With the present guide we would like to give you an overview of the ”indicationspecific” uses of hydroactive dressings for chronic wounds and thus support you
systematically in your treatment decisions.
For the treatment of wounds in danger of infection
or infected wounds as well as for prophylaxis against
infections in chronic or acute wounds.
For treatment of superficial as well as heavily to moderately exudating wounds, particularly in sensitive or
previously damaged wound site and infected wounds in
combination with Atrauman Ag.
Simple application in patients with non-sensitive skin
thanks to self-adhesive border around the edges.
For treatment of decubitus in the sacral region.
For applications in the case of decubitus on heel and
elbow.
For treatment of deep wounds with practical folding
technique, also usable for infected wounds.
Using typical wound patterns, the guide shows different chronic wounds (decubital
ulcers, diabetic foot and ulcus cruris (leg ulcer)) in the various wound-healing stages
with the respective characteristics.

Wound cleansing (necrosis, infection and fibrin exudation)
Granulation
Epithelization
You can find further information in our Medical Editions:
These stages are further subdivided according to superficial and deep or fissured
wounds as well as the quantity of exudate produced and the respective condition of
the skin (intact or previously damaged peri-wound site).
– Diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the diabetic foot syndrome
– Compendium wounds and wound management
The classification of those hydroactive dressings that are likely to be best suited for
the management of a given wound at a particular stage in the healing process as
well as supplements for fixation and compression provide you with a sound basis for
decision-making during the whole duration of wound treatment.
– Phase-specific wound management of decubitus ulcer

epithelialisation phases.

Product overview
The guide is rounded off with useful application notes and a practical range of

For treatment of wounds in the epithelization stage and
burn wounds up to 2nd degree.

Chronic wounds, such as pressure sore (decubital ulcers), diabetic foot or ulcus cruris
(leg ulcer), are increasingly becoming a problem in daily caregiving routine. The often
difficult, lengthy treatments and the extra strain that is put on the patients caused by
the long lasting illness are a challenge for the specialized nursing and medical staff.

Pressure sore stages Decubitus*
Stage I:
Persistent, sharply defined area of reddening on intact skin.
Further indicative clinical signs may also include oedema formation, induration and local hyperthermia of the skin.
Stage II:
Partial loss of the skin. The epidermis as far as the dermis
(corium) is damaged. This is a superficial ulcer which results
from pressure damage and may manifest clinically as an
abrasion, blister or shallow crater.
Loss of all skin layers and damage to the subcutaneous tissue, which may extend as far as the fascia beneath the skin.
Clinically, the pressure ulcer looks like an open sore with or
without undermining of surrounding skin.
Loss of skin involving the entire skin thickness with
extensive tissue necrosis and damage to muscles, bones and
supporting structures (tendons, joint capsule).

Diabetic foot
Hydrosorb®
Diabetic foot syndromes are an ulceration or disintegration of tissue on the foot,
whose development is attributable to diabetic secondary diseases such as sensomotor
or autonomous neuropathy and/or peripheral occlusive arterial disease.
Properties:
Hydrosorb is a transparent hydrogel dressing made of polyurethane.
Benefits:
Optimum environment for cell migration thanks to the high water content of the
hydrogel dressing.
Granulation
Epithelisierung
Guarantees rest of the wound required for the formation of sensitive epithelial
tissue.
Wound documentation facilitated by transparency and the grid lines on the surface.

venous insufficiency (ulcus cruris venosum), disturbed blood circulation (ulcus cruris
arteriosum) or a combination of these factors (ulcus cruris mixtum).
Properties:
Sorbalgon is a dressing or tamponade composed of calcium alginate fibers. The
alginate fibers transform into a gel when they come into contact with the wound
secretion.
Benefits:
Granulation
Epithelization
Wound cleansing and secretion removal also in deep wounds.
Good draping quality thanks to loose compound of fibers.
Dressing change:
Sorbalgon is changed after complete transformation into the gel state.
