Thanks for your support to the PSA Campaign! There are more than 640
pledges amounting $208,935.48, of that $75,664.25 has been paid. Once the
Parish PSA contributions to the 2016 PSA is paid ($122,000.00), the remaining pledges fulfilled will be rebated to us
for our beautification and safety enhancement efforts. Pledge envelopes and brochures may be obtained at the
back of the church in the brochure holders or at the parish office.

Dear Parishioners of St. Pius V Catholic Church,
For the past 10 months, I have been blessed to become acquainted with you. I have also had the opportunity to
become well acquainted with the staff and students of our parish school. A Catholic educa on is a vital part of our
faith and I would like to take this opportunity to share my thoughts on Catholic educa on.
Our Chris an faith is a fundamental part of our iden es – you would not be here if that were not true. Strong
faith cannot be built and sustained by prac cing simply one or two hours a week. It must be lived, experienced and
prac ced each and every day in order to become firmly rooted and grow to sustain us throughout our lives, in
prepara on for the eternal lives we seek with our Father.
No one bears the weight of this more heavily than parents. They are responsible not only for their lives but for the
lives of their children as well. This is a daun ng task, especially considering that children today are growing up
surrounded by technology that provides unprecedented and immediate access to informa on and social influences
that are o en not aligned with parental values.
This is one reason that Catholic schools are vital to our community. Our parish school is an extension of St. Pius V
Church and was established, and con nues to exist today, to help fulfill our Church’s mission to spread the teachings
of Jesus Christ and con nue His work. The faculty and staff of the school are entrusted with providing each child faith
forma on in a challenging and rigorous academic se ng in order to help all students fulfill the mission of the
Catholic Church.
In our Catholic school, students see Jesus and God as a natural part of their lives – all day and every day. They
pray o en, for themselves and for others, and set their moral compasses to the highest calling – to serve others as
Jesus did. While learning the skills and knowledge to be produc ve and successful adults in this life me, they are
anchored in the knowledge and skills that prepare them for the eternal life.
Children are not the only benefactors of a Catholic educa on. By par cipa ng in school events and ac vi es,
including everything from morning prayer to interscholas c sports, en re families build life-long friendships based on
their shared Catholic values. Through this type of community-building, our parish and our world community are
strengthened.
St. Pius V School is not a private school – it is a parochial school. There is a sharp dis nc on between the two. A
private school is independent and is responsible for its own welfare. Private schools are financed primarily by the
tui on charged for each student. The private school model says, “If you can afford the tui on, you are welcome to
join us.”
A parochial school, on the other hand, is not independent and does not stand alone. Our school does the work of
the parish for the parish, to support families by helping to raise children in the Catholic faith.
All families at St. Pius V Church have a right to help their children grow in the ways of our faith by sending their
children to St. Pius V School, regardless of their financial resources. Yes, families pay tui on at SPV, but the tui on
amount does not cover the costs of running a successful school. As members of the Catholic community, it is the
responsibility of all of us in the parish to ensure that the school is financed well enough to con nue our Church’s
mission.
In the up-coming weeks, I will con nue to talk about our school – a school of which we can all be proud. I will talk
about our two-year kindergarten program for students ages 4 and 5; our grade school program, for students in
grades 1 through 5; and our middle school program for students in grades 6 through 8.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our principal, Mrs. Sandy Lewis, our assistant principal, Mrs.
Marianne Hatherill, and the faculty and staff who dedicate themselves to the students and families of St. Pius V
Catholic School. Their work prepares the young members of our parish to become the future leaders of our parish
and our world.

POSITION’S OPEN:
ST. PIUS V PARISH AND SCHOOL DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRY AND INSTRUCTOR
Position Summary: St. Pius V Catholic Parish and School seeks a dynamic, passionate and well versed music director
with experience working with diverse populations and age groups. The ideal candidate will have expertise in
pastoral and liturgical music, combined with creativity to serve all music ministries and enhance St. Pius V worship.
We seek an individual who holds specialized credentials in music or is currently working in a credentialing program
and has experience in the coordination and direction of church Choirs. He / She must have a thorough
understanding of Catholic liturgy, possess proficient voice and organ/piano skills, as well as good organizational
abilities. The Director of Music Ministry will be responsible for developing and implementing vocal, bell and other
music programs that will be integrated with the school curriculum. They will work with and schedule cantors,
accompanists, volunteer choir leaders and choir members of all ages.
DIRECTOR OF FAITH FORMATION
St. Pius V church in Buena Park seeks an individual of faith, vision and knowledge to take a leadership role in the
establishment, formation and execution of the cradle to grave Faith Formation Ministry for our large multi-cultural
community. The candidate should hold a Master’s degree in Theology, Pastoral theology, Catechetics, Youth
Ministry or Religious Studies. Have strong organizational skills, with the ability to recruit and delegate. The focus is
to bring all ages to a closer understanding and involvement as part of the Body of Christ. The successful candidate
will have strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively and work with a variety of
constituents, including children, and will treat all with respect and compassion. Bi-lingual skills (English-Spanish) are
needed.
PART-TIME RECEPTIONIST
We are taking applications and interviewing for a part-time receptionist position. Candidate will be bi-lingual
(English – Spanish), have thorough knowledge of phone and office protocols and an understanding of Catholic
Church teachings. Duties will include greeting and assisting people coming to the parish office, answering phones
and directing callers to appropriate personnel or taking messages. Assisting with all office work including data entry,
copying and shredding, assisting the parish ministries, Mass intentions, cash receipts and other duties as required.
Good verbal and written communication skills are critical along with the ability to maintain confidentiality in all
