Baptismal preparation classes are offered on the 2nd
Sunday of the month. Parents are encouraged to attend the
10:30 AM mass on the 2nd Sunday and the preparation
class will follow the mass in the Rectory. All couples
seeking to baptize a child must attend the class. Baptisms
are preformed on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month

Dear Friends:
As we celebrate Passion Sunday (Palm Sunday), we begin what is the holiest and certainly the most important days in
the Church calendar.
Christmas is a joyous and wonderful time in celebrating the birth of the promised Messiah. But Holy Week focuses us
on what the Christ did out of love for God's people. So on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and in our Easter celebrations,
we come to understand the depth of His love and sacrifice for you and me personally.
The Church will have a fuller crowd than usual this week. And they are VERY welcome. Some come from far away to
be with their families during the Easter holiday. Others come because their Catholic identity is expressed through their
presence at major Catholic holidays.
And the week after Easter, those numbers will likely diminish again.
At Our Lady of Lourdes, we want to bring the occasional visitor back more frequently. And we especially want to invite
back the Catholic Christian in our neighborhood who almost never comes to church.
So on the weekend of May 7th and 8th, I'll be celebrating two special Masses on invitation and welcome. At the 5 p.m.
on Saturday, May 7th and at the 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 8th, the Masses will be dedicated to welcoming those who
have been apart from the church for any reason. The choir will be singing at both Masses. My homily will be focused
on 'Coming Home' to a community that loves and respects and needs each and every Catholic in our community to be
made truly welcome in our parish family. We'll be distributing copies of two terrific books to all who attend. Both by
the gifted writer Matthew Kelly. One is called Rediscovering Catholicism, the other is titled Rediscovering Jesus Christ.
After both Masses, refreshments will be served in the Parish Auditorium.
I mention this 'Coming Home' weekend to enlist your help. Every one of us knows family members, neighbors, coworkers and friends who have stopped going to Church. The reasons are as unique as the individual person. But every
person can at least be invited to 'think again' about the possibility that there is value in active and practiced worship.
And every study indicates that there is no more powerful invitation than one personally made. So I ask that YOU consider inviting family or friend who is away from the church back to spend time with us at Mass on May 7th or 8th.

talent in crocheting and knitting beautiful blankets for seriously ill children is nothing less than a beautiful thing!
Since our group began in November 2009, the completed
blanket count stands at 1,828 I’m sure in no time at all we
will be adding to this amazing number. Thank you to our
lovely group of ladies for all the good work you do to bring
love and comfort to many children undergoing cancer care.

Bioethicist Wesley J Smith reported on his blog, Human Exceptionalism on March 9th that adult stem cells have
cured blindness and may provide a splendid treatment for cataracts. "The Telegraph reported: Cataracts can be
cured by using a patient’s own stem cells to regrow a ‘living lens’ in their eye, restoring sight in just three months, scientists have shown. In research described as ‘remarkable,’ surgeons reversed blindness in 12 infants born with congenital cataracts by removing the damaged lens and coaxing nearby cells to repair the damage. “An ultimate goal of stem
cell research is to turn on the regenerative potential of one’s own stem cells for tissue and organ repair and disease therapy,” said Dr Kang Zhang, chief of Ophthalmic Genetics and founding director of the Institute for Genomic Medicine
at UC San Diego School of Medicine. “The success of this work represents a new approach in how new human tissue
or organ can be regenerated and human disease can be treated, and may have a broad impact on regenerative therapies
by harnessing the regenerative power of our own body." Smith noted that 10 years ago, that was the very kind of assertion that led many in media, politics, and Big Biotech to brand embryonic stem cell opponents 'anti-science' for predicting that with adult stem cells, this very scenario would occur."

strings attached, demands for accountability and transparency. Top UN officials and others would like for the UN to
have its own money, its own revenue stream precisely so their budgets will not be beholden to democratic bodies to
whom they must be accountable. Enter the Tobin Tax, a tax on international financial transactions, that would become
an independent revenue stream of billions of dollars for the UN. UN bureaucrats say the revenue would go to humanitarian causes. But already UN officials, including the Secretary General, say that abortion is a humanitarian issue. The
head of the UN Human Rights Office recently said abortion must be made legal for medical reasons in the context of
the Zika epidemic...A Tobin Tax was on the agenda for the World Humanitarian Summit set to meet this May in Istanbul. What's more, we recently discovered that the Tobin Tax was part of the 'indicators' of the Sustainable Development Goals, the most important development document in UN history. In 2011 the UN Development Program argued
for a Tobin Tax in its annual Human Development Report. The Tobin Tax is real. It is a threat. And we as an institution
have determined to alert our friends around the world and to organize opposition to this dangerous idea." To find out

Service to encourage parents considering aborting their disabled unborn children to carry them to term so their
parts can be harvested. While proponents say the harvesting won't happen until the baby is dead, that would mean
'brain-dead', raising the prospect of other bodily functions being intentionally terminated at the optimum moment for
removal of organs. The practice has generated strong criticism from ethicists, and though pro-life advocates appreciate
that officials would encourage parents to carry their children to term, they are criticizing the underlying idea that reduces babies to spare parts. Dr. Anthony McCarthy, a bioethicist and the education director of the London-based Society for the Protection of Unborn Children stated, "Babies should be spared abortion because they are babies, not because they are useful to others if taken to term."

Holy Week: The First Four Days
We enter into a week made “holy” forever by the self
surrendering love of Jesus - for us all.
All week, we remember how he loved us. Whatever we
do, no matter how busy or “distracted” we might be, we
can let the power of this week be in the background of
our daily reflections. He entered into our life - with its
profound joys and its punishing evils - that we might
never experience those struggles alone. So no matter
what we experience this week, we can let it become a
“holy” week, letting it all be touched by the graces of
this week.
From the humble, yet triumphant, entry into Jerusalem,
to our standing together at the foot of his cross, this can
be a week which helps us bring all of the elements of
our lives, all our experiences of sin and death, into the
font of his redeeming, liberating death resurrection.
