Summer 2015 - USU Credit Union
Summer 2015
RETURNING TO CAMPUS
In April, we announced our plans to build a new Welcome Center facility on the campus
of Utah State University. While the official name of the building has yet to be determined,
the 13,000 square foot building will include a USU Credit Union branch office to serve our
faculty, staff, visitors, and student members on the campus of Utah State University. Our
vision for this branch is to bring the functionality of high-tech along with the full service
and personal attention our members appreciate.
We could not be more excited about this project. It represents a return of the Credit Union
to our origins on the campus of Utah State University. USU Credit Union was literally
born in the halls of Utah State University in 1957 and operated for a time in a small office
in Old Main and on campus until 1976. Now, after almost 40 years, we will be returning
to campus, allowing us to more fully honor the original vision of Credit Union founders,
Vernon Israelson and Evan Murray.
We think this is a win-win-win. It is a win for our members who live and work on campus, bringing a full array of
affordable Credit Union services closer to them. It is a win for the Credit Union itself as we secure a long-term
campus residence to grow our membership among new students, faculty, and staff.
Finally, it is a win for the University as they gain a new home for Alumni and Advancement operations, along with
a Welcome Center that will welcome alumni and new and prospective students to campus. Such a facility where
visitors can be greeted and learn about our history and unique value is long overdue and much deserved for our
Logan campus. We intend to design and equip the Welcome Center to be multi-functional and welcoming for
campus groups and visitors alike.
University administration has been innovative and forward-thinking in putting this together. We are grateful to
be working with such a bright and talented team. Additionally, this project could not have happened without
the vision of Kerry Wahlen, Goldenwest CEO, and our strategic partnership with Goldenwest Credit Union. We
are working on several other innovative products and services to serve you and our entire USU Community. Our
future has never been more bright.
Construction on the Welcome Center will begin this summer and completion scheduled for the spring of 2016.

THE RIGHT INCOME PLAN FOR YOUR RETIREMENT
Content developed by CUNA Brokerage Services, provided by Tyler Holbrook & Ryan Gorham
For many Americans, their retirement plan is primarily
focused on saving and growing as much income as
possible by the time they retire. Ask them about their
plans once they retire and you will hear dreams of travel,
family, or their “next” career. However, you seldom hear
about their retirement income plan.
It is important to build a retirement income plan that will
allow you to turn your many years of savings into a reliable
and sustainable paycheck throughout your retirement.
There are several factors to consider when building your
retirement income plan:
Choose the Right Age to Start Taking Your Social
Security Income
It is important to ensure that you are maximizing your
Social Security benefit by choosing the right age to
start your benefits based on your employment, health,
and income needs.
Diversify Your Taxes
The three most common tax treatments are; taxable, tax
deferred and tax free accounts. Since tax laws and rates
are likely to change during retirement, it can be prudent
to establish multiple retirement income sources with
varied tax treatments.
Determine a Realistic Withdrawal Rate
One of the key questions that you need to ask yourself
is “How much can I take from my retirement accounts?”
As a general rule, you can withdraw 3% to 5% every year
without undue concerns about running out of money.*
Take Advantage of New Resources
As millions of baby boomers begin to enter retirement,
there are more resources than ever before to help
you build your retirement income plan. To better
understand and evaluate these resources, contact
your Financial Advisor. Together, you can develop
a retirement income strategy that can support all of
your retirement goals and dreams.
