Sikorsky Aircraft Shares History and Vision at
HeliRussia 2013
Submitted by Stan Prusinski, Sikorsky Sales, Europe
MOSCOW, Russia – Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. highlighted its 90th
anniversary as well as the 100th anniversary of the “Le Grand,” during the
HeliRussia trade show held May 16-18.
Most people don’t know that Igor Sikorsky, before being forced to flee
Russia after the Revolution of 1917, had already built a four-engine aircraft
that made its maiden voyage in 1913. This is amazing because he took the
technology so far, so quickly after the Wright Brothers’ first flight.
During the HeliRussia trade show, Vadim Miheev, the authoritative
biographer of Igor Sikorsky, drew a large crowd for his 15-minute technical
presentation on the history, development, and flights of the Grand. The
presentation was particularly memorable
In This Issue because Igor Sikorsky had been lauded by
Emperor Nicholas II when the emperor visited

Sikorsky family. Following Miheev’s presentation, Sergei Sikorsky, Igor’s
son, delivered a presentation commemorating the 90th anniversary of
Sikorsky Aircraft.
In addition to the popular presentations, Sikorsky Aircraft personnel
hosted static display demonstrations of the new Rig Approach feature now
available on S-92® helicopters. General Directors of some of Russia’s biggest
aviation firms visited the booth to observe the demo and learn about this
latest technology development by Sikorsky.
Also of great interest to visitors and customers was the news that Sikorsky
Aircraft is moving forward on certification in Russia of the S-92 and, later,
the S-76D™ helicopter. Attendance at the Sikorsky booth was very strong,
and indeed, we were several times
overwhelmed by real customers

China’s CITIC Offshore
Helicopter Company
to Acquire
Two S-92 Helicopters
®
Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. announced during the Paris Air
Show that it has signed a contract with China’s CITIC Offshore
Helicopter Company (COHC) for two S-92® helicopters to be
used for the offshore oil transportation mission.
Established in 1983, COHC is a publicly traded company
based in Shenzhen, Guandong, China. It is the largest
provider of offshore operations in China. The contract was
signed on May 10 in China and announced during the
Paris Air Show.
“The offshore oil market in China is growing rapidly,
and the S-92 helicopter has proven to be a reliable and safe
performer in many locations around the world, including
China, where Sikorsky products are now being operated by
all three major offshore oil service providers,” said Robert
Kokorda, Sikorsky Vice President of Sales & Marketing.
“COHC is one of the newest customers for Sikorsky Aircraft,
but we are focused on providing them with world-class
products and support, and are confident that this marks the
beginning of a long-term relationship between us.”
Sikorsky plans to deliver the new S-92 helicopters in
December 2014 and March 2015.
Sikorsky S-76D Helicopter
Achieves Certification in Mexico
™
STRATFORD, Conn. – Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. recently announced that the S-76D™
helicopter has been awarded Type Certification by Mexico’s civil aviation authority, the
Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil (DGAC).
The S-76D helicopter is the newest product from Sikorsky Aircraft. The Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) awarded Type Certification of the S-76D model in October 2012,
and the helicopter continues its envelope expansion as the first models move through final
modifications for customer deliveries in 2013.
“Mexico is a growing market for Sikorsky. We have quintupled the total number of Sikorsky
helicopters in the military, paramilitary, and commercial markets there in the last five years,
and this co-validation of the S-76D helicopter by the Mexican DGAC, paves the way for
further growth of our commercial business there,” said Carey Bond, President of Sikorsky
Global Helicopters. “As PEMEX expands its offshore oil exploration, we are confident that
the fleet of S-76D helicopters servicing this work will grow proportionately.”
