before the ring. The road that led Sara Sedgwick and Jason Brown
down the aisle was paved with hometown connections, Patriots games,
and the romantic allure of San Francisco. The couple grew up in Newton,
Massachusetts, where Sara played high school soccer with Jason’s sister.
However, they didn’t meet until years later while both were living in San
Francisco. Jason had lived in the Bay area for five months when Sara arrived.
His sister suggested they meet up since Sara was new to the city. Hoping to
show his sister’s old friend some fun, Jason invited Sara to watch a Patriots
game at a bar, and the rest is history.
the proposal. Ever the industrious planner, Jason crafted an elaborate
scheme to pop the question months before he actually got down on one
knee. After securing the blessing of Sara’s parents—and secretly convincing
Sara’s boss to give her a week off after Valentine’s Day—Jason set to work
creating a wildly romantic proposal. He filled their apartment with roses,
champagne, and instructions telling Sara to pack for a vacation. “As I entered
the apartment I couldn’t contain my excitement and immediately got down
on one knee,” Jason says. After Sara’s overwhelming “yes,” Jason whipped
out two tickets to Rome, and the couple spent the next week enjoying the
beauty of Italy.
the wedding weekend. Sara and Jason picked Chappaquiddick (or
“Chappy,” to the locals) for the wedding because they wanted a place for
where their loved ones from around the globe would be able to come together
and enjoy a relaxing weekend. “We were living in San Francisco and knew
that we wanted to get married back ‘home,’ where both our families were still
living. We also wanted to pick a place that could help everyone escape from
the insanity of daily life and relax—together,” the couple says. They set the
mood for fun by greeting guests at the ceremony with flip-flops for the beach
and a festive glass of bubbly.
the day & design. The laid-back couple opted for soothing blue
shades as the basis for their wedding day color palette. They wanted to let
the breathtaking scenery of Martha’s Vineyard take center stage, so they set
the tone with simple, elegant accents. Demonstrating their knack for style,
the California-based couple included sleek aviator sunglasses at every place
setting. Aside from chic eyewear, Sara and Jason’s tables were also topped
with vintage flower boxes, and playful chalkboard signs sporting seating
assignments. “We think we succeeded in creating a warm environment that
was formal, but not stiff,” the couple says.

“IT WAS INCREDIBLE TO HAVE OUR OWN LITTLE PIECE OF THE
