4th Quarter 2012
President’s Message
Arizona Region
By Barry Kolesar
Wow!
Viper Club of America
It’s hard to believe
another memorable year has
gone by capped off with a fun
filled and festive Holiday party
at the beautiful home of Gus
an d Kare n Chengelis.
Thanks Karen and Gus for
opening up your home to us.
As your new President I can’t
help but reflect back on the
past four years that our club
has grown in status and recognition. It has evolved into
one of the most active regions
in the VCA. We owe a big
debt of gratitude and thanks
to Rich and Kim Link for their
devotion, class, and professionalism to making the club
what it is today. And we certainly can’t forget Jeanette
and Warren Goldfarb for all
the outstanding events they
took the time to plan and
organize. Your new team of
Debbie Ruckert, Vice President, Dave Ruckert, Secretary, Mike Scheffer, Treasurer
and Eddie and MaryAnn Martin our Social Planners and I
as your President know that we
have huge shoes to fill and a
bar that has been raised to a
new level. We promise to do
our best to make your Viper
Club experience memorable
and fun.
We have a variety of new
events planned for 2013 and a
couple of annual stand-bys.
Our traditional January event
begins with Breakfast at the Bill
Luke Chrysler Jeep Dodge
dealership on Saturday January 19 and concludes with a
caravan of Vipers to the world
famous Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale. Since I am
writing this prior to the Christmas Holiday I want to remind
everyone to make your BarrettJackson reservation as soon
as the event flyer is published
(watch for it on our club web
site) as tickets and parking
passes will be very limited.
Obtaining passes will be on a
first come first served basis.
Anyone who is not able to
secure a pass through the club
will have to purchase a pass
on the Barrett-Jackson web
site or at the gate. I urge you
not to wait until the last minute.
Our February event will be in
Tucson on Saturday the 16th
and is being planned by several members who live in the
Tucson area. Watch our web
site for more details. We want
to encourage more members
to step up and help plan an
event. It’s not difficult. You will
have the assistance and support of your club officers. Our
March 16th event is “Big Bass
Days” at Lake Pleasant and is
organized by our major club
sponsor, Bill Luke Chrysler
Jeep Dodge. The Dealership
has been a long time club
sponsor in the past and has
committed to being an even
larger supporter of the club in
the future.
Let’s show our
appreciation by having a large
Viper turnout for this important
sponsor event. Details will be
on the web site.
Happy 2013 Viper Year!
Montezuma Castle—October
Thanks
to Mike &
Sharon Scheffer, Dale &
Christine Volz, Bernadette & Don Ilseman,
Goot Brewer, Tim Jelle,
Steve Gabrielson, Gus &
Karen Chengelis for a
great adventure to the
Strawberry Lodge for
lunch and a tour of the
Montezuma Castle,
It was a great ride!
Kartchner Caverns—November
We toured the Big Room—all 17 of us.
The tour guide survived the AZ Viper
treatment during her 1 hour and 45
minute educational trek through the
stalactites and stalagmites.
Chris & Beth Sienicki, Tim & Shelli
Jelle, and Goot Brewer joined us for
lunch at the Bat Café. We nearly
froze to death, but survived long
enough to greet Jeff Binder before
our tour. He made a special trip to
the caverns to say hi to all his Viper
friends.
Thanks to our Tucson members Sandy
Fuguero and Norm Tofield and new
Tucson members Lon Huber and his
lovely girlfriend Tierra for joining
the Phoenix group.
Holiday Party—December
Karen and Gus Chengelis were fabulous
hosts for our annual holiday party. Everyone enjoyed the silent auction, raffle and
white elephant gift exchange as well as
the great food. We had a couple of special guests—Be and Rhoda Vuong all the
way from Hawaii and Jeff Binder drove up
from Tucson. Jeff’s parents, Patti & Greg
joined in on the fun to show their support
to Jeff and the Club.
Awards of appreciation for their contributions and dedication to the Club were
presented to Barry Kolesar, Warren &
Jeanette Goldfarb, Eddie Martin and
Mike & Laurie Smith.
We love the Viper Club!!!
