Ss. Pontian and Hippolytus; Blessed Virgin Mary
The Letter to the Hebrews today sings a hymn of praise to Abraham and to his faith,
upon which are founded the religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Abraham is
called “father” in faith by more people on earth than anybody else, numerous as the
sands of the seashore or the stars of the heavens. Hebrews tells us it was this foundational faith that led Abraham to obey God’s call when he heard it, though he was
called to journey to a land he did not know and told he would father a mighty race
through a marriage he thought was barren. But Abraham’s faith, the author of Hebrews tells us, was his realization of what he hoped for, and the evidence of what he
could not see. How often are we, in simple daily events of our own Christian vocation, called to an unfamiliar place or told we are to do something we do not believe
we can? How fortunate we are to have Father Abraham as our guide and example!
Our Family Prayer
Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have
appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask
you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism.
We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded
on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless
parents that they may form their children in faith.
Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give
consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence.
Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human
dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for
us that we may be a holy family. Amen.

Franciscan Sisters of St. Bernadette,
Tanzania Appeal: August 13 & 14
CYO Kick Off Meetings
The congregation is raising funds to establish an education
fund for our orphans. The money obtained from this appeal
will be used for the sole purpose of supporting these unfortunate children who have lost their parents due to war, death of
their mothers during birth and the devastating disease HIV/
AIDS, so that they may go to school in order for them to have a
better future. We are working with serious issues so that we
may help these orpahns to improve their life through education
and good loving care which they miss from not having parents.
Sr. Fidelis Gaudiosa will speak at all Masses the weekend of
August 13 and 14.
Parish School of Religion: August 14
The Parish School of Religion will begin classes on August 14th.
Students will report to the school building and parents will
report to the Melancon Center for a parent meeting. We are
still in need of volunteers in the classrooms. Students needing
service hours are also encouraged to sign up to help. Classes
meet on Sunday mornings from 10:00am to 11:00am during the
school year. For more information or to register a new student, contact Michelle Alley, Director of Religious Education
([email protected]).

Childcare Ministry
Beginning in the Fall, we will begin offering childcare for infants and toddlers during the 9:00 am and 11:00 am Masses.

basis. Students needing service hours are also encouraged to
volunteer. If you are interested in helping or if you have items
to donate to the facility (pack and play, rockers, toys, etc.),

Journey with a diverse group of women as they discuss real
issues that moms face every day. This fall Familia presents
Momnipotent, a video series and discussion that validates the
dignity and importance of motherhood. It will help you recognize your unique feminine strengths and see how you can use
those strengths to find peace, balance, and joy in being the
woman God created and called you to be. See a representative in the back of Church this weekend to sign up or for additional information.

Capital Punishment/Mercy Behind Bars:
August 20
The August Respect Life topic focus is on Capital Punishment/
Mercy Behind Bars. One of the corporal works of mercy we
are undertaking requires some advanced planning. On Saturday, August 20, 2016, anyone interested is invited to join us
on the bus to Dixon Prison, traveling with the family members
of those who are incarcerated there. On the rides to and from
the prison, we will be visiting with the family members themselves, who make this very difficult journey when the bus is
able to take them. While they are making their two hour visit
with their incarcerated loved ones, we will spend time in
prayer. They need our support and love. In order to participate, please email your name and phone number to the Respect Life Office at [email protected] by August 11,
2016.

With professional instruction, Natural Family Planning has
proven itself to be safe, effective, and a moral way for couples to plan their families. It is a method which respoects the
meaning of human sexuality as God created it and thus marital
love is enhanced and strengthened.
