The Term 3/4 spring season for all year levels was a great success, and a fantastic way to
finish off a stellar year of Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) for Marymount College in
2014. The spring season for the Year 8/9s spread out over Terms 3 and 4, and started for
the Year 6/7s in Term 4. A total of 15 After School Sports teams competed throughout the
final term of 2014, with 5 Knockout teams still in their competitions, and Sports Day/ECA
Presentation Night happening at Marymount amongst the busy schedule.
The 8/9 After School Sports Indoor Soccer squad, coached by a determined Miss Belinda
D’Agostino and an amped Mr Daniel Jones, finished 1st overall in their competition and
received the Term 3/4 Southern Zone Championship pennant. The 8/9 Blue After School
Basketball team, coached superbly by Ms Emily Caruso, also finished first in their
respective division. Congratulations to all the Year 6, 7, 8 and 9 softball, volleyball, tennis,
badminton, indoor soccer, Spikezone, touch football and softball players who
participated in after school sport this season and represented their college proudly.
Legendary stuff girls! Again, we’d like to extend a big THANK YOU to all the teachers,
staff members and parents/carers who supervised an After School Sports team this term.
Our Knockout Sports program continued throughout Term 4, with some pleasing
results and highlights. The 6/7 Knockout Tennis players made it through to Round 2
and the 8/9 Knockout Basketball players made it through to the grand final stages for
the first time in years; well done to Ms Kristin Anderson and the team for displaying
true Marymount grit and determination. The 8/9 Knockout Tennis players
participated in a difficult 1st round encounter at Somerton Park Tennis Club against
Brighton High, and our 6/7 and 8/9 Knockout Softball players gave it their all in their
respective championship encounters.
Amongst the busy ECA schedule this season, Marymount girls and the community
participated in the annual Sports Day Carnival at Marymount College on the 31st
October. Thank you to everyone who supported Marymount College at this event;
the girls thoroughly enjoyed the day and some excellent results were achieved,
including broken records from Sophia Fry in the High Jump (attained a PB and
school record of 1.65 metres), and Grace Donnell in the 6/7 Shot Put (attained a
school record of 9.90 metres). I would like to congratulate all our Age Champions
and Runners Up on the day, and to everyone who participated in an event(s), or
games. Congratulations also to Jazmyne Arriola and Paris Turnbull for leading
McLaughlin House to victory in 2014 and also on displaying the most Spirit on the
day; being awarded the Roma Hayward Shield.
The Marymount ECA Presentation Night went as planned. The evening was an
excellent opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Marymount’s students and
community members in the areas of Sports, Debating and Pedal Prix. I would like to
thank the School Vice-Captain and Year 9 Matildas Class Captain, Sophie Agostino
and Maddie Evans for helping Tracey Tapscott and I host this event. Congratulations
to anyone who involved themselves in an ECA as a player, coach, supervisor, mentor
and/or umpire this year; we really appreciate your support.
Overall, this year of Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) was a huge success, with some
great results achieved, awesome team spirit displayed and lots of community members
participating. Marymount truly is a ‘Legendary Community’. Fire up for ECA in 2015!

Congratulations to the following students who were selected or recently competed in
State competitions:

Emma de Broughe who has recently represented SA in the U15 girls Cricket team
which follows on from her selection in the SA U15 girls Hockey team earlier this year.
Staci McCudden who recently competed in the All School Games run by Athletics
SA, running the 1500m as a Marymount College representative.
Taylah Cooper who recently competed in the 2014 SSSSA Yr8/9 Golf Championships.
Leah Jones competed and won the 12-13 girls 5km Open Water State Swim.
Chloe Bennett competed and came 1st in the 1m Springboard Diving 14/15 age
category and 3rd in the 3m Springboard.
YEAR 6/7
Knockout Tennis
The Year 6/7 Tennis Knock out team consisted of Abbey Fosdike, Mia Romeo, Lauren
Manzie, Shania Kells and Sophie Goode (Reserve). Their first match was played at
Marymount against Brighton Primary School. Both teams were very evenly matched
and all girls played well to come away with a win 5 set to 1. The next round they were to
play was the very strong Immanuel College (Lleyton Hewitt’s old school!).
Unfortunately the girls were knocked out, defeated 5 sets to 1. The girls were very
competitive against this team and benefited against playing these highly-experienced
girls. Although the team were knocked out in Round 2, they had a great time developing
their tennis skills and playing with different people. They represented Marymount with
pride and showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the two matches.

Knockout Softball
The Year 6/7 Knockout Softball team had their first round match against Brighton
Primary School. The team played well for their limited experience and Anita Lewis
the coach was constantly supportive and encouraging to the girls.

YEAR 8/9
Knockout Basketball
8/9 Knockout Basketball team made it through to the finals day at Bearcats stadium.
The team had close matches on a hot day and ended up 4th. Impressive was the
effort and skills shown by the team.

Year 8/9 Knockout Basketball Coach
Knockout Tennis
The 8/9 Knockout Tennis team faced Brighton Secondary School and Unity College in
a three way round robin on Tuesday 21 October, at the Somerton Tennis Courts. On a
warm day, the team performed admirably starting with a defeat at the hands of the
girls from Brighton, but a victory against the team who travelled all the way from
Murray Bridge - Unity. With Brighton chalking up wins against both of their
opponents it spelt the end of the Marymount knockout tennis journey.
Congratulations to Charlie Thomas, Olivia Manzie, Siobhan Schulz, Eden van Balen
and Staci McCudden for their efforts and for the excellent sporting spirit displayed. Big
thanks to Sue Schulz for her generous and very welcome assistance with transport.
Darren Elliott
Supervisor subbing in for their regular coach, Kate Bawden.
Knockout Softball
The 8/9 Knockout Softball team faced Henley High, Waikerie and St Peters College
in a four way round robin knockout day here at Marymount College. With the
limited experience we have we knew it would be a battle for our girls to progress to
the next round. The girls played extremely well and to their credit never gave in. The
scores for the day were, St Peters 15 d Marymount 0, Henley 17 d Marymount 5 and
Marymount 15 d Waikerie 5. A big thanks to Anita Lewis the coach of the team for
her amazing efforts!

Knockout Volleyball
The 8/9 Knockout Volleyball team played in a tournament at the Marion Fitness and
Leisure Centre on Wednesday, 15 October. They won 3 out of the 4 games played
throughout the day against various schools. Although they did not win first place
and get into the next round, they showed excellent determination and good
sportsmanship.
