Licata – Where to Go, What to Do
1. Half a day trip
- Ancient Licata: The origins of this town on the southern coast of Sicily, dated back to prehistoric times, are evidenced
by numerous finds of the Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic eras, such as the Hypogeon Stagnone Pontillo, the
necropolis of Monte Petrulla, the pre-hellenistic Grangela. Identified as the "Liberty City",Licata offers to its visitors
numerous monuments, sumptuous villas and precious decorations preserved on its territory: the Villas Liberty Park, the
City Palace, the Verderame Palace and the Re Grillo Theatre. You have guided tour asking at the Marina reception, or
to the local turist office: +39 328 0613653 (Pierangelo Timoneri).

- Piazza Armerina (45 km) - Villa del Casale; Aidone – Venere di Morgantina
Rich in medieval monuments, baroque palaces, religious buildings and elegant gardens, Piazza Armerina is linked to
the Villa Romana del Casale: protected by UNESCO since 1997, was built by an emperor or, perhaps, by a member of
the senatorial aristocracy and it can be considered, for its beauty and complexity, one of the best examples of a
representative dwelling compared to other contemporary of the Western Roman Empire.
Then, go to Morgantina (20 km): Given back from the Paul Ghetty Museum in Malibu, the Greek statue of the fifth
century B.C., is now exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Aidone. The Venus finds its natural place in a tourist
route that is not found anywhere else in the world: the streets of the ancient Morgantina with its undamaged Agora and
its precious homes and the majesty of the Venus make that every visitor feels completely immersed in the enchanting
Roman era.
- Agrigento Temples (40km), than Scala del Turchi beach (12 km).
Founded in 581 B. C. by Greek colonists rhodium-Cretans, Akràgas became, in the following century, one of the largest
and most prosperous cities in the Mediterranean: to testify this, the extraordinary archeological finds hedged in the
Regional Archaeological Museum of Agrigento and the majestic Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO heritage of
humanity. Four kilometers from Agrigento, in Contrada Kaos, to visit the Regional Home Museum Luigi Pirandello.
Licata: Castel Sant’Angelo Palazzo Frangipane Stagnone Pontillo Chiesa Sant’Angelo
