WELCOME
CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
Today we welcome back to WIN Stadium not only our Wolves and
our loyal fans and family, but also one of our favourite sons in Paul
Reid and his current club Rockdale City Suns.
As we celebrate 35 Years as the Wolves this year, who could ever
forget that famous day as Paul Reid slotted home our 3rd goal in the
1999-2000 NSL Grand Final after trailing Perth Glory 3-0 at half time.
A Dino Menillo ball from the centre of midfield to a flying Paul Reid
down the right wing who took his first touch from the pass towards
goal and cheekily slotted the ball through the legs of the Perth Glory
keeper. Reid also ironically slotted home the Wolves final penalty
shot the 9th taken before Les Pogliacomi saved the following Perth
shot to WIN the 1999-2000 Grand Final in front of over 40,000 people in Perth.
Welcome home Reidy but today you are our enemy and 3 points is vital for us Wolves to
build on the success of the past few weeks. Despite the slip up last week at APIA (pardon
the pun) we are alive and kicking still in the FFA CUP and have a chance to reach the final
32 as we take on Sydney Olympic next Wednesday night in Sydney.
I am real proud of the performances our boys have been showing throughout the whole
club in general and our first team is so very young and have such bright futures ahead
of them. The club has been working extremely hard off the field to ensure we can help
build the foundations that we are currently strengthening. We are definitely looking to
strengthen the squad in the transfer window and hope to make some announcements
soon.
Finally I would like to invite you to join us to celebrate the 35th Year of the Wolves. Firstly
we have our Football Family Day at our next home game on the 31st May v Sydney
Olympic followed by our HERITAGE MATCH on JUNE 21st against Sydney United 58 FC
where we hope to parade our CHAMPIONS from 2000 & 2001. It will culminate in our
“WOLVES REUNION”, which we will be having at our spiritual home of football at the
FRATERNITY CLUB Fairy Meadow on Saturday 4th of JULY tickets are limited and are now
on sale in our club website www.southcoastwolves.com.au so be sure to purchase early.

MATCH PREVIEW
ROUND 9
Rockdale City Suns, the 2014 Pre-Season
Cup winners are the visitors in today’s
Round 9 match against the South Coast
Wolves. Last week the team’s results were
as follows - the Suns defeated Sydney
United 58 4-2, at Seymour Shaw Park
for their home match and initial 2015
competition victory. The Wolves lost 0-3
away to APIA in a match marred by heavy
rain with a send off as well.
THE OPPOSITION TODAY – ROCKDALE
CITY SUNS
Rockdale City Suns last season concluded
the season in 5th position on 30 points
having 10 victories and 4 draws with 8
defeats, scoring 26 and conceding 24
goals. The best sequence without loss was
four - win win draw draw from Rounds 4-7.
The worst sequence without winning was
four – draw draw loss draw, Rounds 6-9,
and the worse losing sequence was two,
Rounds 14-15 and 21-22. The top scorer
was Nick Taneski, with 12 to his credit
with eleven different players scoring. Six
games eventuated with Rockdale posting
a nil score.
There were a number goals scored by
Rockdale that were selected for the ‘Goal
Of The Week’, including Tadgh Purcell in
Round 6, Sean Symonds in Rounds 8 and
11, Taneski in Round 13 and Paul Reid in
R19. Taneski scored the quickest goal,
which was in the 2nd minute against South
Coast Wolves in Round 4. The following
players all were selected in ‘Team Of The
Week’ some more than once - Reid (with
3), Taneski, (3) Symons (2), Themba MuataMarlow (2), Steve Hesketh, Askin Oygur,
David Bradesevic and David Talevski.
6
This season Alec Urosevski has returned
while Phil Makrys is a newcomer signed
from Blacktown Spartans, together with
Emmanuel Giannaros also from the
Spartans, Steve Grbevski and David Dascal
from St. George. Branko Culina (coach
for two and a half years) and Rockdale
have parted ways following Rockdale’s
6-2 capitulation to Sutherland Sharks in
Round 7. John Calleja now heads up the
coaching ranks, together with Paul Reid
(Player/coach) and Matt Ribaroski.
A BLAST FROM THE PAST
In the first ever meeting in 1987, five
goals were scored in total. The Wolves’
Pat Brodnik scored after five minutes
then Jock Morlando hit one from the
penalty spot eleven minutes later, after
Bryan Cokely had been brought down. A
Rockdale player Vladimir Tortevski saw
red following his tackle on Jeff Ainsworth.
With ten men on the field Rockdale
succumbed to a third, scored by Randall
Easthorpe. It looked to be plain sailing by
the Wolves but Rockdale had other ideas.
Fifty-six minutes in, sub. Paul Darlington’s
crashing drive reduced the arrears. After a
further six minutes, Pat Rodas scored his
team’s second. However, Rockdale’s run
was a little too late and though they had
their chances they could not grab a draw.
The line-ups were – Rockdale: Ian Barker,
D. Wilson, Jeff Wilson, Michael Boogard,
Vasco Mitrovski, Tortevski, Vince Nastoski,
Pilovski, Bruno Beddoni, Saso Spirovski,
Rodas. Wolves: Warwick Young, David
Skeen, Larry Beringer, Morlando, Robert
Giraldi, Cokely, Ainsworth, Easthorpe,
Brodnik and Rade Stefanovski.

THE MATCH UP
Rockdale and South Coast have met on
13 occasions with the Wolves having the
most victories 8 to 4, and also having
scored more goals, 22 to 12. The Wolves
have two games without scoring as
opposed to Rockdales’ 4. For the last five
meetings, it has been loss draw loss win
loss from Rockdale’s perspective with the
club’s best score being 2-1 in 2004/05 and
again in 2010, with the Wolves’ best was
4-1 in 2011. There has been only one draw
between the two sides.
Last season, honours were shared with
one home win apiece. The Suns won 1-0
and the Wolves had a 3-1 victory. The Suns’
scorers were Taneski then Hesketh while
South Coasts were by James Baldacchino,
Jordan Murray and Lachlan Reus.
Suns have one win and two draws and the
Wolves have one and three.
Both teams are through to the next round
of the FFA Cup following the 2-0 and
10-1 wins against Mens 2 team, Sydney
University and Bankstown Association
team, Yagoona Lions respectively.
With Rockdale getting their first scalp of
the season against strong opposition,
replicating the Wolves in their Round 7
game, both teams have all in front of them
to garner a second victory. With games in
the Premier League showing a few shock
results of late, with form being thrown
out of the window, in this encounter the
Wolves will need to be in fine mettle to
block out the Suns and the Suns will hope
to fire again to get the three points.
By Malcolm Rowney
The top scorer for each club at this stage
of the competition is Peter Simonoski
(Wolves) and Marco Jesic (Suns) on
three and five goals respectively. Seven
Rockdale players have got onto the score
sheet while the Wolves have five who have
goaled.
The corresponding records for the last five
league games from the earliest that the
teams have played are Rockdale – Draw
Loss Draw Loss Win and Wolves – Loss
Draw Draw Win Loss
So far this season, six of Rockdale’s nine
goals have been scored within the second
half while the Wolves have scored four in
each half. Rockdale and the Wolves currently lie in
10th and 9th positions respectively. The

the Wolves on top by 2-0. An own goal
in the 14th minute put the away team in
the lead before a Ben Zucco effort eight
minutes later sent his team on their way
to victory and to get off the league cellar
position. On receiving a defence splitting
pass from Chris Price, Zucco moved
forward as the opposition goalkeeper
advanced. Zucco kept cool and slotted
the ball into the goal. ‘It was a bit nerve
wracking.’ Coach Nahuel Arrarte stated

the three points but we did not play to
the best of our abilities…… This is another
step the right direction’. Daniel Collison,
