like his father, has been a fixture in the store since early childhood
and in 2010 started his career at the counter while continuing his education.
Brock’s now carries complete lines of lumber, plywood, doors, windows,
cabinets, carpeting, inlaid, ceramic tile, paint, engineered wood products,
hardware, Formica and many other items for the home. They will service any
customer, from a large order for a contractor to a small order for the homeowner, from the Seacoast to the Lakes Region and beyond.
