June 2013
Issue
Dear Donors, Sponsors and Friends:
Our Dedicated Staff:
Welcome once again to the Visram Foundation
Newsletter. All our girls and staff at REACH
Pray for good health and prosperity of all our
Donors, Sponsors and well-wishers.
This year, a very good staff member – Dilshad Bhayani who was in
charge of our girls from grades I to IV and who the girls loved very
much has moved and settled in Andhra Pradesh. Also, one of the
cooks Afsana Padhaniya has left the Institute and is now settled in
Surat, Gujarat. We all miss them at the Institute and wish them all
the best.
As of June, we are entering into the Academic
Year 2013-2014 and would like to share with you
the developments at the REACH Institute.
This year we have once again welcomed new
girls and now have a total of 100 girls at the
Reach Institute. These new girls about 25 are,
primarily, from economic backgrounds that, but
for REACH, may find it difficult to get an
education
On the Academic side, our girls of the 12th grade
Commerce & Science, have appeared for the
Board Exams and have all successfully passed
and are awaiting their Graduation! They are now
able to choose their field and course. In part, it is
the efforts of the Foundation which cared for
them, educated them, loved and nurtured them to
be confident of their future. These girls will no
longer be at our Institute, although some of them
will continue with University education in a
professional capacity.
Shubhra is strongly supported by the existing dedicated staff
members Yasmin Panjwani our Head Matron, Rozina Chunara –
Assistant Matron and Mrinalini Nelge - Coordinator.
In the Kitchen department, we have the sincere and dedicated ladies
such as Zubeda Dhanani and Zubeda Lalani who are very attentive
to the children’s diet and nutritional requirements. In our housekeeping department, apart from Sulabha and Rukmini, we have two
new additions Ashwini and Gangubai who are sincere and hardworking. Our driver Yuvraj Ambole continues to be with us and we
have an additional driver by the name of Sandeep Sangnale, who
drives the new bus that we just acquired. Both the drivers are doing
a good job and taking good care of the girls. In the garden, the
mango trees are blooming with mouthwatering mangoes and so are
the coconut trees! The garden is being maintained by our gardener
Michael who has planted many beautiful flowers and plants. Also,
our Senior most house-keeping staff, Rukmini has been very
instrumental in housekeeping issues.
In addition to the purchase of a 36-seater bus in December 2012, we
have now purchased a Maruti EECO 7-seater van recently. This is
the second vehicle we have purchased for shuttling the children to
schools.
We have also done career counseling for our
Senior girls with the help of a professional career
counselor. They can now confidently identify and
choose their stream for higher education. From
the Academic year 2013-14, we have decided to
counsel the girls from grade 8 to 10 so that they
can decide about their future goals and profession
well in advance.
A very special thanks and grateful acknowledgement goes out
to Mr. Moaiz Vyankani and his wife Alisha Vyankani who is a
Mentor to the Foundation. While Moaiz was a Secretary of the Aga
Khan Education Board, his wife Alisha is a lawyer. Both of them
are monitoring the activities of the Institute on a daily basis in
conjunction with Shubhra. We wish both Moaiz and Alisha all the
very best and thank them for being a part of the Reach Institute and
we are honored to have them.
Needless to mention that these achievements will
only be possible with the support, love and
patronage from you our donors, sponsors and
well-wishers.
Excellence:
Shubhra Gaikwad - Administrator
Eight of our girls have been honored by the Aga Khan Education
Service, India for their outstanding performance. These girls have
secured 85% and above in their examinations and have been
awarded Merit Certificates.
The girls at the Reach Institute did have an opportunity to meet
one of our young donors Malaika Kapur who visited the Reach
Institute and shared her experiences in life with the girls. Malaika
at the age of 16 climbed Mount Kilimanjaro (It is the highest
mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in
the world at 19,341 feet above sea level) to raise money for the
surgery of poor African babies who were born with hole in the
heart. She is currently a student at the University of British
Columbia, Canada. She is the president of “World Care Ways”
Tanzania and Canada a charitable organization supporting need
based projects. Malaika has also been honored among others by
Mr. Nelson Mandela for her work.
Left to Right: Shubra (Administrator); Malaika
Kapur, and Rashid Parekh (Trustee)
It was an honor and great inspiration to our Girls to have her
come all the way to spend time at our institute.

GIRL OF THE MONTH
Komal is a Grade 8 student at the Pune International School . She is from
Dhari, Gujarat and likes to spend time with her family during vacations. She
states that there is no proper facility for education in Dhari.
She is a very sincere and creative girl. She is very good at drawing and needle
work. She always makes an effort to speak in English and wants to speak it
fluently.
She likes to participate in sports events especially running, in addition to
making sketches, dancing and reading. She won 1st prize in drawing
competition and also won two medals in sports this year.
The best thing she has learnt from the Reach Institute is to be caring and loving
towards other children. Hostel life has taught her to be self dependent.
KOMAL CHAWDA
Her ambition is to become a famous Fashion Designer. She wants to help the
needy when she grows up. She also wants to be a part of the Reach Foundation
and help other girls to get better education like she did.
TEACHERS
Our teachers are nice, as sweet as sugar and hot as spice,
They are loving and kind, which is difficult to find.
They teach us with care, all things those are fair,
With words and smiles that takes us miles….
