Vision:
As President of the Lynch’s Landing Board of Directors, I’d like
to thank the many organizations and individuals who contributed to the
enormous success we experienced in 2010. The year was
especially exciting with the dedication of Riverfront Park, the inauguration
of Winter Cheers, and an Award of Merit for Business Development,
Promotion, and Marketing from the Virginia Downtown Development
Association for our Get!Downtown campaign. The heat wave over the
summer resulted in record-breaking crowds at Friday Cheers™, as
folks came out to enjoy the cool breezes drifting off the James River.
As always, our Holiday Traditions activities closed the year in style!

and events can
be successful.
None of this would have been possible without our dedicated staff who
worked tirelessly throughout the year to plan, coordinate and execute
these programs and events. We also benefited from the
continued support of Lynchburg City Council and city staff, our
long-time committed partners in downtown revitalization.
Downtown was the
place to be in
2010
I am confident that 2011 will be another banner year for downtown
Lynchburg. I invite you to join with us as we revitalize, and energize,
the downtown area for the benefit of all.

National Main Street is a program sponsored through the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Its Four-Point Approach is a comprehensive
strategy for revitalizing downtown and neighborhood business districts. Lynch’s Landing was accepted into the Virginia Main Street program in 2000,
and we have utilized the Four-Point Approach® since that time. Our efforts were recognized in 2006 when we received The Great American Main
Street Award. Each year, Lynch’s Landing develops a comprehensive workplan, creating action items for each of these four areas of concentration:

PROMOTION
We strive to create
a positive image of
the commercial
district and encourage
everyone to live, work,
shop, play and invest in
downtown. Our signature
events bring tens of
thousands of people
to downtown. Lynch’s
Landing also
provides marketing
support to
downtown businesses.

DESIGN
ECONOMIC RESTRUCTURING
Having an aesthetically
pleasing downtown is essential to revitalization.
We have many programs designed to keep Main Street in
top physical shape, including
facade grants for renovations
and historic preservation,
Winter Lights and seasonal
street banners. We also
provide input to the city
and help keep the
community informed of
capital projects.
To be permanent,
revitalization must
strengthen downtown’s
existing assets while diversifying
its economic base. The four
points of the Main Street
approach correspond with
the four forces of real estate
value, which are social,
political, physical, and
economic. Investment in
downtown over the past
ten years has
been significant.

I often return to Lynchburg, and I'm always
amazed to see downtown's latest developments. It's
obvious that City Council and many businesses and
residents are working together to promote a downtown that has a lot to offer Lynchburg citizens and
visitors alike. Downtown's revitalization is an example
of what can happen when a common vision is created
and everyone has ownership of it.

Downtown Awards
Lynch’s Landing was honored to have the Honorable Preston Bryant,
Chairman of the National Planning Commission, featured as our
keynote speaker at our Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting is also
the time that Lynch’s Landing recognizes the best of the best, from
the leading new business and projects to our most dedicated

‘Feet on the Street!’ That’s the goal and Lynch’s Landing
draws thousands of visitors to downtown Lynchburg each
year to participate in events. With the addition of two new
events, downtown was the place to be in 2010!
Friday CheersTM
Friday Cheers kicked off its 18th season at the brand
new Riverfront Park. This signature event, known as
the ‘Party with a Purpose’, paid dividends to downtown non-profit organizations of $10,000 in 2010,
while also drawing more than 20,000 visitors to our
historic riverfront.
Winter Cheers
Following on the success of Friday Cheers, this new
winter concert series drew more than 2,200 people
to downtown for a warm respite during the cold
winter months.
Easter Bunny at the Galleria
Families are helping downtown thrive once again, and
more than 100 families turned out to greet the Easter
Bunny at the Galleria and have their pictures taken
with him.
GET!DOWNTOWN
More than 11,000 people filled the streets at the second annual GET!DOWNTOWN festival, proving
that downtown is the place to be. As a tribute to its
success, the festival received an Award of Merit from
the Virginia Downtown Development Association.
Diva Crawl
Formerly known as “Girls Night Out,” we spiced up
this year’s event and attracted more than 500
“Divas” to downtown for shopping at more than
50 participating businesses followed by an after-party
at the Craddock Terry Hotel.
Holiday Traditions
Welcoming hundreds of downtown visitors each
December, Holiday Traditions offers horse-drawn
carriage rides, shopping at the Mistletoe Market, and
visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as the Grinch.
It’s a time honored way to enjoy Downtown
Lynchburg during the holiday season.
