Dear
Readers
It’s 2011 and it seems
ages since that a big happy
chappy in a red suit paid
us a visit on Christmas
Eve. I imagine he has now
headed for on his holiday
somewhere warmer.
We still have the prospect of more snow showers. Snow is one
of those things which is both beautiful and deadly. Looking
out and seeing pure white snow blanketing the countryside
is very picturesque, but a blanket of snow on roads, soon
becomes compact and dangerous. On a serious note if it
remains icy please be careful on the ice, keep an eye on
elderly neighbours and if you can, keep a watch out for the
wildlife in your gardens, how tiny little birds and animals
cope in these kinds of conditions is beyond me.
The winner of last month’s competition is Evie French,
Primrose Walk, Woodford Halse.
Anyone who wishes to advertise in the January issue, please

I wish everyone a

Winter Wonderland Show 2010
What a show!
Well done
to all the children and parents who
helped and took part in the Winter
Wonderland Show in November 2010
with LoveBallet Dance Company. We
certainly had the Winter Weather for
the show, with a sprinkling of snow on
the floor and frosted faces arriving in
the freezing temperatures! The show
took place in Rugby and all the children
who took part did exceptionally well on
stage performing their dance routines
which ranged from Ballet, Tap, Modern,
Jazz, Cheerleading, Gymnastics, Street
Dance and Contemporary!
Proud
parents and family friends filled the
audience with each performance being
a complete sell out it meant the children
had a great crowd and atmosphere to
perform within.
the show. We managed to raise £2,400
for charity, a phenomenal amount so
a huge well done and thank you to
everyone again who took part. The
money is being split between Coventry
Mind and Children in Need.
The Winter Wonderland Show had
boys and girls from 3 years upwards
to Adults and everyone had a fantastic
time performing, it’s a great experience
for them and really builds their
confidence too which is important
for boys and girls growing up in
today’s environment. The costumes
were fantastic; all the little ones were
Ruldolph or Penguins and looked
very cute, they always get the biggest
cheer from the audience. The show
was in memory of my dear Mum who
tragically and suddenly passed away
on October 23rd, just a month before
After the Christmas break, we
return to normal class lessons,
which take place in Southam,
Daventry, Upper Boddington, Long
Buckby, & Warwick (Ardencote
Manor Leisure Club) and we will
be working towards examinations
which are very important for
children to progress through the
grades and develop their technique.
In January we will be starting Zumba
Classes too – a fantastic latin and world
dance class with upbeat tunes to party
your way into shape, it’s a really lively
upbeat class which tones, builds cardio
LoveBallet Dance Company has just
held the annual presentations in
December following the show, Miss
Lorraine (Principal) gives everybody a
medal for their hard work & dedication
to dance throughout the year, and
they come up on stage to collect it in
front of their parents. There are also
special trophies, exam medals and
exam certificates to hand out including
the prestigious LoveBallet Trophy
& Shield which is awarded to
somebody doing particularly well
with their dancing.

Keeping Pets Safe in Winter Weather
The cold winter weather brings
with it particular hazards for our
pets and as owners, we need to
anticipate the potential problems
before our pets come to harm.
Dogs who love water cannot resist
ploughing into rivers and lakes
regardless of the strong currents and
will often run across frozen water as
part of their games. Every year there
are incidents of dogs being swept
away or trapped by broken ice which is
dangerous and traumatic for both the
dog and the owners. The fire service
advises never to attempt to rescue a dog
trapped by ice by crossing it yourself
as the risk of injury to yourself is so
great. So, if your dog is a water lover,
think ahead and keep ball games away
from the river, walk on a lead and have
plenty of towels or blankets on hand
to wrap up a wet dog. In the extremely
low temperatures we have had this
year, it is worth considering a dog coat
for short haired breeds and especially
older dogs.
Dogs in particular are attracted to the
sweet smell of anti-freeze and will not
think twice about drinking it. It is very

poisonous and at this time of year may
be found in puddles on driveways and
roads. If you have reason to believe that
your dog has ingested anti-freeze you
should contact your vet immediately.
The dark nights make it difficult to
spot dogs and cats and unfortunately
the incidences of road accidents
involving animals increase. A small
light or reflector collar gives your pet
a greater chance of being seen, while
a tiny microchip implant will enable
the vet to reunite you if your pet is
injured while out and about. We have
had several accidents with pets being
hit by cars already this winter but most
have had happy endings as prompt
emergency treatment and microchip
identification have enabled pets to be
returned home.
Guinea pigs and rabbits should be
protected from the worst of the
weather by moving their hutches into
a garage or shed and providing lots of
extra bedding. Poultry too need extra
bedding to keep them warm and benefit
from an occasional warm feed during
the winter months. Remember to check

Down the Garden Path
As Midwinter passes
in the garden there
is still the prospect
of
cold
winds,
heavy rain, frost
and possibly snow.
Even if this is
the coldest time
of the year there
are still things to
do. Providing you
completed
your
winter digging and
tidying jobs last month, most jobs
will be indoors planning for the new
season.
The garden this month will be one of
silhouettes, conifers, bare branches
and if you have planted well, a few
flowering plants that look good almost
unreal amongst the resting branches.
Remember to clear heavy snow fall
from plants that become overloaded
before damage and breakage of
branches occurs and check all those
stakes and ties.

The shortest day has passed and we
can all look forward to the new so why

to mention a huge range of evergreen
shrubs together with trees and
conifers.

Monthly Reminders
Patio Pots - Remember to lift all pots
Trees and Shrubs - Check stakes
and ties and protect any tender
specimens that are in exposed positions,
continue planting bare rooted hedging
when weather permits. Prune trees and
shrubs to shape.
Tools and Equipment – Now
is an ideal time to clean and service
equipment and garden tools. If your
lawn mower needs attention, take it to
the service centre now and avoid the
spring rush.

and containers on to blocks or pot feet
to assist drainage and help prevent frost
damage. If your pots look waterlogged
– think! Did you add enough crocks or
drainage material when you filled your
container? Most suppliers recommend
at least one third of the pot is filled
with crocks or open drainage material
before compost is added.
Seed Potatoes – The new season stock
will be arriving shortly and planning your
planting should start now.
Wild Birds – Provide feeders and
feeding tables for garden birds and
keep them regularly re-stocked with
food. Roosting perches and boxes are on
sale at the Garden Centre and provide
ideal shelters during the cold winter
months. Start siting nesting boxes now
to enable birds to start choosing their
breeding sites for spring.
We hope to see you soon.

Down the Garden Path
As Midwinter passes
in the garden there
is still the prospect
of
cold
winds,
heavy rain, frost
and possibly snow.
Even if this is
the coldest time
of the year there
are still things to
do. Providing you
completed
your
winter digging and
tidying jobs last month, most jobs
will be indoors planning for the new
season.
The garden this month will be one of
silhouettes, conifers, bare branches
and if you have planted well, a few
flowering plants that look good almost
unreal amongst the resting branches.
Remember to clear heavy snow fall
from plants that become overloaded
before damage and breakage of
branches occurs and check all those
stakes and ties.

Patio Pots - Remember to lift all pots
Trees and Shrubs - Check stakes
and ties and protect any tender
specimens that are in exposed positions,
continue planting bare rooted hedging
when weather permits. Prune trees and
shrubs to shape.
Tools and Equipment – Now
is an ideal time to clean and service
equipment and garden tools. If your
lawn mower needs attention, take it to
the service centre now and avoid the
spring rush.

and containers on to blocks or pot feet
to assist drainage and help prevent frost
damage. If your pots look waterlogged
– think! Did you add enough crocks or
drainage material when you filled your
container? Most suppliers recommend
at least one third of the pot is filled
with crocks or open drainage material
before compost is added.
Seed Potatoes – The new season stock
will be arriving shortly and planning your
planting should start now.
Wild Birds – Provide feeders and
feeding tables for garden birds and
keep them regularly re-stocked with
food. Roosting perches and boxes are on
sale at the Garden Centre and provide
ideal shelters during the cold winter
months. Start siting nesting boxes now
to enable birds to start choosing their
breeding sites for spring.

Keeping Pets Safe in Winter Weather
The cold winter weather brings
with it particular hazards for our
pets and as owners, we need to
anticipate the potential problems
before our pets come to harm.
Dogs who love water cannot resist
ploughing into rivers and lakes
regardless of the strong currents and
will often run across frozen water as
part of their games. Every year there
are incidents of dogs being swept
away or trapped by broken ice which is
dangerous and traumatic for both the
dog and the owners. The fire service
advises never to attempt to rescue a dog
trapped by ice by crossing it yourself
as the risk of injury to yourself is so
great. So, if your dog is a water lover,
think ahead and keep ball games away
from the river, walk on a lead and have
plenty of towels or blankets on hand
to wrap up a wet dog. In the extremely
low temperatures we have had this
year, it is worth considering a dog coat
for short haired breeds and especially
older dogs.
Dogs in particular are attracted to the
sweet smell of anti-freeze and will not
think twice about drinking it. It is very

poisonous and at this time of year may
be found in puddles on driveways and
roads. If you have reason to believe that
your dog has ingested anti-freeze you
should contact your vet immediately.
The dark nights make it difficult to
spot dogs and cats and unfortunately
the incidences of road accidents
involving animals increase. A small
light or reflector collar gives your pet
a greater chance of being seen, while
a tiny microchip implant will enable
the vet to reunite you if your pet is
injured while out and about. We have
had several accidents with pets being
hit by cars already this winter but most
have had happy endings as prompt
emergency treatment and microchip
identification have enabled pets to be
returned home.
Guinea pigs and rabbits should be
protected from the worst of the
weather by moving their hutches into
a garage or shed and providing lots of
extra bedding. Poultry too need extra
bedding to keep them warm and benefit
from an occasional warm feed during
the winter months. Remember to check

Dear
Anyone who wishes to advertise in the January issue, please
call Karen on 01926 811911
I wish everyone a
happy and prosperous
New Year.
take care

Winter Wonderland Show 2010
What a show!
Well done
to all the children and parents who
helped and took part in the Winter
Wonderland Show in November 2010
with LoveBallet Dance Company. We
certainly had the Winter Weather for
the show, with a sprinkling of snow on
the floor and frosted faces arriving in
the freezing temperatures! The show
took place in Rugby and all the children
who took part did exceptionally well on
stage performing their dance routines
which ranged from Ballet, Tap, Modern,
Jazz, Cheerleading, Gymnastics, Street
Dance and Contemporary!
Proud
parents and family friends filled the
audience with each performance being
a complete sell out it meant the children
had a great crowd and atmosphere to
perform within.
the show. We managed to raise £2,400
for charity, a phenomenal amount so
a huge well done and thank you to
everyone again who took part. The
money is being split between Coventry
Mind and Children in Need.
The Winter Wonderland Show had
boys and girls from 3 years upwards
to Adults and everyone had a fantastic
time performing, it’s a great experience
for them and really builds their
confidence too which is important
for boys and girls growing up in
today’s environment. The costumes
were fantastic; all the little ones were
Ruldolph or Penguins and looked
very cute, they always get the biggest
cheer from the audience. The show
was in memory of my dear Mum who
tragically and suddenly passed away
on October 23rd, just a month before
After the Christmas break, we
return to normal class lessons,
which take place in Southam,
Daventry, Upper Boddington, Long
Buckby, & Warwick (Ardencote
Manor Leisure Club) and we will
be working towards examinations
which are very important for
children to progress through the
grades and develop their technique.
In January we will be starting Zumba
Classes too – a fantastic latin and world
dance class with upbeat tunes to party
your way into shape, it’s a really lively
upbeat class which tones, builds cardio
LoveBallet Dance Company has just
held the annual presentations in
December following the show, Miss
Lorraine (Principal) gives everybody a
medal for their hard work & dedication
to dance throughout the year, and
they come up on stage to collect it in
front of their parents. There are also
special trophies, exam medals and
exam certificates to hand out including
the prestigious LoveBallet Trophy
& Shield which is awarded to
somebody doing particularly well
with their dancing.
