Message from the Director - Ken Schreffler
March 2016
This year March brings us spring and Easter, but March will still have
some chilly days, so come find warmth and good friends inside the
Center. As always, March will have something for everybody to do and
enjoy, including a St. Patty’s Day celebration. Don’t forget to move your
clocks ahead on March 13th for Daylight Savings Time!
The Downingtown Area Senior Center Board is proud to announce this
year’s Spring Fling Fundraiser, a Fabulous Oldies Dance Party featuring
the Geator with the Heater, Jerry Blavat, on April 9th! Mark it on your
calendars and let your friends know about this exciting event. Interested
sponsors should contact the Center, and any donations for our themed
raffle baskets will be appreciated.
Facility rentals are keeping the Center busy after closings. You are
welcome to join many of the activities that renters are bringing to the
Center. There are opportunities to exercise and engage your body, mind,
and spirit – just ask for a list of our weekly rental events!
Since January we have enjoyed new lunch meals by The Nutrition Group
from York, PA. The meals are delicious—come and have lunch with us.
Turn to page 12 for important lunch reservation information and the
March menu.

DASC is very grateful to Janice Tehie who has been working at the
center as our Volunteer Coordinator/Fund Developer. The grant that
covered her position has come to an end, and she is seeking a new
opportunity. We are sad to see her depart, and wish her all the best in
her future endeavors. She has made many friends here at the center and
she will be missed.

Circle of Care
Circle of Care is an inclusive, non-medical, social model program which supports seniors age 60 or
over (with exceptions on a case by case basis) whose independence is limited due to cognitive or
physical decline*.
Participants are encouraged to enjoy all Center programming including:
- Arts & Crafts
- Exercise
- Socialization
- Cards & Games
- Lunch
- Special Events
- Cognitive stimulation
- Music & Entertainment - Wii Games
Additionally, participants enjoy specialized activities that focus on their
present strengths and are monitored regularly to follow the individual’s
improvement or decline. The goal of the program is to prolong
independence. Research demonstrates that the social interaction, exercise
and cognitive stimulation that are found within the senior center and the
Circle of Care Program provide the means to that end.
* The program is not intended for those individuals who require delivery of medication,
personal hygiene care, or for those who present a wandering risk.
Circle of Care … providing gentle and compassionate guidance and care to those individuals who
require a more structured day, enhancing their overall senior center experience.

We Need Your Help!
We are fortunate to receive financial support from the Chester County Department of Aging
Services (CCDAS) helping enable us to offer you a diversity of programs and meals. As this is
taxpayer-funded revenue passed through from the state, we have an obligation to CCDAS to
present proof that we have spent these funds on programs for you and that you really do exist!
To do so, they ask that we fill out a NAT-E form for each participant.
If you have not yet completed the NAT-E form, or are unsure, see Angela, Mona, or Melissa
ASAP to complete the 10-15 minute online form. THANK YOU!!!
