From Ryan
As the first month of 2009 comes to an end, all
the planning for the spring and summer activities are
in full swing. We have a busy golf, tennis and camp
season approaching. The staff is working diligently to
insure these events are enjoyed by all participants.
Many of the days over the last month have been
wonderful for outdoor activities. If you were lucky
enough to play a round of golf on the Old Course I
hope you noticed the progress of the par three
enlargement and beautification project. Gary and his
team have done a great job. We appreciate you using
caution when playing around these areas.
Saturday, February 14th will be our Valentine’s
Dinner. Chef Mike has a gourmet menu planned for
this special occasion. Reservations are required and
the seating is limited to the first 150. Please call in
advance to reserve a table. We will also have a
Sunday Valentine Brunch on February 15th. If you
can’t make the dinner Saturday night bring your
Valentine to a delightful brunch to show them how
much you appreciate them.
Your staff and management team enjoy seeing you
around the Club. If we can be of any assistance or
help make your time here at the Club more enjoyable,
please let us know.

This month, we will present to
you a Beaujolais from France.
Beaujolais – Village wine take their
name from their region of origin in
Southwest France and are known
for their elegant richness and
fragrance. Beaujolais is the largest
fine wine district in the world.
Beaujolais Wines use the Cabernet
Sauvignon grape blending it with
Cabernet France, Merlot and sometimes
Petite Verdot. The Beaujolais model is
built around not only the desire to craft complex wines
but also the need to ensure that different grape varieties
ripen at different intervals or to give a wine color tannin.
This wine will compliment all red meat or rich
pastas. Your may enjoy this wine by the bottle at $28.00
or by the glass at $7.00 a glass.
See you on the course.
Thank you,
Gary Cudney

Welcome to the New Year. I have high hopes for
this year on several fronts. Both courses are cleaning up
really nice. The drainage project, although not easy, is
coming to a conclusion. The water is definitely going to
move faster in the direction we need it to move.
I believe the tee box renovation project will be a
great improvement to the Old Course. We are basically
enlarging all the par three tees so there will be room to
move the markers. This should give us some room so the
tees will not be so beaten up all the time. At the same
time we are doing the tees there will be some rock work
done to beautify the course. The rock work will tie in
with the clubhouse really adding a special look.
There is a lot of planning with special attention to
detail going into these projects in an attempt to make
Odessa Country Club the best place to be. Come on out
and see the work in process and get a round in. Some
days are really good golfing days.

As we begin the new year, always for the Odessa

our Board year is nearing completion.
Each year in February, the current Board of
Directors are charged with the responsibility of
selecting nine (9) voting members to serve as the
Nominating Committee.
The Nominating Committee for 2009 will then
meet and select six (6) of our current voting members
to fill the expiring terms of three of our current Board
of Directors.
Even though the Board members will actually
make the nominations, we would like to have your
input on those of your fellow Club Members that you
would like to suggest to serve on the Nominating
Committee. The February Board of Directors meeting
will be Wednesday, February 18, 2009.
The Election and Annual Stockholder/Member

CONFIDENCE!
OCC Women’s Association
I hope everyone has had a great January and
enjoyed some above average weather here at OCC. We
have enjoyed seeing you out on the golf courses as we are
starting to gear up for a great 2009 season! This is a
great time to start thinking about your golf game and
equipment to begin getting ready to have the best
playing year of your life!
The Women’s Association Members and their guests
in January were treated to a Mexican Buffet. The
centerpieces were Mexican dolls with the tables
accented with bright colorful napkins. The hostesses
were Chairman Amy Jo Marshall, J’Nevelyn Melton,
Wylma Madden, Marylin Morris, and Susan Meador.
President Amy Jo Marshall called the meeting to
order and the minutes of the last meeting were read by
Secretary Marylin Morris. The minutes were approved
as read. The President then announced the planned
special events for the coming year.
The gift cards were won by Susan Meador and
Wylma Madden. The Sunday Buffet was won by Marie
Robertson. The meeting was adjourned for bridge and
games.
The instantaneous allure
and professionalism of quality
menswear is unmistakable.

With spring growing closer, it is time to start getting
back in the swing of things. The first priority I have before
every golf season is to set goals. Setting a goal allows you to
strive for achievement and get excited about improving.
There are three main things you need to do when
setting goals. First, set a time frame in which to achieve
each goal. Second, you have to make sure the goal is
measurable. For example, say “I am going to knock 3
strokes off my handicap in six months” as opposed to “I am
going to improve my game”. You can keep track and see if
you meet your goal of knocking three strokes off your
handicap. Finally, be realistic; do not set an unattainable
goal. We would all like to beat Tiger and I’m not saying you
can’t do it, but make sure you understand that he has the
opportunity to work on his game ten hours a day and you
may not.
When approaching any new golf season remember to set
goals. They can be anything from hitting more fairways to
winning the Club Championship. Just make sure to set a
reasonable time frame, make goals that you can measure
and evaluate the situation realistically. A little hard work
never hurts either.
Make the flags quiver,
Gordon Couch
