PART A: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Back in RY2011/2012, Rotaract Club of Subang (RAC Subang), RID3300 organized its own series of Professional
Development Talks. This idea was the brainchild of PDRR Sanjeev who suggested that the club organized such
professional development sessions to not only develop members but also to share, disseminate interest, knowledge and
expertise. This project was undertaken to enrich knowledge of the club members by having a presentation by each
member on a topic that they have extended knowledge and specializes on.
The Club continued these PD Series in RY2012/2013 and RY2013/2014 as all agreed that it was a good continuous
project and has served to be beneficial to all members and guests of the club. In addition, for this Rotary Year, we also
had outdoor sessions which involved external presenters on a self-defense workshop, a visit to a radio station as well as a
coffee appreciation class. From the time we started these PD Series, RAC Subang have had vocational talks spanning
across diverse range of topics compromising of the trading and distribution industry, importance of life insurance, network
marketing, addressing comprehensive sexuality education, travelling tips, property talk, benefits of learning a new
language and the art of flirting as well!
On top of this, we also continued our Goal Setting Project that was started back in RY2012/2013. The Goal Setting
projects aims to provide everyone with a long term vision and short term motivation. It is known fact that by having sharp,
clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals and raise your self-confidence,
as you recognize your own ability and competence in achieving the goals that you’ve set.
The series of Professional Development Sessions seeks to and has improved members public speaking and presentation
capabilities, a vital skill that is required in the workforce today. It has a great way of building self confidence and
enhancing one’s communication skills. From each presentation and session, knowledge is found, acquired and shared
with all and this has definitely shown that we each have a lot to offer from our own set of knowledge, skills and expertise.
PART B (1): OBJECTIVES
1. To expand members knowledge through the sharing of skills and expertise of others

PART D: PROJECT PLANNING
Before the new Rotary Year began, members were informed to indicate to the Professional Development Director
Belvinder on topics they would like to present. The club agreed that it was best that everyone took turns in presenting and
if a member had difficulties in selecting a topic, it would be chosen for them based on the table topics prepared. Everyone
was encouraged to look upon this as a good training platform for public speaking.
Professional Development Director will share with all on dates available to have their presentations which would be
conducted after the adjournment of a club meeting. Individuals interested to present are to indicate their topic of interest
and the date for their presentations and it would be booked on the club’s calendar. Similarly for our guest speakers, upon
their available dates, an agreed date would be decided.
When having a presentation, the club’s projector will be used to allow the presentation slides to be projected and the
presenter is to ensure that they bring their own laptop or borrow one to be used for their presentation purposes. Upon
completion of the presentation or a session, there would be Q&A session for the audience to obtain further clarifications
on the subject matter.
PART E: PROJECT EXECUTION
Professional Development being one of the most important avenues has a lot of emphasis to play in the development of
the members of a Rotaract Club. Through our Professional Developments Sessions below, we have gained much
knowledge.
Performers Without Borders by Rachel Peters and Andy
Rachel Peters an ex-Rotaractor from the Rotaract Club of Northern Suburbs Hobart, District 9830 Tasmania, Australia
and her boyfriend, Andy shared their experience working with UK based organization, Performers Without Borders. Both
of them teach performing arts mainly circus to children in Kolkata, India to help them build confidence, empowerment and
overcome social barriers.
Taekwando Self-Defense Workshop by Lee Jun Kit
This workshop was conducted by a friend, Lee Jun Kit who is one of the Top 16 Contender for the Malaysian Invasion
Mixed Martial Art (MIMMA). The workshop featured practical techniques and maneuvers to help individuals prevent,
control and/or escape potentially dangerous situations. Participants learned on techniques on how to avoid abduction and
rape, to defend oneself against attackers (including those physically larger or stronger) and control virtually any alarming
situation. We were also joined by the Rotaractors of the Rotaract Club of SEGi KL.
STAR Radio Group Visit
RAC Subang organized a visit to the STAR Radio Group located in Tropicana City Mall. There are a total of 4 radio
channels operating under the STAR Radio Group: 988 FM, RED FM, Capital FM and Suria FM. The participants learned
about the operations of a radio station including on how a broadcast operation is conducted along with all the necessary
facilities. They also got the opportunity to meet the famous DJ Rudy, DJ Jeremy and DJ Navster and a simple broadcast
demonstration was done for the participants to give them a better feel on the preparations required before and when they
go live-on-air.

Goal Setting
Setting goals gives any individual long term vision and short-term motivation. The objective of this project was to help
individuals identify their goals (short, mid and long-term). All would be required to share on their own goals and inform the
steps taken to achieve them. By having sharp, clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement
of those goals and raise your self-confidence, as you recognize your own ability and competence in achieving in the goals
that you’ve set. We would review them as a Club on a quarterly basis and share the journey in achieving the goals among
the attendees.
 Has the project focused on the Purpose of Rotaract as stated in the Rotaract Club Constitution, Article 2 – Purpose
and Goals; and how has this been achieved?
Yes. The goals that we are able to achieve are as follows:
1. To develop professional and leadership skills.
From choosing the topic of present, preparing the presentation slides up to presenting it to the club, members are
able to acquire and foster various professional skills such as communications skills, presentation skills, public
speaking and time management. Members have to ensure that not only their topic of presentation would be able
hold the interest of their audience, but also to be able to communicate their ideas clearly based and assess the
reaction of the listeners. In order to empower members with professional skills, RAC Subang encourages all
members to share based on their own experience, expertise and skills
2. To recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunity to serve
Members of RAC Subang are from different background and field of expertise. We all recognize that each individual
has a lot to offer from their own walks of life. Sharing from personal experience brings the audience closer to the
presenter as the presenter can relate and identify what would be most interesting and beneficial to input onto the
audience. We treat these series of Professional Development Talks to not only learn and gain more knowledge, but
to understand our members better as person from their presentation and their set of skills that they have to offer.
 Did the project achieved one or
more of the Rotaract Goals and how
has this been achieved?
Yes, refer above.
 Has the project managed to demonstrate and practise the Rotaract motto, “Fellowship Through Service”, Rotary motto
“Service Above Self” and Rotary Theme for this term; “Peace Through Service”? Please elaborate.
Yes. The willingness and volunteerisms by RAC Subang members to conduct a presentation for the benefit of others
certainly ties with Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self”. Through these vocational talks, members demonstrate and
practice Rotaract’s motto, “Fellowship Through Service” where they are given to opportunity to give service while at the
same time enjoying the fun, experience and fellowship of working with others.

Has the project manage to achieve any of the Rotary International focus eg. Education and Training, Literacy, Water
Management, Health, Hunger and Polio Eradication. Please provide supporting argument on this.
Yes. From the presentations conducted, all gained more knowledge on other industries as well as other skills that
could assist us in our personal lives and broaden our horizons which is aligned to one of Rotary International Focus –
education which can be gained from the sharing of experience from all members.
9
PART G: PROJECT IMPACT
On individual level, presenters of each vocational talk learnt and improved on their presentation skills. They also learned
on time management in ensuring their presentation are not draggy and are able to capture the interest of their audience.
They also learned on public speaking skills which will certainly benefit all in both classrooms and the workplace in
conveying ideas and presenting oneself.
On club level, both members and guests of RAC Subang have become closer. All members harness each other’s skills,
knowledge and experience for own self development. Through observation of the presentation, participants could use
some of the presentation skills as well manner of presentation for their own presentation purposes.
All professional development presentation were also recorded in our RAC Subang newsletter which is shared with our
sister club, RAC Manila (RID 3810) and our sponsoring Rotary Club of Subang as well as our RAC Subang Facebook
Page. The newsletters provide a medium for exchange of information and knowledge of all the vocational talks conducted.
