James J. Byrnes Awards for Excellence
An annual program that recognizes outstanding volunteers in Tompkins County has been
renamed to honor James J. Byrnes, retired Chairman and CEO of Tompkins Financial
Corporation. The James J. Byrnes Awards for Excellence will be presented on May 18 in
Tompkins Trust Company’s Main Office lobby.
Award winners have generously volunteered their time and efforts on an ongoing basis
through activities that help others in Tompkins County. They have made a significant
contribution toward improving the quality of life for others either as a major force of a nonContinued on page 4
profit organization or through individual efforts.
The sixth annual Shred Day sponsored by Tompkins Trust Company is from 9 am
to noon on Saturday, April 26, at our East Hill Plaza Branch. All paper must
be clean, dry and ready to shred, and free from spiral binders. Please limit your
recyclables to six boxes. This service is open to households only; no commercial
businesses please. In 2014, we shredded and recycled nearly nine tons of documents,
helping to protect participants from identity thieves and saving 149 trees, 17 barrels of
oil, 61,201 gallons of water and 26 cubic yards of landfill.

Tompkins Trust Company was proud to sponsor the

Downtown Ithaca. Thousands of people ventured
to the Commons to taste more than 40 different
unique chili recipes created by the restaurants and
local organizations of the community. The Trust
Company believes in supporting events that bring
our community together – especially one that
brought some warmth during a frigid winter!

“Jim Byrnes was deeply involved in community organizations, so it is fitting that this program be renamed
in his honor,” said Steve Romaine, President and CEO of Tompkins Financial. “He remains active even in
retirement. He sets a high standard that we all should seek to emulate.”
This year’s deadline for nominating candidates has passed, but if you are interested in nominating someone or a group of
people for next year’s awards, please contact Greg Acquavella in our marketing department. You can reach him by phone at

*Equilock is a variable rate line of credit with a fixed-rate lock option. An introductory 2.24% Annual Percentage Rate (APR) will be in effect for six months after opening the line.
Following the introductory period, the APR will become the highest Prime Rate quoted in the Wall Street Journal on the first day of the month (3.25% APR as of 3/15/15.) The lowest rate
will be 3.25% APR and the highest will be 14.99% APR. The variable rate line is subject to credit approval and appraisal, with draw and repayment periods of 10 years with no annual fee.
Line requires auto payment from a Tompkins Trust Company checking account. If a fixed rate option is selected, the maximum fixed rate term is 180 months, but cannot exceed maturity
date of the line of credit. Minimum fixed rate term is 12 months. Minimum fixed rate amount is $5,000. Maximum fixed loan amount is the full balance of the line of credit. There is a
$50 fee to lock or unlock any portion of the line of credit. Maximum number of fixed rate loan locks is six. If opted, the fixed APR will be based on the lesser of either the bank’s current
fixed home equity loan rate (4.50% APR for up to 60 months as of 3/15/15) or the current fixed Equilock rate (prime rate + 6% for 60 months; prime + 8% for 120 months; prime + 10%
for 180 months.) Property insurance required. Flood insurance may be required. If you close the line within 36 months, you must reimburse us for third-party fees paid in connection
with opening the line. These fees are estimated at $1,450 for a $100,000 loan. Mortgage tax must be paid by the borrower for loans over $250,000. Consult your tax advisor about
deductibility of interest. Terms and conditions subject to change without notice. Loans subject to credit approval.
