CONTINUOUS SWIM LESSONS
Eliminate the hassle of re-registration – with continuous swim lessons you only have to register once!
M (YMCA Members): One FREE/year
NM (Non-Members/Public): Not Available
Note: Don Wheaton Family YMCA will be offering Continuous Swimming Lessons starting Jan 4, 2016
CONTINUOUS SWIM PROGRAM
At the YMCA, we know that it takes more than six to
eight weeks to develop effective lifelong swimming
and water-safety skills. That is why we are thrilled to
offer the YMCA Canada continuous swim lesson
model.
Members sign up for a convenient time slot that
continues throughout the year. All levels will
happen during the same time slot. If you have a
family with several children, they can all participate
at the same time, giving you the freedom to
schedule other activities throughout the day.
Participants will progress at their own pace without
the pressure of completing levels within the typical
lesson set structure and time frame. Our new swim
program provides continuous feedback and
promotes relationship building between the
instructor, swimmer and families.
If the registrant misses two swim classes in a row,
without advanced notice to the Aquatics
Department, their registration will be withdrawn to
allow space for those members on the wait list. To
maintain your spot please inform the YMCA if
missing class by calling the Swim Absence Line 780
423-9622.
To be on a wait list you must have an active
membership.
Progress Cards will be now be given upon request.
Please ask your Instructor, Lead Instructor or
Aquatics Coordinator at any time if you would like
to receive a Progress Card. Children need to have
attended at least four lessons in order to receive a
progress card.
You do not need to re-register if you are in a
Continuous Swimming Lessons. You will only be
removed from Continuous lessons if you do not
meet our absence policy, put your membership on
hold, cancel or your membership expires (and is
lapsed).

NEW REGISTRANT?
CHANGING DAYS OR TIMES OF YOUR SWIMMING CLASS?
Welcoming your child into our swimming lessons and placing them in the appropriate class is our priority.
Organizing all children to their new classes in the same week means that we are able to plan for their
assessment and their first day of lessons in advance.
Instead of moving children in and out of lessons daily we are moving them all in one week. This allows all
children to learn new skills with little interruption to their learning process throughout the month. We have
implemented this change to help with our lesson quality and to strengthen the relationships between
instructors and children participating in our classes.
We realize this is different than the process we were using before and we know this will help to improve our
lessons for everyone. If you know that you would like to change class days and times please inform the
Aquatics Coordinators before the end of the month and get on the waiting list of the lesson day and time you
would like to change to. You can be on one waitlist at a time.
You will be welcomed into lessons during the starting weeks below. You may register up to 24 hours before
the starting day during our welcome week.

child’s lesson is normally on. This is an opportunity to check in with your child’s swimming instructor to find
out how your child is progressing in their swimming lesson and what they may still need to work on. Please
visit your child’s instructor on the pool deck in the last 10-15 minutes of their class on Parents’ Day and ask
your instructor about your child’s progress. This is a good time to meet your child’s new instructor, as
instructors may change at the beginning of January, May and September.
