2.0 Installation Notes and Warranty
Please read completely through the instructions before beginning. There are several methods possible to attach
the ballast power wiring and each depends on the type of car you are working with. You need to read through the
instructions and make a choice before beginning that wiring. Please contact us if you have questions before
continuing.
The product will require patience, skill, and attention to detail to install, but it is doable by the average person
capable of changing their own oil. Another person is recommended for some steps. Once installed, the rings are
durable enough to withstand the rigors of street driving. The mounting system and installation procedures are
designed to ensure that the rings resist vibration or jarring. However, the rings are susceptible to breakage on
Do not attempt to flex, bend or put pressure on the ring itself. They
can shatter and like any lamp may result in flying glass if broken. Eye protection
installation.
is recommended when handling the rings. The product contains small amounts of the chemical Mercury, if broken
do not blow the debris away or inhale the powder. Quickly, wipe up any debris with a damp paper towel or cloth
and dispose of it. Handle the rings with care until they are installed inside of the bezel of the headlights and they
will provide years of trouble free operation. The products life span is over 20,000 hours of operation.
These procedures assume that you are familiar with your headlights and or automobile wiring methods and have
previously made power connections to the automobile’s wiring harness. If not, please refer to your DDE
Lightning™ dealer for assistance as required.
Umnitza warrants the normal operation (as defined in the Terms and Conditions set forth on our site). of this
system for 30 days.

Each product will contain the following parts: hardware and supply bags. Additionally, each product application
will have parts specific to it. Please see below for details.
ALTIMA - Standard Rings (Smaller and Larger Diameter), Wiring Harness, Ballasts, Assorted Parts)
Depending on installation techniques, some components may be left over or simply do not apply to your
application. Where possible this is noted. For instance, if you choose to use t-taps for your system to power the
product, you will not require the shrink wrap in your kit, however if you solder, you will. Other items may also be
left over. If you follow the installation instructions and have left over supplies,
DON’T PANIC. You may have more parts than necessary.
Product Pictured Includes:
4 Rings (E46 Applications Will Include Mounting Hardware on Rings)
1 hardware kit
2 Power Ballasts (black)
Contents of the hardware kit
8 Tie wraps
4 Black Wiring Connectors
2 Shrink Wrap Tubes
4 Add-a-Tap connectors
4.0 PRETEST PROCEDURES - MUST BE PERFORMED PRIOR TO INSTALLATION
Pre-Installation Checklist
When performing the initial pretest, please be careful with the rings of the product. Make sure to lay out all the
product contents so that all the wires are untangled and are not within a close proximity of objects that may
damage them (i.e. heavy tools, falling debris, etc.).
Locate the black ballast (the one with the red and black lead coming out from one side, and the 4 white leads
ending into connectors on the other side). Because your rings have been pre-connected with the appropriate
pins for you, please take each pair of pins from the ring and insert them directly into the plug-and-play
connectors with the white wires running into them. Repeat this with the second ring.
Carefully carry the rings over to your positive battery terminal. Take the negative lead, and connect to a ground
point (solid metal), and the red lead to the positive terminal. At this point, both rings should light up. If they do
not, then you have not correctly connected the product OR you may have not completely touched a good ground
point.
Repeat this with the other two rings with the second black ballast. If all the rings light up (as they should), then
you do not have any defects in the product and you may proceed to the section specific to your car.
5.0 Installation Procedure - ALTIMA
Begin Installation - Identify Headlight
The headlight shown below is indicative of almost all 2002-2004 headlights found in North America. If you are
unfamiliar with the various parts of the back of the headlight, either consult your owner's manual, your
neighborhood Nissan dealer, or someone that is familiar with these items.
Step 1 - Removing Bumper & Headlights
Detach fender guards by removing pushpins located in the wheel-well. Remove screws under the center mudguard. Locate and remove the 2 bolts
holding the front fascia to the bumper. Remove the 5 pushpins under the front fascia. Detach the grill by removing the 4 pushpins.
Remove 4 bolts holding the headlights in place. When removing the headlight, the screws are threaded to 10mm nuts underneath. To ensure that one
does not lose the nuts, place your hand under the screws to be able to hold onto them after all the threads are completely unscrewed.
Once all 4 bolts have been removed, disconnect any light bulb harnesses. This can be accomplished with a flat head screwdriver in those hard to reach
places. Apply consistent pressure, but if you hear the slightest crackling, stop and proceed with caution.
Once all the harnesses are disconnected, proceed to wiggle the headlight out. It is secured by two mounting pins.
Wiggling the assembly out will mean you need to unsnap one of the mounting tabs. With light pressure, it should release.
Step 2 - Removing Headlights Continued
At this point, the headlight should be clear of the lower bumper trim and ready to be pulled out from its final mounting point.
Step 3 - Removing Headlights Continued
At this point, it’s a good idea to remove ALL lamps and ballasts from the headlight in preparation for the baking process to remove the outer
lens. Use needle nose pliers to squeeze the locking washer enough to let it slide out of the hole. The wiring harness is attached to the headlight
and ballast.
You will want to remove the ballast as the final step before placing the headlight into an oven.
DISCLAIMER!!! THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE TO BE PERFORMED AT THE SOLE DISCRETION OF THE INSTALLEE.
THESE STEPS OFFER NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED GUARANTEE OF SUCCESS. NOR IS THERE ANY WARRANTY
EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. INSTALLER PROCEEDS AT SOLE PERSONAL RISK WITH NO LIABILITY TO UMNITZA, THE
CONSTITUENTS/INSTALLERS of UMNITZA, or NISSAN MOTOR CORPORATION.
Before proceeding with the baking of the headlight, ensure that the 2 screws holding the lens in place are unscrewed. Otherwise, your headlight
will not come apart.
Step 4 - Headlight Disassembly
At this stage, please proceed with extreme caution. This should not be performed by anyone in a haphazard or quick way. Be patient. Don’t
expect immediate results. You may need to place your headlight into the oven more than 2 times to make sure the seal around it has been
completely melted.
AT APPROXIMATELY 200-250 DEGREES with 20 MINUTES OF BAKE TIME, THE SEAL SHOULD BE SOFT. THIS IS
APPROXIMATE AND RESULTS WILL VARY BY HEADLIGHT, OVEN, AND CLIMATE. PLEASE PROCEED WITH
EXTREME CAUTION!!!!!!!! ALSO DO NOT PLACE TWO HEADLIGHTS INTO THE OVEN, THIS WILL NOT WORK.
Use oven mitts, the headlight will be extremely hot to the touch. Use a flat blade screwdriver to gently pry the seal open.
Step 5
In cool temperatures, bring the headlight indoors for warmth to cure. Even with the mounting point adhesive
pads working perfectly, you SHOULD place a small drop of silicone under the very bottom of the ring to cushion it
from vibration. Center the ring on the reflector and push VERY GENTLY at ONLY the mounting points to adhere
the ring to it. Take care that no point on the ring or the mounting points is outside of the edge of the reflector.
This would prevent it from being reinstalled and probable breakage. The bottom edge is particularly important.
When reinserted, the ring should not contact the outer bezel. The rings are sized according to the projectors, the
smaller ring on the high beam projector, the larger ring on the low beam.
THE RINGS ARE FRAGILE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BEND, FLEX, HIT, JAR, or PUSH TOO HARD ON THEM.
Repeat the procedure for all 4 rings.
Step 6-9
6
The wires will, once the rings are fully seated (about 20 minutes for the adhesive to fully bond), run out the top
of the low/high beam projectors side and out the dust cap opening. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PULL ON THE
WIRES, DOING SO WILL BREAK THE RINGS. DO NOT PUT ANY TENSION ON THE WIRES.
Reassemble by putting the black plastic outer lens back into the oven (to soften the glue) and reseal headlights.
You may use additional silicon at this time to insure a proper seal.
7
Now it is time to insert the electrical pins on the ring wiring into the connector shells. This is by design. Otherwise
the connector would be too thick to fit through the vent openings discussed above. Carefully note the orientation
of the connector in the picture. There is no polarity on the wires. Either one can go in either side of the
connector. But there is a small metal barb on the connector. It isn’t visible in the picture, but it must point UP
when inserted into the connector, when oriented as shown. If the barb on the connector pin does not seat
completely, you may need to push the pin in a bit farther. Needle nose pliers work well. But you can do it with
finger pressure. DO NOT CROSS THE WIRES. MAKE SURE EACH PAIR OF WIRES FROM EACH RING
CONNECTS INTO ONLY ONE CLAM SHELL CONNECTOR.
8
Once both rings have their pins inserted into the connector shells. Plug them into either white output of the
power ballast. Repeat for the other rings.
9
Now you have the wires running out the back of the low beam dust cap, it's now time to re-insert the dust cap
ON TOP OF THE WIRES. Gentlly pull all the slack out of the wires prior to doing so.

Step 10
Replace the 2 screws that hold the headlight lens together. (see step 3)
Step 11-15
11
Locate your wiring harness. Take the end of the wiring harness - the big black box - and use the mounting bolt
on your battery to secure the included bracket on the back of the box. In picture 1 in step 11, you'll notice that
this metal tab/bracket has been bent at a 90 degree angel. Do not worry, this will have no bearing on the life
span of the unit. Picture two shows an aerial view of the location of this relay (black box).
12
The harness has a black/brown wire with a circular connector on the end of it. This is the GROUND for the
system. Be sure to connect it to a body attached bolt that is unpainted and not aluminum.
13
The harness also has a yellow wire. This is the positive lead. This yellow wire attaches to the bolt of the positive
battery terminal lead (connected directly to the battery). It also has a little black female fuse holder. Only when
you are ready to test the system and are sure that your wiring is completed should you insert the provided 5A
fuse.
14
Finally, choose the wire that will allow you to turn your DDE on. You may connect it to the parking lights as
shown by using the included "add-a-tap" and inserting the male connector from the red wire with white stripe.
You may also connect this wire to a switch that you can run inside the cabin, or into any 12V source wire. You
may of course connect it to an ignition based 12V source and run the DDE as Daytime Running Lights.
15 - NOT PICTURED
When completed, the wiring harness has two pair of connectors. One long - for running to the passenger's side,
one short, for the driver's side. Each has a red and black lead. The black lead is ground, the red is positive.
They will coincide with the red and black leads from the black ballasts. DO NOT TOUCH THE LEADS
TOGETHER WHILE THE SYSTEM IS ON.
