The Blue Ribbon Committee of United Services
Welcomes You to Our
28th Annual Dinner Auction
Your participation tonight will help us brighten and enhance the
lives of children in our community!
What is United Services?
Our agency is a private, nonprofit organization focused on educating and supporting preschoolage children. We are recognized leaders in providing educational and therapeutic programs for
children with special needs and are nationally accredited to provide quality educational programs
to children of ALL abilities. Simply stated…
United Services is a leader in preparing children of all abilities to reach their full potential.
The hallmark of our programs is INCLUSION. Children with disabilities and typically developing
children play and learn together in the same classrooms. They see each other simply as friends
and classmates, regardless of their different abilities.
During the past 37 years, United Services has provided early intervention programs to thousands
of children, equipping them to succeed as they enter Kindergarten. But to really understand, you
have to see it for yourself. Come tour our two centers – 4140 Old Mill Parkway in St. Peters and
2025 Hanley Road in Dardenne Prairie. Walk through the halls and hear little ones singing and
laughing. See the learning taking place as our staff gives words of encouragement. You will leave
with a different outlook on your day, maybe your life!
28 Years of Blue Ribbon Committee Success
In 1984, a group of volunteers assembled to help financially
support United Services by organizing a small dinner
auction. Twenty-eight years later, the Blue Ribbon
Committee of United Services still works to provide
important financial support for the agency’s
programs and services.
Over the years, thanks to your support, the committee has raised more than $2 million for United
Services. Extraordinary! We owe a great debt of
gratitude to all committee members,
past and present, for their amazing
work.
Thank you to the 2012 Blue Ribbon
Committee for putting together
another fantastic event!

Silent Auction Guidelines
1. A bid sheet is located next to each auction item. The description of the
item is at the top of the bid sheet. Write in your bid number next to the
amount you would like to bid. Please note that bid amounts have already
been filled in.
2. Use only the bid number assigned to you; each couple attending will receive the same number. Please notify an auction volunteer if you plan to
sit at another table than that assigned to you.
3. The silent auction will be open for bidding at 6 p.m. Announcements will
be made that Silent Auction Section #1 will close at 7:30 p.m., Silent Auction Section #2 will close at 8:30 p.m., and Silent Auction Section #3 will
close at 9 p.m. Super Silent Auction Section #4 will close at 9:30 p.m.
4. At the close of the silent auction tables, the winning bidders will receive
one copy of the bid sheet and the bank will receive the other copy.
5. In the event of a dispute, auction officials shall be the final authority and
shall determine the winning bid.
“Makemake Pa”
This Hawaiian expression for Wishing Wall contains lots of items that will make
students’ wishes come true. Pick a flower from our display boards located in several places throughout the room and imagine how happy you will make a student. The items have been requested by staff to be used by our students in their
classrooms. Collect as many as you like, filling in the back with your bid number
and give to the attendant! We will add the item(s) to your total purchases for
the night. Our kids and staff send you their thanks!
“Wikiwiki” Check-Out
The “speedy” island way to expedite your check out this evening, you may
prepay for your purchases using your MasterCard or Visa. Simply stop by the
registration desk before 7:30 p.m. and the cashier will imprint your credit card
and have you sign the transaction slip. At the end of the auction you need only
pick up any items you have purchased which may not have been delivered to
your table before leaving. A printed receipt of your purchases and the amount
charged to your credit card will be mailed to you the following week.

Oral Auction Guidelines
1. In order to enter a bid, the bidder must raise his or her number high and attract the attention of the auctioneer or the spotter. This must be repeated
each time a bid is initiated or increased. Each bid legally obligates the bidder
to pay the bid price in full if his or her bid is deemed the high bid at the fall
of the auctioneer’s gavel. The auction will be fast-paced, so be prepared at
all times.
2. Payment by the successful bidder shall be made only after the oral auction
has been completed. Payment may be made by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard. Payment in full that evening is mandatory.
3. “GOING TOGETHER” TO BUY AN ITEM: One bidding number must be used.
The bill for that item will be assigned to the individual with that number.
Payment in full is expected from that person. That person, not United Services, must collect from all others involved.
4. ALL SALES ARE FINAL AND THERE WILL BE NO EXCHANGES OR REFUNDS ON
ITEMS EXCEPT WHERE SPECIFIED.
5. Items may be removed that evening only by exhibiting a paid receipt at the
time of departure.
6. Values set forth opposite the items being auctioned are Donor’s estimates
and are NOT GUARANTEED by United Services for tax purposes or for general
value.
7. United Services has endeavored to catalog and describe the items and services correctly; however, everything is sold “as is”. Certain auction items and/
or services may have restrictions and other qualifications which may affect
value, application or use thereof to the bidder. Many items such as vacation
homes and condos are nontransferable. Purchasers are bound by the precise
restrictions specified by the donors. The terms are not negotiable. Please
read carefully the specifications and limitations.
8. United Services makes no express or implied warranties or representations of
any kind or nature with respect to the property or services and, in no event,
shall it be responsible for the correct description of the property or services
as stated in the program booklet, at the sale or on the auction contract. The
buyer waives any claims of liability against United Services or donor.

ENDOWMENT FOR UNITED SERVICES
WHAT IS AN ENDOWMENT?
The dictionary’s definition includes words like
…DONATION, LEGACY, GIFT…
Quite simply, an endowment is an investment in the future.
The Endowment for United Services was created in 2002 to ensure the long term financial
viability of the agency and the children we serve.
A gift made TODAY to the Endowment can be through various forms - cash, appreciated
stock or real estate to name a few.
A PLANNED GIFT is passed on to the Endowment after your death. Some common examples
of gifts include a bequest in your will, designating the Endowment as beneficiary of a life
insurance policy, a charitable remainder trust or a gift annuity.
Proceeds from tonight’s auction item #24 will help us reach the $1 million milestone for
the Endowment. Revenues generated from the investment of contributions are available
to support the agency mission in the future.
United Services has a long and treasured history of serving thousands of children in St.
Charles County because so many have generously and selflessly given to support the
agency over the past 37 years. Your contribution to the Endowment will help ensure that
United Services will be here to assist future generations for many years to come.
Thank You for your support!
For more information on the Endowment for United Services,

What happens when
you believe everything is possible?
There are no bridges
between you and the
very best medical care.
Your St. Charles County SSM Health Care hospitals – St. Joseph Health Center
in St. Charles and St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis – are home to the
SSM Heart Institute, SSM Cancer Care, SSM Breast Care, the SSM Center for Sleep
Disorders, and are accredited Chest Pain Centers. We partner
with SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center to provide
pediatric emergency services at both locations and inpatient
pediatric care in Lake Saint Louis.
In St. Charles, we are the only hospital in Missouri to achieve the
highest award for stroke care from the American Stroke Association.
We are striving in every way to deliver the best care and best results for our patients,
which means the very best medical care isn’t across the bridge. It’s all right here. To
find an SSM doctor who’s right for you, call 1.866.SSM.DOCS.

Cuivre River Celebrates
Community Partnerships
The Cuivre River Electric Community Trust Board administers funds Cuivre River members donate through Operation Round Up. Trustees include, from left, Don Schappe,
Nancy Matheny, Dan Elliott, Melba Houston, Bob Hall, Elise Homeyer and Jim Pitman.
Cuivre River Electric Cooperative and United Services have a special partnership made possible by Cuivre River’s 59,000 members and the cooperative’s community outreach program, Operation Round Up. Cooperative members round up
their electricity payments 1¢ to 99¢ each month to fund the Cuivre River Electric
Community Trust and help their neighbors. Since the program began in 1997, those
pennies have totalled more than $3 million dollars.
Community Trust volunteers have the daunting task of putting those pennies to
work. With help from community partners like United Services, many of these pennies can help meet the needs of special children and their families.
Thank you, United Services, for your service,
your partnership, and your devotion to the families
we are both committed to serve.
