Greetings!
Welcome to the Chow Down Pet Supplies November eNewsletter! Thank you for
subscribing to our mailing list and for staying connected with us.
If you missed our post on Facebook, we wanted to let all of our Evergreen friends
know that our long-time companion and resident cat,
Othello crossed the Rainbow Bridge in October. He
passed peacefully, surrounded by those who loved him.
We will all miss him dearly.
THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our HOWLO-WEEN Hustle and Pumpkin Patch Contest in Grand
Junction and Montrose! Both events were a success and
we appreciate all your support! Check out some photos
from these events below, in our 'Pets of the Month.'
November is a very important month for bringing awareness to black dogs and
cats needing forever homes. Please check out our article below and support Back in
Black.
The holidays are coming! Did you know that Chow Down
Pet Supplies offers gift certificates? A gift certificate
would make a great holiday present for your fur loving
friends and family! Or even a great present for your pet!
Why not let them stop by and pick out their next toy or
treat?
Please continue to follow us on our Facebook page for
updates and reminders about our events and promotions
for all five of our store locations. Don't forget to post pictures of your furbabies,
we love to see your pets!
Thank you for being part of our Chow Down family!

Spotlights
Back in Black is a national campaign sponsored by Best
Friends Animal Sanctuary and is supported by rescues and
shelters across the United States. This campaign is dedicated
to finding forever homes for black dogs and cats, an

unfortunate group of less-adoptable animals. "In a recent
survey, Petfinder member shelter and rescue groups reported
that most pets are listed for 12.5 weeks on Petfinder,
whereas, less-adoptable pets (such as black, senior, and
FOSTER HOME
special needs pets) spend almost four times as long on URGENTLY NEEDED!
Rico, one-year-old
Petfinder."
November is the month to create awareness that black pets
are just as desirable as their lighter-colored kennel mates.
Also known as Black Dog Syndrome (BDS), this may be the
result of unclear facial features, dimly lit kennels,
"genericness" of black pets and the negative portrayals
throughout history and in popular media of black animals.
Now is the time to not overlook these pets! It's important to
pay attention more to personality and whether or not a pet is
the right fit for your family, and pay less attention to colorful
coats. Throughout November, rescues and shelters will host
adoption events showcasing their loveable black pets and
many also provide a 50% discount on all black pet adoption
fees.
Aussie Mix is such a
beautiful and loving
puppy. Rico is afraid of
everything he doesn't
know. He is very
smart, super food
motivated and learns
quickly which helps with
his training but he will
need a patient and
experienced foster or
forever home. Check
sweet Rico in action by

above. For more
information click here.
What you can do to support the Back in Black Campaign from
Petfinder.com:
Encourage friends to look past their first impressions of
a black pet.
Tell people about BDS! It's generally an unconscious
prejudice and most people will move past it once
Tabitha was rescued
they're aware.
Remind people that their parents were right: personality from a neglectful
is more important than appearance. It's just as true for situation and REALLY
NEEDS A LOVING
pets as for people!
Click here to learn more about Back in Black.
Please also take the time to visit the Animal Rescue of the
Rockies website, a rescue we support, to browse their
adoptable pets. For the month of November you can adopt a
black dog or cat for ½ off their regular adoption fee. Click
here for more details.
