challenges. Our goal is always to do what is in the best interest of your
children, using our education, our experiences and our spirit. Many thanks
to the entire Auction Committee and to all of our parents who have worked
hard to make this evening a great success. The spirit of volunteerism is
unique to our preschool. This event also brings the school and church
community together for an entertaining evening. Eat!! Drink!! Laugh!!
Meet new people!! Have fun!! Thank you for supporting the education of

Dear HCEP Parents, Staff, Holy Comforter Parishioners and Guests,
As Chair of the Holy Comforter Episcopal Preschool Board of Directors, I welcome you
to the 2013 Auction and Dinner, “Boots and Barbecue.”
Each year, the parents,
teachers, staff and other supporters of Holy Comforter Episcopal Preschool (HCEP)
gather for this evening of fun and fundraising. The money raised each year provides
for music, science, and speech and language instruction to our students and facilitates
many improvements to the school facility itself.
In years past, some of the
improvements have included renovated bathrooms, the building of a dedicated teacher
workroom, replacing of all the classroom furniture and the installation of sinks in all of
the classrooms on the lower level.
This auction would not be possible without the work of so many people. First of all, our
Auction Chairpersons, Tinelle Davies and Kelly Rodgers, have worked tirelessly for
months to organize and coordinate this evening. They have led a wonderful team
composed of the people who made up the Auction Committees. So many people
worked to put together all of the aspects of this evening, thank you to every single
person.
We also thank all the parents, staff, local businesses and friends who
generously donated to the auction. This auction and those that have preceded it would
not have been possible without the support, encouragement and efforts of our Director,
Sue Gosline and the office staff, and the teachers. We cannot thank you enough.
To everyone present, thank you. This school serves as a second home to each of the
small individuals that come through its doors each year.
The love of school and
learning is an immeasurable gift that is given to the children that attend HCEP. The
auction and everyone’s contributions are part of that gift.
Have a great evening and enjoy the festivities.
Sincerely,
Kerry Blankenship

Cash Donations
The auction committee would like to thank the HCEP families, staff
and church members who donated cash or supplies for the auction. Their
generosity has offset some of the expenses associated with hosting such a
large event and enabled our school to realize an even larger portion of the
proceeds. We were also able to create a few extra fun offerings with some
of the extra cash!

General Auction Rules
Upon arrival, every guest will check in at the Registration Table.
1. The auction will begin at 7:00 P.M. and end in stages. Please refer to the
Schedule of Events listed in this catalog to determine when each table will close.
(The Schedule of Events can be found on page 10.)
2. The “Live Auction” of a select set of items will be at 9:15 P.M. It will continue
until all items have been auctioned. The auctioneer will state an opening bid
determined by the committee. To compete for an item, the bidder must hold up
the bid paddle and announce the bid price to the auctioneer. The highest bidder
acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the purchaser. In the event of any
dispute between bidders, the auctioneer shall have sole and final discretion to
determine the successful bidder. No bid, once made, can be withdrawn. The
winning bidder will immediately sign the bid sheet listing name, bid number, and
the amount of the winning bid.
3. All sales are FINAL! There will be no exchanges or refunds. Everything will be
sold AS IS. Please pay attention to any and all restrictions before bidding on an
item.
4. Values indicated for any item are only estimates and are not warranted by the
committee or HCEP for tax purposes of general value. These estimated values
are intended ONLY to assist guests in placing their bids.
5. Upon purchase, the winner waives any claims of liability against either HCEP or
the donor. Neither is responsible for any personal injury or damages that may
result from the use of property or the services sold.
6. All auction items and gift certificates must be paid for in full (cash or check) the
night of the auction. Payments must be made by cash or check at the Check-Out
Table, which will open at 9:00 p.m.
7. Upon payment, winners will claim all items at the auction tables. Any gift
certificates will be placed in a box and given to the winner after he/she presents
a valid invoice to the auction staff member in charge of dispensing gift
certificates.
8. All proceeds benefit Holy Comforter Episcopal Preschool.
7
Bidding Rules
1.
Only registered bidders with bid numbers may place bids. Any bids placed by
unregistered bidders without bid numbers will be deemed invalid.
2.
A bid sheet will accompany each item. The bid sheet will state the name of the
item, the name of the donor, an approximate value of the item, an opening
(minimum) bid amount and a minimum raise amount.
3.
The bidder is to use the bid sheet to record his/her bids. Bids must start at the
minimum amount or higher and must be raised by at least the minimum raise
amount.
4.
Guests may bid as often as they wish on each item until bidding is closed on that
item. Guests must record new bids on the line under the current bid. DO NOT
cross out your previous bid and put in a new amount, as this will constitute an
invalid bid.
5.
All bidders must be at least 18 years of age.
6.
The silent auction committee reserves the right to keep bidding open, lower the
minimum bid or return a donated item if the original minimum bid on that item is
not received by a table’s closing time.
7.
Announcements will be made when individual tables of items are accepting final
bids. Another announcement will be made once tables are no longer accepting
final bids. Any bids placed after the closing announcement will be invalid.
8.
Table Runners are utilized to ensure that bid sheets are picked up immediately
after the closing announcement is made. Table Runners reserve the right to
cancel any bids made after the closing announcement.
9.
The highest bidder shall be responsible for purchasing the item. If the high bid is
deemed to be invalid, the items will then be awarded to the next highest bidder
with a valid bid.
10. “Live Auction” items may only be bid upon by registered bidders verbally and/or
with a raised paddle. When the auctioneer closes the item, the winner will be
confirmed verbally with the bidder number and bid price then will be asked to
sign the bid sheet indicating the same confirming information.
8
Auction Absentee Bidding
We are excited to once again offer Absentee Bidding on certain items in our auction
catalog. Even if you can’t attend the Auction, you can still bid on Silent Auction items.
Absentee Bidding Instructions:
1. Absentee bids will be accepted on Silent Auction items only.
2. Completed Absentee Bid Form (see Catalog Appendix A) must be received in Sue
Gosline’s office by 3:00 pm on Thursday, April 18, 2013.
3. A bid number will be assigned by the Auction Committee Co-Chairs.
4. Absentee bids will be entered one time during the silent auction in the amount
you indicate on the Auction Bid Sheets. We will not enter an amount any
higher than you indicate, so write down the highest amount you agree to pay
as the winner.
5. Payment for an absentee bid purchase is due in full within seven (7) days of your
being notified that you are the winning bidder.
6. If you are the winning bidder, you must pick up tangible items from HCEP by
April 29, 2013. Payment must be made before claiming items.
7. All Auction rules apply to the absentee bids.

HCEP GAME
RACE TO THE RODEO…
FOR SOME ICE CREAM!
And PIZZA?
Bring your imagination to this year’s HCEP games and cheer on your child’s class as
you take part in the most competitive event of the night. Get into the action and Race
to the Rodeo with your child’s class.
Every $10 donation gives you a chance take a 25% share of all donations at the end of
the night and sends your child’s class closer to an Ice Cream Social. A drawing will be
held to determine the winner - the one who will take home the haul! The other 75% of
the donations will go to HCEP. Every class that meets or exceeds the $100 goal to get
to the Rodeo will receive an ice cream social! But don’t stop there, the class earning
the most money will receive a Pizza Party in addition to the Ice Cream Social!
How to Play:
Go to the Rodeo game board and locate your child’s class horse. Give your donation to
the game-runner and your child’s class horse will move closer to the Rodeo! Each $10
donation will move your child’s class horse one spot. When a horse gets to the Rodeo,
that class wins an Ice Cream Social. But keep donating, because only the one class
raising the most money will get a Pizza Party too!

HCEP GAME
HEADS ... Or TAILS?
Play this fun, new game for a chance to win a brand new iPad Mini* worth over $300!
Your purchase of this game ticket for $10 entitles you to play this year’s “Heads or Tails”
game. The game will begin at approximately 9:15pm - before the Live Auction - and will
be led by our auctioneer. You must be present to win.
How to Play:
All participants will gather near the stage as directed by the auctioneer. Before each flip
of the coin, all participants will predict which side of the coin will land face up by standing
in the room and signaling heads or tails with your game card. If your prediction is wrong,
you must be seated or back away from the play area and your game ends. If you are
correct, you may continue to play by making another prediction for the next coin toss.
Once the number of players is reduced to a handful, the auctioneer will ask the remaining
participants to join him on stage for the final rounds of play until there is a winner.

FUND-A-NEED
Playground Improvements
Join us in another exciting new addition to the HCEP Auction. This year we are
proud to introduce the Fund-a-Need Program. The Auction Committee is seeking to
raise money to fund playground improvements. Playground time is an essential and
exciting part of the preschool day. From ongoing maintenance to acquiring new
equipment, there are always improvements we can make to the HCEP playground.
You can support these improvements by bidding as often as you like, at any level
you choose: $50, $100, $250, $500 and $1,000.
The Auctioneer will start by asking for donations at the $50 level. You can choose
to raise your paddle at this starting bid of $50, or wait and raise at any subsequent
level. If you raise your paddle at more than one levels, your contribution will be
the sum of the two levels. For example, if you raise your paddle at $50 and again
at $100, your total contribution will be $150 = $50 + $100. All contributions to the
Fund-a-Need program are 100% tax deductible.
Thank you very much for your participation and support!

Live Auction
9:15 PM
The HCEP Auction Committee is excited to offer the eighth annual Live Auction tonight. A live emcee
will guide you through the bidding process in which you will use your voice and raised paddle to bid for
auction items. Bid paddles have been distributed with the packets and will be the same number as your
bid number.
The Live Auction continues until each of the items has received its highest bid price. Enjoy the festivities
and bidding competition!

Learn to Take Beautiful Photographs!
Do you have a digital SLR, but only know how to use it on the "Auto" setting? Get
a group of up to five together and join me for an afternoon of learning to take
beautiful pictures with your digital SLR. We'll learn what the A, S, and P modes
mean, what depth of field means, and how to pick which lens is best for your
subject. I'll teach you how to get those nice blurry backgrounds with twinkling
eyes you see in professional photographs! We'll spend about an hour and a half
at my house having an interactive lesson in using your camera, then we'll head
outside (weather permitting) and try out our new skills. Each mom should feel
free to bring one of your kids with you to my house - they can play with my kids
in the basement - and then we can use our own kids as models as we practice
what we've learned. Each participant will also get a copy of "Understanding
Exposure" by Bryan Peterson, a photographer's bible.
