SOME THINGS CHANGE
Some more heart-warming stories from Hound Heights to help
you feel good – and to help you realise what an often challenging,
frequently frustrating and always rewarding job it is – kind of like
life itself really… Though many of you would not want to deal
with sick puppies, or a dog with his eye hanging out. Two of these
stories are about how families can grow through no fault of their
own and without even trying. For fans of Inez we have updates!
plus links to her latest videos. Please also have a look at our List of
Needs, which this time includes some intellectual properties, as
well as the usual appeal for veterinary supplies and hard cash. As
always we thank all our supporters, helpers and friends from the
bottom of our hearts, and salute you for your kindness and dedication. Keep up the good work!
INEZ
Six months ago, Inez (a Staffordshire Terrier) was hit – either by a car, or a nasty
blow with a lump of wood – and suffered what seemed at the time incurable
damage. She couldn’t walk or even stand up. These dewy-eyed idealists staffing
AWARE tend to get prickly around words like ‘incurable’ and ‘hopeless’, and
started right in with the therapy. Now Inez is looking good and walking nicely.
The idealists knew she would all along, and are constantly rewarded with kisses
– despite Inez belonging to a ‘dangerous’ and ‘violent’ breed (other words the
idealists don’t like).

TWO SISTERS
Of course once you know they’re not related, it’s obvious. First
of all, though, you go “They can’t be siblings!” and Xenii just
smiles.
“Until he extends
the circle of his
compassion to all
living things, man
will not find
peace”
Albert Schweitzer
Grease – the mother – was found on the street with her oh-socute 2-month-old baby Naro, and brought to Hound Heights.
Next day, Australian volunteer Tracy showed up with a tiny
white kitten. “She was outside my hotel. I couldn’t leave her
there.” And I thought Australians just played rugby and drank
beer! Margarita must be about 3 weeks old, and obviously in
need of nursing. Grease and Naro accepted her immediately.
Naro uses Margarita to practise future cat-wrestling skills, and
Margarita doesn’t seem to mind at all, suckling happily.
SUPPORT THESE POOR,
DEFENCELESS KITTENS!
“There are two
means of refuge
from the miseries
of life: music and
cats.”
Albert Schweitzer
WAYNE
Someone spotted Wayne on the Highway and called AWARE. He
was lucky to be alive, and if the person hadn’t seen him, or hadn’t
called AWARE, he wouldn’t have been for long. Members of staff
went down and brought him back in a wheelbarrow. One eye was
hanging out, and he couldn’t walk. Youth is on his side, too, and
although his eye had to be surgically removed, his neurological
damage has all but healed and now, a mere 3 weeks after being hit
by speeding traffic on the Highway and left for dead, he is going
out for walks and romping through the woods with his pen-mates.
Another champion!
DON’T YOU THINK THIS GUY DESERVES A HELPING HAND?

CAVE DOGS
Word came that a mother dog had given birth to her puppies inside a cave.
Then they found out that the mother had been killed by a car, so they called
Blanca and Blanca called AWARE. Fortunately for the puppies, Blanca’s brother
is uncharacteristically slender. Even so, after squeezing inside and handing the 6
puppies out 1 by 1, he had trouble extricating himself. Another hero. The whole
rescue took 4 hours. Back at Hound Heights 2 other puppies were arriving with
someone else at the same time, so all 8 are together,
and the 4 sick ones are now fully recovered. They will
all be spayed/neutered soon, and will be ready for
adoption.
HELP
THE CAVE DOGS!
STOP PRESS!!!!
AWARE is at this time looking
after over 330 dogs & 70 cats,
together with 4 chickens, 2 rabbits, 1 donkey and a young female horse. This means we are
having to raise funds for the
purchase of 4000lbs of dog kibble, and 400lbs of dry cat food
per month, to supplement the
in-kind donations we receive.
Please help us to help the animals!
