Is there a “RIGHT” structure
to drive multi-platform sales?
Senior Digital Advertising Manager,
Tampa Bay Times and tampabay.com
Maryann Balbo is the senior digital advertising
manager for the Tampa Bay Times and its website,
tampabay.com.
Maryann spent 14 years in the broadcast and
cable business. She started as a master control
operator and has worked in a variety of roles,
including broadcast engineer, producer, program
director, marketing manager, and community and
sales director.
Before joining the Times in 2009, Maryann was
the director of sales, marketing and community
relations at NBC 17 in Raleigh, N.C. where she led
the development of the broadcast’s first innovative
hyper local website, MyNC.com. She also led a
team of web-only sellers and initiated a pro-active
approach to community-generated content from
a team of seven community content liaisons, and
managed the marketing department for the web.
Maryann also served in a variety of marketing
and sales leadership roles at Disney-owned and
operated WTVD-ABC in Durham, N.C. and Time
Warner Cable/AOL in Raleigh, N.C.
Maryann grew up in Watertown, N.Y. and
attended General Brown High School and SUNY
Cortland.
In 2011, Maryann was a finalist for the
Business Woman of the Year, awarded by the
Tampa Bay Business Journal, and she was featured
on the cover of Target Marketing Magazine. She is

the former vice president of American Women in
Radio and TV and past president of the Wakefield
Business Alliance. Maryann has spent much of her
career actively involved in industry organizations
at the state and national level, and she is a frequent
public speaker presenting on media and digital.
Outside the office, Maryann and her husband
live in Tampa with their very active toddler, Mason.
Most of her personal time is devoted to trying to
keep up with her “way-too-smart” little boy, her
hubby and their two Australian Shepherds.
Jon, her husband, works at a local broadcast
station, and the media couple
frequently competes in the professional world.
However, Maryann likes to remind him she works
for the Florida’s largest newspaper ... and she
usually wins.
