OUR MISSION
St. Richard is a community of believers formed in the image of Jesus as our spiritual head with us as
its members. Our choice is to serve God Our Father through Jesus His Son utilizing the gifts of the

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Scholarship Offerings for the 2016-2017 School Year
Yes, 2013-2014 was the last academic year for our
fulltime school. Yet, our young St. Richard Parish families still
desire a quality Catholic Education for their children. What a
blessing it is to live in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, with a strong
and storied tradition of local Catholic Schools. Our St. Richard
Parish School children transitioned well into other neighboring
schools. They were very well prepared, and have been received
graciously. In my conversations with St. Richard Parish parents, I
hear how our children continue to grow in “knowledge, wisdom
and grace” in their new surroundings. That is in large part due to
the extraordinary commitment and generosity of our parish at
large, having supported Catholic Education for many years.
All families and parishes continue to face challenges in
providing quality Catholic Education for our children. Several
years ago, Archbishop Carlson proposed an extraordinary plan to
assist every Catholic in our Archdiocese to be Alive in Christ.
While many action steps of this initiative lead up to 2018, the 200th
anniversary of Catholic Education in our Archdiocese, the heart of
Alive in Christ is much more immediate and personal. And any
true renewal in faith begins with Jesus.
We began Alive in Christ by reintroducing our St. Richard
Parish School of Religion, serving our children and their families.
Then, St. Richard Church gave a copy of The Four Signs of a
Dynamic Catholic, by Matthew Kelly to every family that joined
us for Mass last Christmas. That was followed by parishioners
meeting in small groups to pray and share faith. A few months
later, along with the other 185 parishes throughout our
Archdiocese, St. Richard Parish parishioners and staff participated
in a self study process, to help us discern our strengths and how we
can build a viable, vital, vibrant parish. This past Christmas we
gave out another Matthew Kelly book, Rediscover Jesus. In just a
few weeks, during Lent, we will offer an opportunity for small
group discussion and prayer. All of this is happening as we make
some modifications to our parish facilities, making them a little
more comfortable, inviting, and user friendly.
In addition, parishes throughout the Archdiocese will be
participating in a new initiative called Beyond Sunday. This is an
important fund raising effort, already begun by some parishes, that
is providing financial benefits even now. St. Richard Parish will
begin this process soon. However, I am happy to include in
today’s bulletin an insert that might provide real financial aid to
many families struggling to provide Catholic Education for their
children. Be sure to look it over or pass it along to a young family.
There are many good things on the horizon and extraordinary
opportunities for us. Jesus is busy here, working among us, in us,
and through us. What a blessing and grace it is to be Alive in
Christ, witnessing our faith, so that the Face of Jesus might be
revealed.
Sincerely yours in Jesus
Fr. John Seper

Please contact me and let me know which

Vocation Chalice Schedule:

Registration for the 2016-2017 PSR
school year will begin on February 9, 2016.
Registration paperwork will be available at
the family event that evening. Please
consider inviting friends to join us at PSR.
Watch for more information to come.
Please remember that if PSR has to
be canceled because of bad weather it will
be announced on Fox 2 as St. Richard PSR.
January 26 is the feast of St.
Polycarp. He was a disciple of St. John the
Evangelist. During his life, he was good and
kind to everyone. When he encountered
someone who was preaching something that
was counter to the teachings of Jesus, he
would cover his ears and move away.
When he was captured because he was a
Christian, he provided a meal for those that
had captured him. He was killed because
he was a Christian. We can learn from St.
Polycarp to choose our friends wisely. We
should make sure that we are associating
with people who bring out the best in us and
we in them. We are to be Christ for each
other. We are called to be merciful and
loving others even to those that hurt us. In
this Year of Mercy, may we remember to be
living examples of Jesus' love and
forgiveness in our community.
Blessings,
Miss Ann Madden

Come and Join Us Pray the Rosary
DYNAMIC CATHOLIC
Unity of Scripture
Answer Our Lady's call and be part of her cohort. She needs
you now more than ever. She pleads each day for your
prayers: to pray the Rosary for her priests and the salvation
of souls.
Today’s Gospel reading presents the ministry of Jesus
as fulfilling Old Testament hopes and expectations. The
numerous Messianic prophecies in the Old Testament
show the unity of Scripture and the fullness of revelation in Christ. Matthew 5:17 also shows the importance
of salvation history: “Do not think that I have come to
abolish the law of the prophets. I have come not to
abolish but to fulfill.” Have you ever participated in a
Bible study that has helped you unlock the Scriptures?
Rosary Group AM: Immediately following the 8:15am
Mass Monday through Friday, the rosary is prayed followed
by Holy Father’s monthly intentions. On Thursday at this
time the group prays the Scriptural Luminous Rosary.
Contact: Tom McCarty 997-8040.
Rosary Group PM: Each Monday at 7pm in the church, the
Rosary Group meets to pray the Rosary followed by the
Memorare, prayer to St. Michael, monthly intentions of our
Holy Father, the Litany of Our Lady and a short prayer for
souls of the faithful departed.

Men’s ACTS Retreat—February 11—14, 2016
In less than a month many of your fellow parishioners will
be reflecting upon, and seeking to renew and refresh their
earthly and spiritual relationships while on the Men’s
ACTS Retreat at the Pallottine Renewal Center in St. Louis
County. Don’t you owe it to yourself to be one of the men
answering “yes” to the invitation to share some special
time with Jesus away from the hectic pace that we all seem to endure. Please join
us February 11-14, 2016 for a potentially pivotal weekend in your faith journey!
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to start the season of Lent with a retreat.
Registration forms are available at each of the Church exits. Call Doug Meadows
(314.993.2916) or Tom Freeman (314.989.0597) with any questions.
BINGO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
BINGO is currently smoke free!
Volunteers are currently needed for January through March 2016. Couples as well as individuals are welcome. It
is extremely helpful if volunteers are available to work 4 to 6 times in a 12 week period.
There is an opportunity for someone who can reasonably work with Excel who knows or wants to know more
parishioners, but may not be mobile for bingo, to learn how to make a quarterly volunteer schedule.
Bingo brings needed outside revenue to St. Richard for projects. We’d love to have you train this quarter for
2016 scheduling!
Please call Meg or Art Wynkoop at 629-1843 or email [email protected] or [email protected] to
volunteer.
