Healthy living starts with us. As citizens it is
important that we dispose of our garbage
responsibly so as to ensure the best quality of
life for our neighbours and ourselves. This can
be achieved through small actions such as disposing of our garbage by placing it only in bins
designed for that purpose. We should not throw
garbage around the bins or into our watercourses as this is a major contributor to flooding. We
should adjust our disposal schedules so that it
matches collection days thus enabling for the
timely removal of garbage. Let us all take simple
actions to create the positive outcome of a
cleaner and healthier Diego Martin. Let us all
make the Diego Martin Region the best place to
live.

gency, the Diego Martin Regional Corporation embarked on a Regional
Cleanup Campaign to eliminate potential breeding sites for the aedes
aegypti mosquito. To this end, the Corporation launched several initiatives
to clean the Region in order to combat the spread of mosquito viruses.
The Cleanup Campaign included cleaning and clearing of empty lots,
cleaning of drain, collection of bulk waste and tyres and an education
drive.
The programme commenced on Thursday 4th February, 2016. The main
objectives of the exercise were to stress the importance of source reduction, elevate residents consciousness of their environment and eliminate
the breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The Regional Corporation hopes
residents will join the active battle against the spread of the Zika Virus.
“The Diego Martin Regional Corporation plays a critical role and it is
imperative we conduct these exercises to ensure the safety of our Region
against mosquito bourne viruses.” Chairman, Councillor Katty Christopher. All equipment from the Diego Martin Regional Corporation was deployed to assist with the cleanup efforts. During the period 10th to 20th
