Footsteps of Jesus
Ponderings of the Preacher . . .
The dedication service for the new building at Oil Belt Camp took
place last night. What a wonderful service it was! They had hoped to
have 2,000 in attendance. With the size of the building and being
unfamiliar with how many the building
will seat, it is hard to estimate the crowd.
I am sure someone did a head count, but
I am going to estimate an attendance of
f we know Jesus, around 1500. I saw many people from
then we will follow Him. surrounding churches that I knew so the
night provided an opportunity for seeing
old friends. I saw people from all over the Oil Belt Camp area (north,
south, east and west).
The song service was fantastic. Anita Newlin played the piano
and led the singing. She used a mixture of old hymns and newer
praise and worship songs. She concluded the singing by leading us in
singing “How Great Is Our God” and “How Great Thou Art”. Hearing that many voices singing praise to our God surely was a foretaste
of heaven.
The speaker for the evening was Jeff Walling who has just begun a
ministry with Pepperdine University in California. Jeff is a preacher
who can have you laughing one minute but seriously challenging you
in your faith walk the next. He addressed the topic of how to keep
this next generation involved and following Christ. He talked about
two possibilities: emphasize the rules and emphasize feelings. He
dismissed those two as not being effective. The third possibility he
offered was to help them KNOW Jesus. If we know Jesus, then we
will follow Him.
At the end of the service, the offering was received. The total will
be posted on Oil Belt’s website later today. The goal was $100,000.
Still needed in cash and commitments to pay for the building is
$500,000.
We are a part of a great endeavor at Oil Belt. Let’s continue to
pray for the ministry of the camp. Let’s encourage our kids to continue going to camp each summer. Let’s pray that God will help us
be faithful to the financial commitment we have made to the camp.
I hope to see each of you this Sunday morning. Our attendance
has really been down these last two weeks. I encourage you to meet
me at 901 N. Henrietta next Sunday morning as the church gathers to
worship a truly amazing God.

David

Pastor Appreciation
Let Them Know
Pray a prayer, send a card, give them a call
or leave a note on their desk! All pastors and
their wives need encouragement from their
church family. A bible passage or a one line
thank you may make their day brighter as
they serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
“We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.
We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor
prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus
Christ.”
I Thessalonians 1:2, 3
