Lana’s Lines
Our year is off with a bang! October’s
meeting was great with a super turnout. It’s
wonderful to see our membership supporting SAFD
and that we have so many new members and
guests. Keep coming – it only gets better. Community Affairs is planning a great Christmas workshop –
so come out and help them make some beautiful
designs and make so many people happy over the
holidays.
Please come to our December meeting and
hands-on workshop. You will take home a beautiful
Christmas design you personally make. Our leader
for the workshop is our own member, Janice Barron. The cost is only $25.00 per person, but you
must be a SAFD member to attend. SAFD
will be providing the refreshments for the
night as just another way of giving back to
our members. You won’t be disappointed
and it’s so much fun to make something and
take it home.
This is my annual “thank you” letter
for Thanksgiving. It’s time for me to give
thanks for everyone and everything in my
life. My SAFD Board is simply the best team
group of members to work with – thanks to
each and every one of you for all you do.
Special thanks to all of YOU for showing your
support and for all you do – you’re all great!!
The next SAFD meeting of 2011-2012
Wishing you and your families all the
best during this season of Thanksgiving – love to you
all

SAFD October Presentation
Our October special presenter was Marya

best friend
Lori accompanied her
to our evening demonstration.

Mo and Lori showed us inspiration can
come from unexpected places. AJ’s recently received a huge shipment of large ceramic pots that
were wrapped in burlap bags. Lori could not bear
the thought of throwing all of them away so she
started her search for something to do with them.
Inspiration struck and a idea was born to make
hand stitched bags that could be stuffed with dried
materials like wheat, preserved fall leaves and dried
flowers. Small squares of burlap were cut by anyone and everyone on the staff. Each square was
pinched in the center and the tip was wrapped with
a short floral wire. When hundreds of these were
made the designing began, first wreaths were mad
and then whole Christmas trees were designed and
built for display and sale.
If any of our members have the opportunity
to drop by AJ’s Urban petals please do, they have a
beautiful store over flowing with fabulous items to

And don’t forget to say Hi to Mo and Lori and
tell them you are from SAFD.

Special Events
For many SAFD members working full time means
you miss out on our bus trips. Saturday November 19th
will be a chance for everyone to attend the next outing.
Leave Barbara Bush library parking lot at 9:00 am
to arrive at JoLoè Art Barn at #18 Timberwood Lane, Conroe, Texas before ten.
Loela and Johan have a wonderful morning
planned for us and it is so exciting to hear about their
home and view their fantastic paintings including the watercolors from her book "Heirloom Bulbs for Today". She
will do a demo of a Thanksgiving arrangement, and we
will have an opportunity to browse (and to buy,
if I know this group) the lovely handmade items
in their studio.
We will have lunch at Eden's Cafe which
is raved about by those who have been there. It
is easy to find out about it on the web at:
http://www.edencafe.net and is right on our
way home.
