1 Latex for Paper Coating(styrene-butadiene copolymer)
2
ZEON Corporation markets for modified styrene-butadiene latex; and organic pigments coated paper such as art paper, light-weight
coated paper and lightly coated paper; coated paper board, such as coated white cardboard and coated Manila card-board; data
recording paper such as pressure-sensitive paper and thermal paper. We develop diverse latices utilizing new technologies in response
to the various needs of the market.
Major applications of Nipol SB latices are detailed in tables 2-1 to 2-6, while table 2-7 lists other typical applications, and are useful
references for selecting a specific latex.

5 Acrylate latex
Acrylate type latices are copolymerized alkylester acrylic acid and alkylester metacrylic acid, which are based on pure acrylic. These
latices are copolymerized with functional groups such as carbonic acid and monomers such as acrylonitrile and styrene. Major
applications are detailed in tables 5-1 to 5-4, while table 5-5 lists other typical uses, and are useful references for selecting a specific
latex.

Instructions for handling latex
Instructions for storing latex
Warning
* Detailed instructions for handling latex are provided in the Safety Data Sheet(SDS)published by ZEON Corporation.
〈Handling〉
1. Wear proper protection
(goggles, gloves,
safety shoes, and working uniforms).
If allowed to come into contact with the
eyes, latex may cause inflammation,
itching, or damage to the cornea.
Latex may cause inflammation or itching
if allowed to contact the skin.
2. Ventilation systems, hand washers and
eye washers are required.
(1)Latex are water soluble and are not volatile at
n o r m a l t e m p e r a t u r e s . H o w eve r, i f y o u
experience nausea from inhal-ing the odor of a
latex, move into a different room for fresh air.
3. Do not drain or discard latex into a river.
Do not try to clean or remove spilled
latex with water; this will only further
diffuse the latex.
Spilled latex are environmental pollutants
with harmful affects on animals, plants,
and drinking water.
Promptly contact the proper authorities
for an appropriate action in the event
latex and latex compounds leak into
restricted areas.
4. Exercise caution when handling latex in
unusual operations or conditions.
Instructions provided in this catalog are only intended for normal uses.
(2)If latex come into contact with the skin or the
eyes, wash the affected area thoroughly.
(3)If latex and latex compound are taken into your
mouth, rinse your mouth thoroughly and seek
professional assistance.
〈Storage〉
1. Store latex in tightly sealed containers.
Exposure to air may result in the formation of a film
or emulsion, or be decomposed by bacteria.
2. Store latex at tem-peratures between 5°C
~ 40°C.
Exposure to direct sunlight may cause the formation of film or alter the viscosity due to the high
temperatures.
Latex become unusable when frozen.
13
LATEX
3. Latex stored for long periods of time must
be stirred and filtered before use.
Stirring helps redistribute uneven, settled latex,
which have a large specific grav-ity. Filtering latex
break up coagulation, emulsion and films.
4. Containers for storing latex must always
be used.
When storing latex in con-tainers, other than those
originally supplied by the manufacturer, use
stainless steel with corrosion resistant glass or
resin linings.
