100% PASS 3RD GRADE READING
GUARANTEE REQUIREMENT
A recent article in the Dayton Daily News reported the K-3 Literacy District Report
Card for area schools. This grade is based on the results of assessments given to
students in early grades while they are learning to read. Northmont selects rigorous
tests to challenge early readers, which results in lower initial ratings. However, the
long-range goal of students being able to read by 3rd grade is met by Northmont with
100% of students meeting the 3rd Grade Guarantee.
• All Northmont 3rd graders passed the OAA/ODE approved reading test last year.
• According to the Ohio Department of Education, the Kleptz Early Learning
Center data will not be included in the district grade because the building does not
have 3rd grade. Therefore, Northmont’s early intervention will not be reflected in
the grade as half of the population is not being included.
A NEW ERA AT NHS
Approximately 2000 people turned out in the ice and snow to be
part of Northmont history with the dedication of the new high
school. Student performers included ROTC Drill, Jazz Band,
Strings, Encore, Drama Club, and Catalyst. The baseball team
and Boy Scouts assisted with setting up for the event and many
students acted as ambassadors by passing out programs and
greeting visitors.

THOUGHTS FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT - Dr. Sarah Zatik
When I’m out in the community, I sometimes hear people suggest that we have students attending
school in our buildings who are not Northmont residents. Northmont City Schools has strict residency
standards and takes this very seriously. We have staff members who are dedicated to identifying
children who are not properly registered and helping families through the process. We have removed
approximately 50 students this school year who were falsely registered in our district.
Anyone with knowledge of a student who has not had these steps followed on his/her behalf, needs to
contact the Board of Education Office at 832-5000. All calls will be kept confidential. Falsification of
residency can result in collection of back tuition and prosecution.
Our Mission:
The mission of Northmont City Schools is to provide
students an exceptional education with diverse
opportunities so they maximize their potential and are
productive, responsible citizens.
