Employee of the Month
April 2015
Laura Denenholz
Our April Employee of the Month is Laura
Denenholz. Laura has worked at the Athenaeum
for a little over a year and this is her first time
being honored as Employee of the Month.
Pasadena born and raised, Laura graduated
from Claremont McKenna College in 2011
with a B.A. in Psychology. Prior to working
at the Athenaeum, Laura worked for a local
medical office, where she developed her skills
in web design and social media marketing.
Laura is our Membership & Guest Relations
Coordinator, where she assists members with
their reservations and updates their membership
account as needed. She is also responsible for
putting together The Update each month, and
maintaining the club website. Laura enjoys the
wide variety of tasks she performs every day
and the opportunity to work with many of the
Athenaeum’s amazing staff members.
When not at work, Laura enjoys riding
American Saddlebred horses, improving her
cooking skills, and spending time with friends
and family.
(Marisu’s Message Corner)
We all know that summer is here when the Rath al Fresco
(RAF) opens. Every year, members anxiously await the opening
of the RAF with some members relishing daily what the al Fresco
offers. On Friday, May 22, the long-awaited opening did not
disappoint. Chef Kevin and his culinary team were ready for
the crowds. A real crowd pleaser was the BBQ Buffet Express with an offering of
entrees, sides, an ice cream sundae and iced tea and countless visits back to the
buffet. The lobster roll, an old favorite, was back on the menu along with the
beer can chicken, fire-grilled fresh artichoke, and the Southwest and Mediterranean
Platters for big parties. Of course, the bar was also busy with bartender Mike
Echevarria mixing up pitchers of his best mojito and Food & Beverage Director
Jerry Rodriguez offering a great selection of beers and wines by the glass. If you have not experienced the Rath al Fresco, there is no time to waste. Bar opens at 5:00 p.m. and no reservations required. Come and join the fun!
More celebrations come in June when Caltech graduates receive their
baccalaureate and doctorate degrees on the 12th. On the 4th of June, Caltech
honors all employees who have worked at the Institute ten years or more. At the
club, the 25-year honorees are Samir Abi-Rached and Rene Velado and the 20-year
honorees are Jose Cervera, Ever De La Torre, Ramiro De La Torre, Dexter Jeremiah,
and Luis Mendoza.
June is also the month of anticipation. Lobster Night, another member favorite,
is scheduled on Friday, June 26. I can almost taste that very tender and very
juicy lobster meat from that two-pounder. Make your reservation early as this is
always a sell-out event.
“Magic” is the theme of our first Family Barbecue scheduled on Monday, June
29. Time to bring the family, young and old alike, to see those magic tricks.
I look forward to seeing you all at The Athenaeum. Please drop by my office
when you are next at the club. Or, hope to see you at the Rath al Fresco.
Congratulations, Laura, on a job well done!
