Products
Variety from acetylene to xenon
• Messer offers a wide variety of gases – liquefied or gaseous and
in numerous degrees of purity.
• Air gases, such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon and other noble
gases, are obtained directly from the ambient air by means of air
separation.
• Other gases are obtained from industry as a “by-product”
(carbon dioxide) or from natural sources (helium).
• Hydrogen and acetylene are chemically produced.
• Messer provides many different standard and individual gas
mixtures.
Messer 26 - 2014
Gases for welding and cutting
Shielding gases for welding are sold under the same
proprietary names across the group, and these names are
based on the materials being worked:
• Ferroline - for plain and low-alloy steels
• Inoxline - for high-alloy steels and Ni-based alloys
• Aluline - for aluminium and non-ferrous metals
Other gases for welding and cutting:
• Forming gas protects the back of the weld against
oxidation
• Lasline - for laser material processing and for generating
the laser beam
• Nitrocut and Oxycut - gases for laser cutting
• Fuel gases - for oxy-fuel technology
Messer 27 - 2014
Gases for the food Industry
Gourmet is the name under which Messer supplies pure gases
and gas mixtures for the food industry.
• Gourmet gases meet the highest quality standards.
• Gourmet gases satisfy all the European legal provisions on food as
well as every HACCP requirement (Hazard Analysis and Critical
Control Points).
Some examples:
• Gourmet C: Carbon dioxide
e.g. for carbonating beverages
• Gourmet N: Nitrogen
e.g. for freezing, refrigerating and packing food
• Gourmet O: Oxygen
e.g. for packing fresh salads
• Gourmet A: Argon
e.g. for inerting to protect wine
Messer 28 - 2014

Gases for the pharmaceutical industry
Pharmaline - the gas range for the pharmaceutical industry
Messer's Pharmaline program includes specially tested gases that are
geared to the needs of the pharmaceutical industry and are intended to
help manufacturers of medicinal products to comply with the stipulations
of EU Directive 2001/83 and adhere to the GMP (good manufacturing
practice) guidelines.
Messer bases the manufacture of Pharmaline products on the latest
IPEC 1 guidelines and EXCiPACTTM 2 standards.
The most important gases and applications:
• Pharmaline A: Argon (AR) - used, for example, as an inert
atmosphere
• Pharmaline C: Carbon dioxide (CO2) - used, among other things, for
the production of pharmaceutical products in powder form
• Pharmaline N: Nitrogen (N2) - used, for example, for packaging in a
protective atmosphere
There are many more diverse applications for gases in the
pharmaceutical industry in addition to those listed above.
1 IPEC - International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council, The Joint IPEC – PQG Good Manufacturing
Practices Guide for Pharmaceutical Excipients, 2006.
2 EXCiPACTTM - a voluntary international certification scheme, Certification Standards for Pharmaceutical
