Rights catalogue 2016
Founded in 1985, XYZ publishes nearly 25 fiction
and nonfiction titles a year, and many of its authors,
both Quebecois and Canadian, have been honoured
with prestigious literary prizes. Jocelyne Saucier’s last
novel, Il pleuvait des oiseaux, was critically acclaimed
and has now been translated into several languages.
Anabiose (translated into English by House of Anansi
under the title Captive) by Claudine Dumont was
a breakout success last year, and her second novel,
La petite fille qui aimait Stephen King, came out in
September. The book will also be published in Italy
(La Corte Editore) very soon.
Depuis 1985, les Éditions XYZ publient environ
25 titres par an, tant des ouvrages de fiction que des
essais, et plusieurs de leurs auteurs ont été couronnés
de nom­b reux prix littéraires et d’honneurs. Le
dernier roman de Jocelyne Saucier, Il pleuvait des
oiseaux, a reçu un accueil critique des plus favorables
et est maintenant traduit dans une dizaine de pays.
Anabiose, de Claudine Dumont, a été pour la maison
un immense coup de cœur et c’est avec fierté qu’elle
a publié à l’automne le deuxième titre de l’auteure,
La petite fille qui aimait Stephen King, bientôt traduit
en italien chez La Corte Editore.

Grandpa and the Moon comes out of a collision between the universe of
STÉPHANIE LAPOINTE, well-known Québécois singer, author, and actress,
and that of ROGÉ, one of the most gifted illustrators of his generation and
recipient of many awards, including the prestigious New York Times Award
(2014), for the English translation of his book Haïti mon pays (My Homeland
Haïti).
Quand c’est sa candidature qui est retenue au populaire concours-de-qui-ira-sur-la-Lune, la

FREDRIC GARY COMEAU has recorded four critically acclaimed albums
and penned fifteen collections of poetry, including Ravages (Émile-Nelligan
Poetry Prize finalist) and Souffles (Governor General Prize finalist). His novel
Vertiges, released in 2013, was enthusiastically received and earned him the
Jacques-Cartier Prize for a French-language novel or short story.

MONOGAMIES

In 1973, Dolly Parton wrote a song about the hopelessness of a woman afraid
of losing her husband to a pretty redheaded bank employee named Jolene.
This song, titled Jolene, has become a country classic, and has been covered
by bands such as The White Stripes and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.
Today in Montréal, Jolène, a petite brunette music lover, finds herself with
this name, Frenchified by the accent but sung and sung again all the same,
and so maliciously linked to the vagaries of Dolly Parton’s love life forever.
Newly single, Jolène is not looking for love with a capital L, but rather a
relationship with a capital R. Most of all she is, with the help of her faithful
friends, asking herself many questions about the limitations of monogamy…
JOLÈNE RUEST studied Comedic Creation at the National School of
Humour. She is now a host and programming assistant for the radio station
CISM. Jolène points out that, despite the fancy title, it’s just a gig… and that:
“In twenty-four years of existence, I’ve done a few things that aren’t half-bad,
but that doesn’t sound so good on paper.”

Comédienne, JOLÈNE RUEST a étudié à l’École Nationale de l’humour en création humoristique. Elle est maintenant animatrice à CISM et adjointe de la programmation. Jolène précise
que, malgré le beau titre, ça reste une jobine... et que : « En vingt-quatre ans d’existence, je
trouve que j’ai fait une coup’ d’affaires popires, mais sur papier, ça sonne moyen. »

Algerian-born journalist Aziz Farès attempts to understand what it is that
tipped the placid but vibrant Québec society towards confrontation with
Islam. We are speaking here of a bloody Islam, stained by the aggressive acts
of individuals who claim to be guardians of the Quranic word.
Can democracy emerge unscathed from a battle that seems already lost?
Contrary to what our Prime Minister argues, fundamentalism cannot be a “free
choice” for the simple reason that there is no choice for the millions of people
who “must” conform to the strict rules imposed by their ethnic or religious
group. Pretending we can mollify it by ignoring it reveals a worrisome naiveté.
With this book, the author helps us to understand Islam by restoring it to its

AZIZ FARÈS est né à Alger et vit à Montréal. Auteur, journaliste, producteur pour la radio et
la télévision, il a travaillé pour Radio Canada International et la Radio Télévision Algérienne.
Il collabore actuellement avec le quotidien Le Soir d’Algérie. Passionné de spiritualité vivante
et d’études soufies, il est l’auteur de deux ouvrages parus en Algérie en 2009, La tangente
impossible et J’ai failli égarer Dieu.

collaborating with the daily paper Le Soir d’Algérie. Passionate about living
spirituality and Sufi studies, he is the author of two works released in Algeria
