EXPOSURES 101
ISO, Shutter Speed, & Aperture
Cost: $69/person
Length: 2 hours
Suggested Prerequisite: Camera Specific Class
In this two hour session we will be discussing the fundamentals of exposure:
Shutter speed, aperture and ISO. Those three features of your camera are
what make the picture look the way it does. Understanding how and when to
use them is a huge advantage. This class takes a deeper look into Program,
Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual modes. Using these modes, you
can explore the creative side of your camera while also gaining a lot of control
over your DSLR. Start telling your camera what to do instead of hoping it does
what you want.

EXPOSURES 201
Cost: $69/person
Length: 2 hours
Suggested Prerequisite: Exp. 101
Picking up from where 101 left off, we take
an in-depth look at how shutter speed,
aperture and ISO effect various photographic
situations. We break down difficult situations
to shoot and how to use your exposure
compensation controls to get the picture you
want. We will also talk about ‘stops’ of light
and how you can have equivalent exposures
to a scene. We explain why shooting in
Manual Mode may be the best option for
some situations. Other topics will include
how shutter speed affects flash, bracketing,
metering modes and locking your exposure.

EXPOSURES 301
Cost: $69/person
Length: 2 hours
Sug. Prerequisite: Exp. 101 & 201
In this hands on-class, we will continue to
explore the options available to you for controlling
your exposures. When do we want to shoot
in Aperture Mode? Shutter Priority? Why does
setting your ISO, shutter speed and aperture
manually give you the most creative control over
most photo situations? We will experiment with
the different modes by taking some photos in
the class and outside. Using your speedlight/
flash, we will explore how to balance your flash
exposure with the overall scene indoors and
outside. The instructor will give you advise and
critique of those photos as you shoot. This is a
valuable class to attend for anyone wanting to
master creative exposure techniques and to take
their images to the next level. Make sure to bring
your camera, lenses, flash and tripod with you.

Length: 2 hours
Suggested Prerequisite: Exposures 101
In this two hour hands-on class, we will explore the options available to you for
controlling the shutter speed settings on your camera. Understanding the shutter
speed you would use for different situations is one of the most important concepts
you will want to know to get those consistent great action photos. Why does
changing your ISO affect the shutter speeds you can use? We will experiment with
panning your camera to stop action and create blur by taking some photos outside
the classroom and taking some photos in the classroom with studio lighting. The
instructor will advise you and critique your photos as you shoot. This is a perfect
class to attend for anyone wanting to learn how to use shutter speed techniques
to take their images to the next level. And because this is a hands-on class, make

topics will include composition, depth of field,

range of tones in your image is difficult with a
digital camera. We will introduce you to HDR
photography, which allows you to combine multiple
images to make use of the full tonal range in the
shadows, mid tones and highlights. We will discuss
all of the ways to get the best macro photographs
including different lens choices, focusing,
composition, and other topics involved with macro

In our second two-hour class we will process files showing you how to make
several “versions” of the same file to explore your creative possibilities and how
to selectively edit certain areas/tones/colors of your file (bring in a few of your
